I find it interesting that early this season, we find out that dancing is not allowed in the Fire Nation, and yet the truest form of firebending is "The Dancing Dragon". It shows how far the Fire Nation has fallen.
asheradensein Wow, I feel very dumb not realizing this before. That's a very good point! The fire nation REALLY strayed from the true form of firebending.
Also, Zuko's original firebending style almost mimicked break dancing; a more agressive style of dance, compared to his newer more flowing form after this episode.
One thing that you guys didnt mention but I thought was pretty cool about this episode was that they gave Toph a plausible reason for why she's so overpowered. Toph being blind allowed her to learn earthbending in its truest form
@@phoebusapollo8365 The art, dance, music, and storytelling were so good that Eric had a spiritual experience alongside Zuko. Eric's also kind of joking.
This episode is amazing just for its wordless portrayal (the dance) of what Zuko and Aang were lacking with themselves and each other: *harmony / synergy.* It was no accident that these dragons look like the ones in Zuko's dream; or that Roku and Sozin rode opposing colors, either. This is (one of) the payoff of wonderful foreshadowing since Season One. Gaaah I love this so much !
Yeah Roku and Sozin's dragons were clearly connected to the dragons shown here, they were the past Avatar and Fire Lord combo and Zuko and Aang are the new ones!
One thing with ATLA I love watching the most are the movements in each bending form, which is why when it came to the Dancing Dragon parts of this episode, I get so excited. No matter how many times I rewatch, I never get tired of seeing Aang and Zuko go through the movements. Most especially with the dragons! Remember Jeong Jeong, Aang's first firebending teacher back in B1? This episode imo, clearly showed why he wasn't and wouldn't have been a great teacher for Aang in the long run (if the situation had allowed him to continue as his teacher, that is). The way he viewed firebending in general, it would've made Aang only ever see firebending as just pain and destruction. Jeong Jeong's time in the military caused him to only view firebending as just that and Aang needed someone who had an understanding of both sides. It all comes back to understanding and balance and Zuko was perfect for that role.
Yeah the Fire Bending Dance is beautiful! And I agree Aang wouldn't have seen Fire Bending as it's supposed to be seen, he would assume all it would bring is destruction and everything, when it actually is life and I love how they showed and explained it in this episode and have Zuko realize it too, that was awesome!
i think it is a dragon egg. That's might be why they were pissed at them trying to take it because it's the only hope the dragon race can live on? Thats just a guess though.
Right when Aang triumphantly releases his first burst of fire after meeting the dragons, Katara runs around the corner to hug him and he burns her hands again.
Yeah, same here LOL. Watching this on my TV and my family are like, what the hell are you watching? Turn it down. Problem is the volume for ATLA is pretty low so I have to turn it up so I can hear what the Blind Wave Crew are reacting to as their voices drown out what's happening.
Avatar is, hands down, the best animated TV show ever created. Nothing comes close to it in terms of world building, character development, and plot twists. At least the original show. LoK is still good, but it's not the same. This is one of my favorite episodes. EDIT: Let me clarify a bit more. This comparison includes American-made animated TV shows. I'm not counting anime or live-action shows. Although even then, Avatar is still my personal favorite.
I can definitely level with you and say the second season was extremely flawed. It had great lore. But it had writing problems for sure. But the first season was great, and the 3rd and 4th were honestly phenomenal. Objectively korra is great, but the nostalgic goggles with avatar kind of taint that.
Its weird how much calmer Zuko is doing this. Before now he seemed eternally pissed off. Even towards his Uncle he showed a lot of hostility. But here it seems like Zuko genuinely likes Aang. When he does yell at him its not as hostile and more just him being annoyed.

This episode is incredible with how they went into the history of fire bending and the dragons, I love how Zuko and Aang went on this trip, they look so good together kinda like an older brother, little bother relationship, I feel like Zuko is that one person the Gaang really needed in their group to feel complete, and now they finally are with him, I loved their moments from him serving them tea to Katara and Sokka joking with him about his "Dragon Dance", I also I agree with Aaron, I wish Zuko had joined them earlier as well, not as early as he mentioned but maybe towards the end of Book 2, that would have been nice! Throughout the show fire bending looked like it was only for destruction, and I liked how in this episode it is shown that it isn't destruction but life, as Aang and Zuko realized, their dragon dance is awesome and I loved that whole colorful fire tornado that surrounded them, I think the many colors of the fire showed how fire truly meant life and Zuko's hair with all that fire behind it! My god!
