The glass shattered because of a rock. He was using the weed eater in the back yard!
You need a patio roof above those glass doors to protect against the sun
I was wondering if that unit above the glass door was ac. Hot sun, ac and a tiny leak could cause the failure too.

If that is the stationary half of the slider you may want to check to see if the jam is twisted--that would put more pressure on that glass during heat and cooling cycles !! Something is not right !!

I used the Henry coating on my mobile home and stains will show through the first coat . I have 3 good thick coats on my roof because of a leak I could not find . My wife and I really

It definitely doesn't stay perfectly white but nobody's looking at our roof besides me anyways lol

a little tip i learnt not so long ago, when painting hot roofs in bright sun light, cover the surface with a cammo net, uncover what you need to paint and keep moving the net back until everything is covered, cammo nets work real well, so when the weather is too hot, cover the roof and this will work also to regulate the heat inside the container

Rocks aside (of course stuff happens!), we had one that kept getting cracks and a glass installer recommended we have the glass tinted. We called a friend, he came out and he installed tinting abd that took care of everything . Yiu did a treat job!
You both are such a joy to watch and I would say you are most definitely in the springtime of your lives. Enjoy every moment as they fly by! Sorry about that door. I think I would go for a solid door with glass on either side for light.

I just spent 2 weeks in New Hampshire and the last 4 days there the temps were extremely high and we had no central AC🤦♀️🥵 I am now back home in Tn enjoying Central Air! Lol
Hi! love your channel! we also did a container home :) and we used sta-KOOL for our whole Rv roof(we lived in it while building our Container home) and also on our containers, and let me tell you...our containers with the sta-kool are way cooler than our siding. We did containers on the sides and in the middle we did a foundation regular home, so our middle section has regular siding, we didn't apply sta-kool and because we knew metal would heat up a lot here in TX we applied sta-kool all over them, and you can touch them without burning your hands, unlike the siding which gets super hot. Hoping that your home gets protection from this heat!
I would venture to say that you need to give the sliding door more expansion of the frame. You can always use silicone to seal the frame each winter as the frame will contract along with the container metal.
Maybe some sort of moveable panel to shield the windows while he is doing the yard work would prevent future issues with the windows. Like a PVC frame with panels or something.
My thinking on the door glass is that it’s heating the air between the panes and causing pressure to build up. It needs a way to equalize the pressure between the 2 panes.

Have you tried using Tinting paper on the window? My son has a window Tinting business that has heat resistant film paper. If it doesn’t stop from shattering, it will definitely keep the glass from shattering & falling all over
I always wanted to make a small table with a scattered glass top sealed with epoxy.
We are just starting to heat up here in southeastern Washington state. Low to mid 80's and low humidity.
I wish! With the humidity here it feels like a sweaty armpit outside

go to 13:42 on your video an pause. by cody’s elbow, it’s bowing and it’s bowing in the top, where the glass doors meet. the door is gonna keep shattering with the pressure and the heat from the sun. replacing doors yearly can get expensive
The door shattered cause I threw a rock at it with the weed eater. First time the mower threw a rock at it. We built the door frame with 2" square steel tubing so it's plenty supported. And the door faces north so it's never in direct sunlight.

If it is getting hit by a stone shot out of the lawnmower, you might try mounting a screen over it. You might have to use pet screen. You could make it magnetic to stick to the container and only put it up when you mow.

I framed up a pitched roof on mine dropped inside temperature by 30 degrees 👍
If not already planned might start thinking of an a frame add on roof make sure you vent it. Given the heavy sun heat it will be worth it in long run esp overworking your ac unit.
It sounds like and expansion and twisting problem, the steel is expanding and twisting in the heat. Since you have replaced the pane if it happens again get the glass cut a few ml smaller and pack the gap full of silicon this should cushion the window against the frame. Cody mentioned he painted a roof with something that lowered the temperature, this could be an answer once you get the roof painted then you may consider painting the wall of the window that keeps shattering, from Cody's description of this product it may lower the temperature enough to stop the expansion and twisting. I enjoy watching what you're both doing you have achieved so much so far good on you.

Happy Birthday Cody. The heat has to be expanding all that metal with the top being the worst. I wonder if a guy makes the hole bigger and having more wood framing then bigger gaps with more roll insulation. I wonder how much "give" that spray foam has over time? Live and learn I guess.
The door actually has a 1/2 inch gap all the way around it between the door and the frame so it's definitely not under pressure. The first time it broke the mower threw a rock at it. The second time it broke the weedeater threw a rock at it.

Purchase a 5 gal bucket paint screen you hang it inside the bucket and you can dip and remove excess paint right out of the bucket it's much quicker than using and pan .
Yeah after the second coat I stopped using the pan and just started dunking my roller in the bucket lol

try car window film on the glass doors, 1, it helps stop the uv. 2 if it does shatter it'll keep all the pieces from going anywhere. 3 makes it easier to clean & stops scratches on the glass from the dogs x

Try moving the a/c condenser on the other side so it’s not blowing on the glass. The extra hot air might be causing the glass to break.
kilz oil primer will take care of the rust and staining along with a direct to metal paint will endure the weather much better

I wonder if getting an awning of some sort over the back door would help prevent future glass issues by keeping temperature on the glass down.

If I had a shipping container house one thing I would do is put a pitch metal roof on for the reason heating cooling in a house like that plus to build rain catchment system to catch rain water for my garden and it just I would do I thought I would throw that out there
If we don't end up building up then we will probably build a pitched roof over the house
