- Far From Home - Having a Bad Day.
Hello Space Engineers and welcome to my let’s play scenario - Far From Home. Stranded 25,000kms from the Earth Like Planet, the mission is simple, get home. No asteroids, no ores, just savaging any flotsam I come across and ‘perfectly legal salvage’ of any ships crossing my path once I ‘persuade’ the current owners to part with them.
Mod and scripts used initially for the start of the series (full list will be updated in the playlist description):

Honestly, I wouldn't consider the time spent making the intro as "too much". It is nothing short of awesome no matter how long it took.
Thanks Robert
Using ores in a salvaged ship? Yes, anything onboard is part of the salvage. Seems if it had materials (eg., steel plates) it would be fine. That's my vote. :)
yeah totally finders keepers...
Liked the opening
Thanks David, it took a long time (too much time) to put that together, but it's an intro I've been wanting to do for ages and it came out well. Bit of an abrupt start after the beacon turns on, originally was going to be a stand-alone trailer, but I thought intro attached to the main video would be better.
When trying to hack a component, take along your lowest grade grinder and use that for pulling out the computers, less chance for overshooting and removing half the components.
Alls fair in salvage, finders keepers.
👍🏴☠️
Seeing the character remembering his wife was heartbreaking, really something we don't see in SE
Although fictitious, I needed a strong reason to make the long journey, and I think that ticks the box. It's a shame there aren't more scenarios like this in base SE game, basically Never Surrender style and simplicity, but with different goals. I would have thought it was easy enough for Keen to do, easier than the likes of lost colony etc.
Well done , it looked as hard as it should have been, work with what you can collect.
Looking forward to the rest.
Watched and 👍 Liked
Good morning Wellington, nice to see you running a stream
Just a premiere, so it's pre-recorded, but it encourages me to get into streaming. It will happen, just not quite ready yet.
I loved the intro, we must get you back home. Can't let this end up like UP.
👍
I’ve began watching from the beginning, Wellington!
Cool, great to hear. Remember though, we don't speak of the first three episodes.
Wow just wow Wellington wow you have out done yourself wow nothing can compare to that intro wow great work wow I’m shocked was like the start of an epic movie wow
Thanks Keeper, a lot of work, but worth it and I think sets the scenario up well.
Also that opening was amazing =D
I just found your channel through randomly browsing the SE workshop on steam and seeing your platform blueprint there. This is wonderful content, and I can tell how much work you put into this (especially the great intro). Keep up the great work man.
Thanks BW and welcome. I publish all my blueprints and out of the blue, that one trended. Yes I do put a lot of work in, but it's worth it, I really enjoy it (the video production), thanks for noticing.
Yeah. Finally. 😀 I was looking forward to this for a long time.
Me too. Looking forward to this scenario, but also the concept of short scenarios to allow me to try different things.
awsome intro love the way it was done
Thanks Anubis, a lot of work and really makes no difference to scenario, but absolutely sets the scene.
There's a couple of random encounters that spawn with asteroids, so I've put the spawn rate right back on those.
My very first perfectly legal salvage spawn was one with an asteroid.
I've also turned the asteroid spawning bases off, partly because one that regularly spawns glitches for me, the grids aren't in the right place and either inside or floating free of the asteroid.
Cool intro really cool
Looking Great so Far. Loved the intro and i agree if its on the ship when you capture it its yours and you can use it. Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks Dinoblues
Great job on the intro.
Only got half way I look forward to finishing it later.
Think you should look at the Hostile Takeover mod. It still has a level of challenge, but without the tedium of grinding down all the functional blocks to fully take over the ship.
When looking for Search Contracts, my technic is to, like you, go 750 m past and point to it and straf in an arc. Sometimes you can see the sparkler will moving.
You're the second to suggest straf'ing as a search technique, I'll give it a go when I next do a contract, could be sooner rather than later, I thought the contract were behind me, but stuff happened.
I love the intro so much!!!
Thanks Adam, appreciate the comment.
A fly-i-away one unknown signal in space
Aka a Mk. 10
Side quest: collect all unknown signals (intact) for a museum back home
I like that side quest idea. I'd need to do it on this playthrough, Ares Colony the US are few and far between at the moment.