Serena was a fan of the show and wanted to voice someone if possible, so they put her in as that guard. if you watch the commentary version of the episode when she is introduced michael and brian talk about it.
Best part: ,,Seriously do not tell anyone!" cuts to them having explained everything, to a group of six, including a little child. (at least the dragon part)
for the finale episodes y'all should release a link to a video showing you guys react to the whole episode without cuts maybe to just the patrons or something. that finale is wild there's too much to cut
Hasani Houston yeah I agree, they need to show us their full reaction because 10min will not be enough. They can release the 10min edited version to UA-cam and then link their full reaction to like daily motion or something. Even if it does get removed which I doubt that would be the case the UA-cam version will still be up and everyone is happy
Hasani Houston they could have the whole reaction and leave off the episode clips and people could watch the episode at the same time as their reactions
You need to mix the sound differently, I turn up the volume to hear the characters and then Calvin screams at the top of his lungs for some reason and ruptures my ear drums
As for the dragons, YES eric, red and blue. Both, in Zuko's dreams AND in Rokku/Sozin's flashbacks. My understanding is that blue dragon was the symbol of betrayal and anger and rage/"darkness" (Azula, and Sozin's dragon, the one Sozin uses to flee the volcano and betray his friend), while red dragon was symbol of Rokku first of all, then heat and life, kinda like Blue stars/Red stars, blue fire/red fire etc. This episode was about the two of them, creating a balance from the moment you accept these two as part of your journey/who you are. Zuko and Aang accepting their shared past and moving forward from that to become this "whole" that works together in a harmonic dance and their destiny, tying together. I've also seen a lot of people saying that this episode relates to the Blue Spirit episode, where Zuko and Aang had a first taste of what them, working together in harmony, could allow them to do?
The sound wasn't well balaced, I barely could hear the dialogues, can you fix that for the next one? Also there is a minor detail in this episode, the shape of Zuko's fire changes, becomes more round, before this episode his fire had more spikes.
I think the thing with Iroh is what Zuko mentioned to Ozai "We were taught the fire nation was the greatest civilization in the history of the world, and through the war we will share our greatness". Before his son died be probably more or less the same as now but he had that mentality that his purpose was to expand the fire nation, unify the world, and make the whole world great once becoming fire lord. Afterwords, possibly due to the spirit world and joining the white lotus he found a new purpose or gained another perspective.
14:40 "Wouldn't that be extremly viable, to have dragons [...]?" Yes, it would indeed be immensly viable zu have dragons for the Fire nation , and I guess that's why the Show writers had to find a way for them to *not* have any. The Fire Nation already has the strongest military in the Avatar world. They had total sea domination (until the Northern Water Tribe joined the fight). And now imagine them having freaking DRAGONS fighting for them! RIP world.
This will forever be my favorite episode of ATLA. I will never get tired of Zuko and Aang doing The Dancing Dragon with dragons. Also is it just me or does it look like Zuko's fire gets a bit brighter in color after meeting with the dragons (therefore, it burns hotter)?

I think the interesting thing about when Ren and Cha show their fire, Aang and Zuko hid their faces. Aang hid because of fear of being killed again. Zuko hid his because of his scar.

Has anyone else here made the dance together with them when was a child? Because I did! lol Great reaction!
I'm not watching just for the show but it would be more enjoyable if I could actually hear what the characters were saying without having to turn my volume incredibly high and then have one of them screaming so loud my whole house hears it.
For whatever it's worth, I agree with you Luke. The sound balance is way off and you can't even hear what they are reacting to and then the screams blow out my ears.
My favourite episode. Shows the true nature of fire bending and a little more of how awesome Iroh is. Plus, it has some of the best visuals of the entire series.
Funny nobody ever thinks about Rokus red and Sozins blue dragon companions. Because Zuko is an offspring of both lineages Azula is represented by Sozins dragon and Iroh by Rokus dragon.
