Got a 22mm 'chocolate bar' rubber strap for my Seiko Turtle with anthracite dial. Between the dial, that strap, and a domed sapphire beveled crystal from my SBDC153, that Turtle is a homage to Seiko's first 3 divers. Turned that Turtle from something I got for parts into one of my favorite watches.
I think that I read an article by Larry on his site where he describes the hollow endlinks as being designed to be adjusted as you describe ex to ensure a better fit that is flexible enough to overcome inconsistencies in the seiko cases.
Nice review, and good points raised in your review and your answers to comments, so I recommend people actual read the comments in this one. It is good to have people you trust reviewing particular items since from a picture, they do tend to all look the same, but quality and materials can be night and day.
I cant say enough good things about the Uncle Seiko Z199 bracelet I got for my SKX007. It is a jubilee style, but with an all brushed finish. Perfect look and comfort. Thank you for the review of the others. I might get one of the rubber straps for one of my other watches, but I always want to wear the SKX since it looks so good on the Z199.
Uncle Seiko makes some of the best straps in the game! I have a president style on my SKX and it elevated the watch to a new level. Larry is such an awesome guy BTW!
I've got two Uncle Seiko waffle straps for my vintage 6309 & 6105 dive watches & a bracelet for my 6138 chronograph. The quality of the straps is pretty good although the one for the 6105 is an earlier version & quite stiff. I was not impressed with the bracelet though, on their website it was described as having 3 microadjusts but only had two. Also the links would often jam together & the quality of the clasp was not very good, although once sized it did wear nicely on the wrist. I did point out the microadjust issue to Martin who is the agent for Uncle Seiko in the UK, but to date the website has not been updated.
Larry's straps are comfortable! I have a z199 on my skx mod and its my favorite bracelet for that watch. Also a jubilee on my sarb035 and it makes that watch wear like it should. Great straps just ordered a gl831 for a turtle. Great guy with great customer service as well.
The beads of rice bracelet is amazing on my mini turtle...the rubber straps are great, but pretty short for normal to large wrists. Great advice on the Seiko fat spring bars.
I had a iffy experience with the tropic strap from uncle seiko The 1st tropic keeper broke off almost as soon as I started wearing. I contacted U. Seiko and he sent me a new one same issue with the second. Also the president bracelet for my turtle never fit quite right but he did warn that on the website. Well good customer service at least.
I wound up buying the Blue Marine Nationals Navygraf GMT and sold this one to get it. I kind of miss the colors on the original, but they're both great.
If you don't like a watch like you thought you would, before you flip it, try different straps on it. A couple of my favorite watches were destined to be sold before I did that. The right strap can make all the difference in some watches.
Great review of a great product. I have had several straps from Larry but my favorite is the tropic strap. If you haven't already done so please check out Borealis tropic straps. They offer several colors and they are made of vulcanized rubber and are very good quality. A word of caution though, plan for a long delivery window, mine took 8 weeks from Portugal.
Really useful video. I'm thinking of a Blue Rubber Uncle Seiko to go with my newly purchased Great White Shark Turtle Save the Ocean SRPD21K which comes with a metal bracelet. The Blue Waffle Uncle Seiko in this video though does look quite a shiny/plasticky blue which puts me off a bit. I was hoping it would have the dull vulcanised rubber look but this seems quite shiny looking. Has it toned down at all with use? Maybe a GL831 Blue would be better if I'm looking for a Blue that is not so shiny/plasticky looking...
I just got the black tropic. Looks and fits well. I stuffed into an 18 mm case with no problem. The only criticism is that it feels like plastic and not rubber.
Did you get one of the older ones on clearance? I heard those had a harder texture. The one that I got feels really good, not plastic like at all.I heard that the older ones take longer to break in, but eventually soften up.
@@JusttheWatch I think it was on sale. I soaked it in hot water and it conforms to my wrist well but I've got another tropical that is butter compared to the Uncle Seiko.
Shoot me a link to the one you're talking about, the ones I could find in that price range all looked like they were made if Silicone rubber, which is a totally different material than these.
Hiya Dave *Great* Bracelet & *Great* rubber straps. ...and I'm glad that I'm not the only one who has trouble getting a hollow end-link bracelet back on a watch TBH! I learned the hard way that all rubber straps are not created equal. I have my old Invicta Pro-Diver on a vintage inspired rubber 'rally style' strap. I paid decent $ for it because I loved the style and I couldn't find it elsewhere, so the price was the price. And it's a *great* strap. At the same time, I was buying a Tropical strap - same style as what you reviewed - for my Seiko 55 Fathoms, so I decided to cheap out a bit to offset the cost of the other strap. So thebTropical looks fine and it's comfortable but the rubber compound is a bit tacky and collects a heap of dust etc., and it makes my wrist feel a little tacky after a days wear. So when I purchased a waffle strap for my Capt. Willard I did a bit of research and ended up going with Uncle Seiko. And you are correct. They are spot on. So I'll be buying a 2nd Tropical strap - this time from Uncle Seiko. So the lesson is...again!By cheaping out and buying an inferior product, I've ended up spending more in the end! 💸 You think that I would've learned by now? Cheers and Best Dave. A.
Unfortunately NOTHING seems to be produced for larger wrist sizes i.e. 20cm or +8” inches without having to go custom at 10X the cost, do you have any suggestions?
Might ask Alton @Half Past Blog I know he's got a big wrist and buys lots of straps. Mora Nato straps I think are large wrist friendly, and if you don't mind waiting for a custom strap to be made and shipped from Columbia, Adanino makes really affordable custom leather straps: www.adanino.com/
At least you are lucky that you can wear most watches. But the opposite is true as well. If you want affordable custom leather straps I can recommend Martu Straps - www.martuleather.com
I always enjoy your videos man. Rubber straps are the way for me personally, I don't like metal cinching arm hairs. I'll take a look at this. Cheers as always...
I have a Tropic for my SKX009J AND MY Orient Ray2.... absolutely LoVe it!!! I also have a FatTire strap in 20mm for my SKX013 and presently on my SNE107 Solar Prospects. Hi, gotta say you are developing your style and channel very well, it seems you and I got into the Hobbie at similar moments in time and it’s great to watch the channel develop. Having said that a few issues that hit me as I watched this vid: words are crucial and “throw this on” is never to go over well either for you or you product, get a can of air as far too much dust around on your close ups, add some diffusion to your lights as it’s too hard and flattens all in view and washes the colour and textures away. Uncle Seiko may do decent straps, but his approach to customer care is a desaster. If you buy there, use PayPal only. Is the bezel insert on that Navygraf misaligned? I've been contemplating getting that watch, but if they have QC issues I might have to pass
Nope, mines aligned well. But it is 90 click, so it's not going to line up on every marker because of that. But at 12 it's lined up pretty good.
