I like that map. I think games with a pre-20th Century theme should have more drab components, to more closely match the vegetable dyes and natural pigments used back then.
7:45 "I am done with this!" I think this has to be one of the best moments from all the reviews I have seen, and I have seen a lot. Looks like Tom had a tough day and needed to let lose.
The cost off buying ships, especially the first ones if you get battred, is to high. I'd suggest lowering the cost to buy ships and give each player a free ship after turn 1- that makes the map shrink and competion gets fierce much faster= more conflict.
I'm curious what the group of people who had played the first edition thought of this one, (Tom didn't say), mainly because I'm a huge fan of the first one and while I do like some of the changes that they have made, overall, I'm not liking what I have seen of this new edition, and think I'll stick with the original. But I am curious if other people who played the first edition feel the same way.
I stand corrected. He's not a god, he's merely a giant among men. I also apologise for my incorrect attitude. Happy gaming everyone. I am currently obsessed with 'Alien Frontiers'.
I like it, but I did not play the original. There's a lot of challenging decisions in terms of optimal routing and building Basilicas before your opponent uses them up. I liked the map and the pieces. I really have no complaints and glad I bought it. I think I understand the criticisms here, but there's a matter of personal preference in games too. I loathed Settlers, and look at how many people loved that?
This is definitely not the right attitude. Tom is a player like the rest of us. He likes some games and hates others, just like you and me. If I am interested in a game I will watch reviews and if I like what I see, I'll buy it, even if the those who review the game say they didn't like it. Not all have the same taste and everyone can be unfair from time to time with a game.

This game is on sale for $13 at miniature market. I was thinking about getting it based on a recommendation. At $13 it may be worth a look.

It was a great game back in the day. It could be mean spirited though, you can't shy away from conflict.
How does this game stack up against Merchants & Marauders?
i think this is the first negative review I have seen from Tom.... I like it
Oh well. I started to get excited but if but if Tom says no, it's a no. He is after all a god amongst men...
Hahaha at 7:48 when tom unbuttons his shirt he really looks like HE'S DONE WITH THIS GAME.
you're right

Yep, steramlining a game isn't all positive, is it? It's just another way to make a trade-off.
The game looks unappealing to me even though I still like to play the original from time to time
some say that tom is like a god among men...
(others say he's a little obsessed)
I think it was a giant, not a god.
original version is better