You guys didn't showed your reaction to ... Aang : " I am impressed Zuko ! I don't care about what others say , you are smarter than you look . " ... BTW when you said " ... like Ginyu Force . " I lost my shit ! 😂
Before I even watch this, I wanna say that this episode is in my top 3 favorite episodes of Avatar. Love this series so much and I'm so happy you guys are watching it.
Something that occurred to me watching reaction videos of the series again. Firebending has been corrupted by the Fire Nation to be fueled by anger and rage, as Zuko stated. Iroh is the one living firebender that we see in the series (before Zuko's redemption and Aang's firebending) to be free of these burdens. The reason why must be due to his visit with the masters, which helped teach him the true meaning of firebending, just as they did in this episode with Zuko. I dunno, might have already been obvious to others. Just realized it and thought it was an interesting detail.
Ooooohhh. I'm only just realising how Zuko got his dragon in Korra. He said that golden egg felt alive, so he must have come back for that later when it hatched. Imma go over here and facepalm for little while
Anyone else notice the Red Vs Blue reference in 5:34 ?..... I hear somewhere that the creators of Avatar were fans of that Machinima (As do I, that's why when this episode first aired 10 years ago it made me so happy seeing this nod to that show).
Really love this episode. The dancing of Zuko and Angg with the dragons always hits me with the feels. We also get a very important lesson here that fire is not all distruction,it brings warthm and life. Also we see Zuko getting slowly socilized. One of the best episodes of the series.I just love ATLA so much.
just rewatched the next episode. i am so excited to watch their reaction. for those who wanna see more avatar reaction and especially legend of korra, there is a youtuber called TheFlamingShark who have reaction of all the avatar reactions.
The sun stone is a thing from the Aztecs. I really don't know anything about it but there's a face on the center that looks kind of like the leader of the sun worrier tribe
Simply legendary this episode. When it comes to picking a favorite, for me there's no hesitation in saying this one. It's just so beautiful, encapsulating, and penultimate. Love it
Loving this. Could just be me, but sometimes I can't hear the show well as your voices are somewhat loud occasionally. So could you turn up Avatar a bit or something as I can't always understand :(. Edit: Looked down and other comments are saying it as well.
+Blind Wave 12:58 - Well Shane, the closest thing to that bible would be the Avatar Extras that aired during the original run of the show, unfortunately they aren't so easy to find these days..... But if you guys are interested, you can find the transcriptions on the Wikia Page (for example this is the one from this episode: avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Avatar_Extras_(Book_Three:_Fire)#.22The_Firebending_Masters.22 , also in there is the rest of that season/book).
I love how this show gets better with every season. First season, great show. second season, amazing show. Third season, legendary show. I think it's in my top 3 shows of all time.
the fire breathing thing was probably just a private joke on Iroh's part. He knows he can't tell another soul on earth about the dragons or sun warriors so he simply lied.
I think the implication for Combustion Man's demise was the metal arm you see for a brief moment before it falls with the rest of him. Kudos to Nickelodeon for doing their best to tell a story that involves death, even if they weren't allowed to outright say it happened on screen. Edit: I kinda feel like Iroh is even more worthy of the Dragon title, simply because he became one with them, rather than killing them.
You guys have gotten so close to the end! First off, I love your show and have watched ever single reaction episode in this series and I have a bit of advice for the final episodes. I do not know if you have already addressed how you will be handling the final parts of the season but the final four episodes are actually named parts. I would suggest doing them all in one go, not cutting out any reactions but instead cutting out the video portions you need to, to meet fair use standards. At the very least i think you should do one episode for the final two parts, The show flows better that way because those episodes are so well written and cohesive that they deserve the continuous watching of them. Just a suggestion, again I love your channel. Keep up the awesome work!
Sozin started the hunt for dragons because he didn't want the Avatar to learn firebending from them. Like how Toph learned earthbending from badgermoles all on her own, the Avatar could learn firebending from dragons all on his own. He can control his firebenders but he couldn't control the dragons. So the dragons had to die.
I love this episode. Also kind of interesting, that Aang is like a blue dragon, have inner peace. So he eventually more similar firebender character to Azula and not Zuko. In Avatar the apprentices for a point more like they masters.
