Osaka's most colorful and bizarre place isn't even meant for tourists

- Wacky and sublime. I went to an artificial island off the coast of Osaka, Japan called Maishima. The Maishima Sludge Center and the Maishima Incineration Plant were designed by philosophical architect Friedrich Hundertwasser. The buildings, which forego straight lines in favor of strange, colorful meandering shapes, gold spheres, and hallucinatory walkways, are a rejection of the usual ugly, brutal industrial look. This is not a tourist destination per se, but I managed to visit one morning and wander around (and even inside) the spectacular and unique buildings - which, to be clear, are for municipal waste management. (If the mayor were Dr. Seuss.)

That was fun, Jeremy -- thank for taking us along. Hundertwasser had something of a following here in Sacramento. There was a gallery that showed his prints and drawings all the time. What you showed us today reminds me of Gaudi's park and church in Barcelona, and the Watts Towers of Los Angeles. An art of accretion.
I kept thinking of Gaudi and Barcelona the whole time too! So much fun to see something playful and meaningful and unusual (especially in drab Osaka).
That is a genuine suprise to see one of Friedensreich Stowasswer's masterpiece in Japan. I visited all of them in Austria and am a big fan of his work.
Check these out in Austria: Spittelau waste incineration plant AND Rogner Bad Blumau - two other incredible masterpieces of Hundertwasswer.

Loved watching you scramble to make the bus! The excitement was there, we all wondered will he make it or will this vlog simply turn to sludge? Great content as always. Only you could make us want to watch a sludge factory on Christmas Eve!
The architecture looks like something out of Uzbekistan, with elements of Asia Minor and the Ottomans. The intersection of philosophy and sludge. A place for scholars to explore..
Next stop Uzbekistan then!
When the Universal Studios Japan was first opened, some people drove into this place by mistake.
Heh. Wake up kids, we're here!
- "Where??"
Incredible architecture, great video! I think it was very educational, possibly even for some people who have lived in Osaka their whole lives.
Yep, I think it's something most people here vaguely know of but wouldn't imagine actually visiting for any reason
That was interesting. Haven't traveled much. Thank you. 🙂
I asked about the ceiling. Thanks for answering.
Thanks, good question. Sometimes I miss the interesting little tidbits of my surroundings like that
Def' shades of Gaudi here! Sludge has an attraction worldwide. When I lived in Glasgow, Scotland in the bad old days when the city dumpted its sludge into the sea, you could take an afternoon cruise on the sludge boat as a passenger. There was a waiting list for tickets!
Who knew sludge was such an attraction worldwide
It is far more fun than one would expect a sludge center to be.
Actually worth the trip out to the coast, amazingly enough!
Neat place. As always, thanks for sharing with us!
You're very welcome
You deserve 1mil followers❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Thanks, I'll work on it 💪
Was there any smell from all this ?
Try some water called Pocari Sweat. I have and it is very good. Thankful I found your channel. Merry Christmas today. Stay safe Jeremy. 😊😊
I didn't notice any smell. Yes I've had Pocari Sweat - it's actually not bad!
@@T1DWanderer glad no snell.
I tried Pocari sweat. Very nice 👌

In order for you to even make these trips possible, you should plan on using the money that your patreons paid on your UA-cam channel to pay for all these journeys, so you don't have to worry about spending a single dollar out of your pocket for these train tickets. Along with these Amtrak reviews, you should also take a road trip from Los Angeles, CA to Alpine, TX as well as exploring Alpine, TX for three nights before proceeding. The reason why you should do this is for you to see Alpine, TX a little more, as you have very limited time to see the town when riding on Amtrak. I am also suggesting you to take a flight on JSX in May 2024 from Dallas-Love Field (DAL) to Westchester County (HPN), as well as a trip to NYC, as NYC is just an hour and a half away from Westchester County Airport. I kindly request you to consider the following suggestions as potential ideas for future Amtrak and travel reviews. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing these plans come to fruition and anticipating a timely response from you soon!
Sincerely,
Tran Jacinto
