This was even played when Britain had handed over Hong Kong in 1997. This handover marked the end of the British Empire as Hong Kong was its last Colony
Not gonna lie, decolonization made the world a worse place. Way more wars, entire nations in Africa deforested completely to provide GDP revenue, and massive shifts in the balance of power between freedom and communism in a bad direction.
Not anymore, they changed to the Chinese foot drill like around 2 to 3 years ago. They still play some of the PLA marching songs with bag pipes though. And the rankings of the officers still follow the British style of ranking too. While they are slowly eroding British legacy on the HKPF, you can't really get rid of it overnight. And even if they erase the markings, they won't erase the memories.
Seeing the Hong Kong Police Force march in British style makes me believe that there's still hope for the Union Jack to fly high over Hong Kong once again
1. There wasn't that much democracy at all when HK was under British rule. 2. Colonization is a challenge to China's sovereignty. Better not mess with China. 3. The HKPF uses Chinese marching drills now.
They changed to Chinese drill recently. I'm fairly sure they changed their service rifle to the Type 56 or some other AK derivative as well. It looks weird, seeing British style uniforms and goose stepping.
This passing parades "form" was the only and last thing left. The HK popo force is corrupted AF and beyond redemption. As long as many things that was supposed to stay were no longer exists.
@@gregdaweson4657 Sounds like the “protestors” didn’t really care about democracy after all. Especially if they beat up anyone who disagreed with them.
@@harutosunaa3881 Really? Because I remember the protesters getting tear gassed and beaten by the police. Next you'll tell me about how the protestors at Tiananmen Square were beating people as well!
@@gregdaweson4657 No. They beat up anyone who disagreed with them or even spoke Mandarin. The police didn’t kill a single protestor (unlike what happened a year later in the US). They lit people on fire and killed people who told them to stop destroying things. It’s ironic how they fly the flag of a country which would be far less tolerant of them.

Luckily, HK, for now, upholds many British traditions, including in the police passing out parade, using British marches like this.
you got some great skills comrade brother
@Franklin Delano Roosevelt while I am not fan of simply "allow communism to enter" - if I am a policymaker in some Western country.
当时英国人本想坐飞机回去的,但是中国政府要求他们坐船回去,象征着大英帝国坐着船来到这里,又坐着船离开
Nothing screams pomp, ceremony and charm like maintaining your British traditions.
Alas, the Hong Kong Police no longer march like that. They now goose step like nazis.

Wasn’t free under British rule. There was almost no democracy back then until the 90s.
Britain should have never left.

Not sure when this was filmed but I think the CCP forced them to start using the goose stepping Russian drill form that the PLA uses.
So no democracy? There was little democracy under British rule
@Haruto Sunaa democracy is a facade.