My only problem with that is when I had to turn up the volume to hear it and then they scream and blow my ear drums out. lol. Should've balanced their peaks or something.
There's a fan theory that the dragons turned on the Fire Nation and Sozin after they attacked the Air Nomads since the Fire Nation upset the balance. Thus even Sozin's dragon turned against him, so the dragon hunts were started to prevent the dragons from allying with their enemies.
In a way, "Dragon of the West" is more fitting for Iroh than any dragon hunter, since his firebending is more similar to dragon fire than any firebender outside of the Sun Warriors could have.
I find it interesting that early this season, we find out that dancing is not allowed in the Fire Nation, and yet the truest form of firebending is "The Dancing Dragon". It shows how far the Fire Nation has fallen.

"Shit, I think *I* understand!"
Notice how Zuko bends fire without grunting now that he doesn’t use anger.
i love the tone of voice calvin has when he says "if i could set you on fire i would" like that is pure long suffering friend
Blindwave after literally every episode: That was a good episode.
I've been waiting for this episode since you started the Avatar series, this is my favourite Avatar episode.
Ooooohhh. I'm only just realising how Zuko got his dragon in Korra. He said that golden egg felt alive, so he must have come back for that later when it hatched. Imma go over here and facepalm for little while
Zuko: "I understand."
Eric: "Shit, I think I understand."
Headphone warning: there’s yelling!
9:16 When they close the fire circles, they do the Fire Nation salute! It originated with the Sun Warriors!
How did i never realize that when aang said, "monkey feathers" he actually meant, "mother f*****"
On the other hand, Iroh did joke about burning Ba Sing Se to the ground.
Seeing as this went up 7 seconds ago _(at time of clicking on the video)_, I'm assuming the comments below me are all Patreon supporters.
You would assume correctly.
Sozin did not hunt dragon for sport... but for honor. Also Can't wait for the next two episodes. One of my favorites in the series...
I didn’t even realize until now that Druk (Zukos dragon in LOK) has to be Ran and Shaws child/the egg from this episode. Wow. I’m slow.
This episode is one of my favorites. It's só beautiful to see the interaction between Zuko and Aang. The dragons and their ritual, amazing!
I can't wait till the Southern Raiders and The Ember Island players. best episodes in this season besides Sozin's Comet.
I like how it seems like the dragons are a blend of eastern and western styles of dragons
"I understand..."
-Shit, I think I understand.
LMAO
just rewatched the next episode. i am so excited to watch their reaction. for those who wanna see more avatar reaction and especially legend of korra, there is a youtuber called TheFlamingShark who have reaction of all the avatar reactions.
My favorite episode of the entire series! So glad they finally got to react to it.
Love it
I swear when I see Zuko and Aang doing the dance with the dragons it makes me realize how much heart and research goes into this animation
Loving this. Could just be me, but sometimes I can't hear the show well as your voices are somewhat loud occasionally. So could you turn up Avatar a bit or something as I can't always understand :(. Edit: Looked down and other comments are saying it as well.
"Shit. I-I think I understand."
Me too. Me too.
I love how Aaron always says "DEATH" when Eric tries to start a Sentence.
1:08 Calvin's sneezes are...wow...the cutest sneezes I've ever seen😂😍
In terms of the dragons- recall that Sozin rode a blue dragon, and Roku rode a red dragon- just like the dragons in Zuko’s fever dream.
Fun fact, in the intro, Azula is actually doing a part of the Dancing Dragon
9:02 When Zuko's scar switches sides.
So the dragons had to die.
can't wait for them to see legend of Korra
The field trips with Zuko are just beginning
I love this episode. Also kind of interesting, that Aang is like a blue dragon, have inner peace. So he eventually more similar firebender character to Azula and not Zuko. In Avatar the apprentices for a point more like they masters.
I been waiting on this all day
Just for the people complaining, the show volume has to be low to prevent copyright
3:05 LMAOOOO the guy on the right got scared for his life
I'm still mad that Sokka only took a bite out of that apple and threw it on the ground.
In a way, "Dragon of the West" is more fitting for Iroh than any dragon hunter, since his firebending is more similar to dragon fire than any firebender outside of the Sun Warriors could have.