@@Wellington6012 5,6,7,8,14&17 can only be found on planets.10&19 space only
Stumbled across your page on the SE workshop and figured i'd give these a watch. Keep up the great work from a fellow Kiwi. :D
Ora Kia Penguin and welcome to the channel. Thanks for the kind words.
One of the things I've done when trying to capture a ship is take the components for a simple seat and build it on the ship I am trying to capture. Then I can sit in it and get recharged. :)
Seems obvious now, but only figured it out for the first time this video ...I'm still learning
Great intro and video. Grabing my popcorn 🍿 and settling in for a binge. 🎉
Thanks Swordplay, a lot of work went into that intro, but well worth it and that whole series I have fond memories of, especially since starting the second installment of the series last week.
Ill miss this due to work but the description sounds good!! Best of luck Cadet o7
Thanks Nibbles
Nice to see the upload thanks!!
The intro was awesome, it really set the scene. As others have said, i think its perfectly fine using the contents of ships you've captured, so long as you dont get a jackpot sized haul 🤣👌
I think the easy takeover mod would be a good idea, maybe also consider the 'i found your crap' addition to 'aww scrap'
I wish I knew about 'I found you crap' before I started, would have been great for the game start. I feel like I've missed the opportunity this time (probably could have gone without the trading post survival kit cheat), acknowledging what the game mechanic it would still bring, I'm just thinking about the monotony of watching slow grinding down of valuable blocks.
Nice job on that intro.😁
👍
So when you parked up outside the shield, you could have gone straight for the control seat (that you ignored til the last 5 mins, stressful). That, the beacon and the antenna, and the remote you got, should give you the ship. Grind those blocks below hack line. Then weld either the seat or the remote back up, or just place a new one, and the grid is yours. If there is a cryo chamber or med centre on the grid, you’ll need to grind those too. If you’ve done all this and it didn’t work, go for anything with a computer in.
Thanks for the info Colossis, still figuring out this perfectly legal salvage. I kept going after I switched the camera off and hacked the Antenna, Beacon and Control Seat, still numerous block saying I can't access, but haven't actually tried changing ownership yet. I'll just keep adding to it and see how I go, I think I own enough of it already to call it mine.
@@Wellington6012 I recommend the "Easy NPC Takeovers" mod. It makes it so you just need to hack the main system blocks of a grid to take the whole grid (essentially how it should realistically be.)
@@tackytrooper NPC takeover seems to be superseded by Hostile Takeover. I have downloaded it, looks good, you still need to do the core work, but it tidies up those loose ends. Thanks everyone for the suggestion.
I didn't deserve 3:38! I am seeing more players?! Good work on the intro. Support from RSA. Cheers.
Dankie C0833. 3:38, you shouldn't have expected anything else, it is me after all.
@@Wellington6012 Jy is welkom. Dankie dat jy hierdie videos maak want ek het nie tyd om dit self te speel nie.
I would say take the ship to just outside of the SafeZone and power it down then you should be able to take out the turrets at your leisure. If it works that way.
Nice thought, but I don't have access to the batteries, unless I grind them down to disable them, but didn't really want to loose them.
I find searching for things in a 3D space is easier when you move side to side instead of forward. Like face forward and use A and D to move right and left. It is marginally easier to see something against the background.
I was so annoying those on camera searches, I had no troubles finding previous space buoys, so thought it was safe to do one on camera, murphys law. That's a good idea with the side shifting, I'll give it a go next time I do a search, although probably not here, as not far off leaving the trading post, got to get home.
26:26 этот корабль есть в сценарии Learning to Survive если его захватить то можно попробовать получить ачивку Planetesphobia, у меня не получилось, зато на нем я бился с последним босом в этом же сценарии.
26:26 this ship is in the Learning to Survive scenario, if you capture it, you can try to get the Planetesphobia achievement, I didn’t succeed, but on it I fought with the last boss in the same scenario.
