- Oldsmobile 455 Howards 4-7 Swap CL514825-10 Test Run with the intake manifold swapped out to the new Edelbrock 7551 RPM Air Gap. As mentioned in the video, I REALLY made sure to do a true back to back swap out of the Mondello Toronado dual plane intake, as I have gotten to know this engine throughout various test runs. Same exact ignition timing, carburetor, fuel, untouched so as to make sure it was a true "clean back to back" comparison. Conventional wisdom and also general opinions as discussed regarding this intake swap was that the throttle response was expected to be just a bit less responsive off idle but starting to shine in the 2200 up range. Well, surprisingly the response is better everywhere - off idle, off high idle, 1800, 2200, 3000 - you get the picture - the throttle response improved everywhere. I sure do wish it was in a car though, as test stand runs are definitely showing vastly crisper response, but this response in a car is the type that really makes you smile by doing what you ask of RIGHT NOW, setting you back in the seat. Yesssss..... detractors are going to say that there is little to no flywheel weight on the engine at present (no heavy torque converter or clutch assembly) so of course it's going to be responsive, BUT this is a back-to-back same everything / same test stand back-to-back swap out and the difference is very much so improved! So, test stand run test or in the car, the response IS vastly improved everywhere. I sure wish this was in a car right now so that I could take it out for run :)
