That main riff is Dime's love letter to Metallica and The Scorpions. It REALLY combines 'CREEPING DEATH' and 'BLACKOUT' to make something new and killer. Dime jammed with James and Lars in '85 so it's no surprised it spurred him to write heavier music. He always praised Metallica in interviews. There was genuine chemistry between him and the two guys too.
He was just a humble guy so he did not feel reserved talking about people he admired, he even had Ace's tattoo on his arm. You can't find this kind of trait in so many musicians especially in Metallica! Metallica was heavily influenced by other bands but expect for James that occasionally admits to have been influenced by others, other members of the band, Lars in particular! act so cocky! So just because Metallica became mainstream does not mean that they are the biggest influence in heavy metal community!
I agree!! Dimebag did some incredible stuff on these early albums! He was really young too! It's a shame so many people don't give these early albums a chance.
dimebags solos are always good. listen to come on eyes, forever tonight, right on the edge, rock the world, right on the edge, we'll meet again, onward we rock, etc. dimebag is a master at his craft and even goes beyond most.
Nothing hair metal in this, just crushing "early Van Halen meets Judas Priest" heavy metal like what they were playing in Power Metal and Cowboys From Hell, Pantera was already Pantera at that time!
@@bumface1810 the vocals and production lacked force, that's why they recruited singer Phil Anselmo for Power Metal and then teamed with producer Terry Date for Cowboys From Hell! On I Am The Night you can clearly hear that Terence Glaze was too weak for the heavier style towards which the other three wanted to evolve. But musically, putting the vocals and sound aside, it already sounds very Pantera to me, the Abbott brothers already had their distinctive style of play! It sounds nothing like hair metal unlike what many people say, it's heavy, thrashy, powerful, and still catchy, just like they would do on Power Metal and Cowboys From Hell but at an earlier stage, and of course with weaker vocals and production! That being said, I love Glaze's voice on lighter songs, his Halford-like screams are weak compared to those of Anselmo, but he still had a beautiful voice, on melodic hard rock songs like Daughters of The Queen and In Over My Head he really sounds good! He just didn't fit the heavier and harsher style the other three wanted to play!

@@DenSvartaStjarnan having been a fan of this band since their totally KILLER debut LP "Feel The Fire" in 1985 I wholeheartedly disagree with that opinion. Along with EXODUS' "Bonded By Blood" - these 2 releases are in the top 10 metal albums of all time IMO. Have seen them live twice as well ( Feb 1990 Orlando FLA "Years of Decay" tour w/DARK ANGEL & WOLFSBANE + Feb 2006 Maplewood MN "ReliXIV" tour) and they were fantastic live too. Definitely one of thrash metals BEST bands over their 35+ years of activity! 🤘
Love this version as Much as Phil Anselmo´s later version i always wished for the four first Lp´s would see the light in CD form Official that is i found but as bootleg
@@xiaoXaoPL Now that you say it, certainly both of them have their own unique charm and I can't really decide which one is better for me, so let's just appreciate the fact that both versions of this awesome song exist and that both of them have many different things to offer
Dime would have been 18-19 when writing this. No tabs, no tutors, no internet, just playing from ear and pure unbridled passion.
Unbelievable groove on the main riff
PANTERA , is the definition of
HEAVY METAL!

Legendary , PANTERA rules !
I prefer this version. Got more of that 80's vibe.
yup, some prefer more dripping cock in their diet.
We defer to the expert on that subject.
Hey whatever keeps you fit I suppose..
Jesse G yeah!!!
Cock rocking, ha!ha!
@1:30 one of the BEST and most epic solos of whole catalog

True. But they looked like glam. Mostly did not sound like one
CFH adopted a new look
Believe me, they STOMPED ASS in these days. No, not quite as heavy but badass. I saw it live.
If you think this production and these corny ass falsetto vocals sound as heavy as CFH I suggest getting your hearing tested.

Imo this version is far superior to the Power Metal version. I like both but I prefer this one.
Are you singing Halford?
Nah, that's Udo
nice. although glam at this time, I can tell that there's a little bit of thrash elements with this one
Legendary, EPIC BADASS!
More Heavy than Glam
Damn. That solo though.
I LOVE 80s PANTERA!!!!!!
they may have had that glam look but they were power metal on this album
That's some kick ass solo
This is the best
Sounds like UDO from Accept.
A bit, but Udo is a bit more screechy and raw. Like Brian Johnson. Sounds more like Steve Souza.
and Steve Souza sounds like Bon Scott :D
Sounds like Overkill.
Not really.

Overkill is a poor man's thrash to begin with

No its actually sounds like Scorpions - Dynamite.
i fucking love this song xD its like "yea, its pretty heavy, but wheres the soloooOOOOOSHHIIIIIIIT!!"
Good heavy metal a la Accept, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Def Leppard..
its funny that this sounds like the intro riff from master of puppets (sort off) and this was released a year earlier.
It sounds like Creeping Death more.
No no no = Def leppard

holy shit holy shit holy shit
My 1st time hearing this version. I think Phil did a slightly better job on the vocals but I still think this is great.
esta version es mejor
Dudes voice sounds like the lead singer from loudness at one point
Which one? The original guy?
Badass
HERE WE COME, DOWN BELOW
Way better than power metal's version
Wrong
@@ryanday9288 right
I almost like the Power Metal version more than this, but the dude sounds like he's shooting a laser out of his mouth at the end of the solo.
Emowolf87 maybe it is the reverb.
PanterA 🌙

I like that they decided to re-record this one on Power Metal. With that said this is way better with Phil
It was because the " audition " for the Gold moutain records major label in 1987 .
(100/10)
This is hilarious
it's glam but freaking heavy as shit
this sounds better with phil on vocals
They are both great!
Agreed.
Phils great but the original singer is killing on this album.
no
Sounds like NITRO.
The Power Metal version is better.
both of them are cool actually :D
Teh Thrasher bruh the quality is better here on dimes