And by the way, I think the Learning to Survive script is simply brilliant and no one shows its passage according to the developers' idea, use the means that the script offers, restore, mine, fight with what is, but for its passage they give a rather beautiful skin for the character
Полезно знать, спасибо Борис. Позже, когда я буду лучше подготовлен, если еще один заход, я могу попытаться получить это достижение.
Good to know, thanks Boris. Later on, when I'm better prepared, if another swing by I might try to get that achievement.
I would have also used anyone if the noc takeover mods to help with ship takeovers just so that you don't have to work As hard as you normally would.
Tomorrow's episode I try 'Hostile Takeover', but it didn't work for me, so have gone with the hacking block, but don't have components yet to build one.
@@Wellington6012 I love the hacking mod, it's awesome. Personal favorite of the easy takeover mods. It's good for pvp also which is why it has the firewall block if I remember right. I don't know if they added it to the encounter mod you can run or not, but it would make them more interesting if they did
What's with the killer door?
Its scripted to close when the other airlock door is open to keep the air in
I know right. I have never gotten along with the NPC doors, thats why I put so much effort into my own airlocks.
I
s your jetpack not strong enough to tow ships you capture back to home base. it sure would be easier for you that things and put them at the base
It takes a while to get up to speed with a large grid ion, so not sure my little jet pack would handle it.
How did you add the survival kit to the station? I'm trying to make a similar start and just realized I have no idea how to do that...
alt-10 admin tools, ignore safe zones, then I just creative moded it in. An option I considered for the play through, but didn't do, was to alter the safe zone perimeters to let me build inside the zone. Again, alt-10, safe zone menu.
Loved the intro but I gotta know how did you get the spider to stay in the ship?
I spawn it in and the wolves in above the cell and quickly put the roof on. The wolves behaved, but the spider glitches into the wall after a few seconds, so it was a lot of snippet recording and editing nightmares, but seeing what I was trying to achieve, couldn't not do it.😁
if you were actually in this situation would ores in a captured salvage ship be a no? for me it wouldn't I'd do what ever it took to get home
Thanks Angelus. The general consensus was all salvage is perfectly legal, ores included.
@@Wellington6012 yeah I saw in the next one... just discovered you so binge watching while playing it is...
@@angelusmortis3256 Welcome Angelus, hope you enjoy the videos.
lol million dollars for medical comp, dollars lol its "credit" :P
LOL, yeah I know I corrected myself at least once, but expect there are more times I didn't. I've been saying dollars my whole life, I can't just change that over night!
Can you put this scenario on the Steam Workshop?
Haven't done yet, but I will
@@Wellington6012 I created a facsimile of the scenario and posted to the steam workshop.
@@tonycable4560 That's cool Tony. I'm still intending to put version on too, I think it would be good to share.
@@Wellington6012 One thing I noticed trying to create the scenario. The Survival kit despawns when you leave the area of the orbital station. I created a separate structure inside the safe zone and attached the survival kit to that. I also added another orbital station that sells spaceships 1100 km away from the first and slightly hid the data pad with coordinates.
@@tonycable4560 The station despawning is of course a problem I struck first hand after my "practice run". I thought of hiding a little small grid locked to it to stop happening.
Gotta admit, I skipped through the intro. 5 minute cinematic intro is a bit much for a let's play series.
I appreciate the effort involved, but I'm here for gameplay.
The Survival kit gives you a respawn point, which is important, and lets you refill your hydrogen, but that's the only "cheaty" part. your suit oxygen refills when you go inside anyplace with atmosphere (like the station) and you can just sit in one of their chairs or lay in the beds to refill energy. So no big deal there.
Also, since asteroids are off, I say anything you can get your hands on is fair game. Don't know if you have any other planets turned on, but I'd say they're fair game too just due the the distance you would need to go to get to them.
Thanks Brad, appreciate the feedback and know those cinematics aren't everyone's cup of tea. During the Ares Colony start, I succeeded surviving by purchasing hydro from the trading post, I felt I already proved myself, so happy to take the cheat on this one, but yes, cheat. There are planets, but I'm not sure any are really 'on the way'. I did consider whether my 'random' start location had a planet along the path home, but decided to stuck with true random.
All the Keen vanilla ships are ugly as hell
