D'antoni did do a lot of those cutter/Alley oop actions with Amare and The Matrix. Amare caught a ton of lobs from Nash and a lot of rim runs off PnR. A lot of people think of the teansition stuff but there was a lot of playing through the bigs.

Here is the thing, off ball can be more affective than on ball, you just have to be able to read and be good at help defense and switching, but you definately need to know how to play on ball.

k4f movement...players can’t move as fast as the ball and also, off ballers will most likely be out of position to defend their man. Likely cause they’re hedging with a center out of the paint.
What's the best time to call a play cause it seems like the defense catches on real quick or people just keeps sending double teams & really can't read the court cause you busy trying to get away from the the double teams
The game becomes way easier when that happens. As the double team is coming, back up with with the ball handler you must icon pass to the open player because if you don't 2k will make you pass the ball to someone whose being denied.

How do you initiate your offense when the defense is applying pressure? Do you isolate to get the defender to respect the drive or run the offense from another player?
Usually I literally just hold the ball with L2 and stand there. If you're playing against a human opponent they almost always get impatient and try to spam steal which leads to a foul lol
That's how I typically protect the ball but it ends up with me not being able to dribble any direction....am I doing something wrong or do I need to be a little more patient?
Point the left stick to the area you want the receiver to catch the ball while passing. If you're asking how to make them cut, hold triangle while pointing the left stick to the player.

Freelances are pretty easy to remember when you get used to them, especially this one. Playbooks are tougher obviously but yeah.
