To all the meanies who commented on my last video about the poor camera work, I am sorry. But I tried to get this uploaded asap so you could see it almost immediately. This one has some more footage and I tried to cut out the shaking or slow down the speed to reduce the shaking. Ok, I suck, I know and I zoom too much, I know that too -- just chill out. Next time a boat sinks I will take more care to be still.
I added music again so that the video doesnt seem too boring because it is a little long. This song is by a girl named Ralia (Greek Singer) and the some is Called (Ego gia Sena). I dont know who did the song on the other video I posted.
The ship started to list in fira after hitting some volcanic reef in the old port. Then they dragged it here to my work (Volcano View Vip Villas www.volcanoviewvillas.com) so that they could wash it up by the beach, but that didnt work (maybe on purpose) and it sank around 7 am
Man, We had such a fun, fantastic, sun filled time during our stay at Santorini. Loved the red beach and the black beach. Good food and wine.
This song is so beautiful. A proper song for such a beautiful ship. May God show the missing people his mercy.

Had no idea she sank, I remember going on a cruise with her when I was 8 years old with my parents when she still was in the baltic sea.
That is so sad!!! They were so close to land-poor people! Imagine if you were on that cruise and you had that in your mind forever! Great footage!!!
@SidneyXda It's too bad you feel that way. The ocean is wonderful. Sailing across the sea with a gorgeous sunset is a magnificent feeling. As you see the skies getting darker the moonlight gets stronger and the stars appear more clearly in the sky. It's a wonderful feeling. There's nothing more greater in the world then cruising.

This is the best video I have seen of this disaster. It is a sad thing to see a big ship go down. Despite your critics, for me out here in Hawaii, this video is excellent. Our local news never showed more than 30 seconds of this and here I got to see nearly 5 minutes of footage. Great job.
if you were staying at enigma at the time, you could see the initial event. some of the footage at the beginning is from near enigma. there is no pollution at the area of your hotel and they are constantly trying to contain anything floating up to the surface
What a tragedy for the French father & daughter and all of the families that this affected. Don't take what other people say about your video to heart, unfortunately there are a lot of "meanies" out there. Our world has lost compassion and it just saddens me. Two people died! You caught a moment that may never be repeated in Santorini (let us hope) and you brought this to us to see. Well done! I gave you 5 stars. Thank you for sharing.

This is so depressing. I was on that ship about a year ago. That's where I met my boyfriend and we shared our first kiss on that ship. I actually went to that exact port, and to see that ship there, sinking, hit me hard.
Nice presentation of an unfortunate event. Quite deep where it went down even though so close to the cliffs.

my mom was on that ship. she called us after it hit but we didn't think anything of it till we saw the footage. we didn't realize it actually sank until she called us again after it did.
This is a cruiseship originally from sweden and finland and is for most swedes known as Freja from the tv show Rederiet that ended in 2002. Will will miss you Freja!

I sailed on a Greek ship the SS Australis from Australia when I was 14 in the 70,s the Greek crew were great fun, a time Ive never forgot.
This is a sad end to a ship, wouldnt like to live on the edge of that cliff where the video was filmed from looks abit high to me.
It feels so unreal... she sank on my 17th birthday... I was home, having a party with my family and friends, eating cake and getting presents... the same day the Sea Diamond went under.

the water reaches around 300 m where it sank. They tried bringing it close to the beach but it is still deep there, the bow is sitting at 70m and the stern at 140m it is pointing upwards on the side of the caldera basin

my mom was on that ship. she said it was due to the negligence of the captain and crew. they failed to realize they were about to run aground, and they ended up hitting some sort of underwater reef.

so! we've established that there's no footage in between the zoomed 'flag'/misty list and the red bit going under. Half an hour prior to the red bit would be great, an hour...Heaven...2 hours, well! I'm starting to get excited! Love the Oceanos sinking video on here, but, just a little more would have been brill

Mabey 2 died, Beacause 2 French Citizens Went missing in the ship. They are believed that they didn't survive. And 4 were injured. 2 somewhat died and 1,993 survived.

Yeah, I bet the locals were depressed. A lot of people are when something they see on a regular basis gets destroyed/dissapears, etc.
There used to be a budget airline that operated from an airfield in the city 20 mi. north of my house. This company had 7 silver and white DC-3s. The flightpath was right over my house and you could tell time by them. Then the airline went bankrupt 8 years ago, and the DC-3's were gone. I still miss them...

@ismisestephen Just got home from there. Stayed at the hotel at the top of the hill. The ring to catch oil is still there. Our waitress at the hotel said the people of Santorini are very mad that it hasn't been cleaned up. Yes, it's still there. She said some people say it hit something. Others say the cruise line was in financial trouble and is was done on purpose.
Two French citizens, Jean Christophe Allain, aged 45, and his daughter Maud, 16, are listed as missing. The underwater search of this cabin recovered nothing. Divers continued searching on April 10, but nothing was reported. wikipedia.

I remember seeing the news the day the ship struck the rock saying that the ship was stable ( and in fact, it seemed so ) and that it was dragged to safe waters, and then the other day hearing that it sunk... What can i say.
So close to land, I can't believe they couldn't have saved that ship.

@URframed2 Its worse than you think. That 300 metre cliff is the edge of a huge volcanic crater. The low lying island you can see beyond the ship is a new volcano which rose in 1707 out of the flooded crater left behind about 3,500 years ago when the entire island exploded. Still active, last eruption 1950, Also serious earthquake in 1956. Good place for holidays, though.

Seems the ship was rescueable at the beggining, seeing that it took a few hours to sink, the gap probably wasnt terribly big

I missed the last bit by about an hour. I was up till 3 and got sleepy. It was going down so slowly that I thought I would see it go down in the morning, but I got here an hour too late. She went down around 7am. I used someone else's vid for the ending.
Actually, now hell has broken loose between the insurance and the shipping company. It will be on the Greek news for ages

Great video!music,cutting,excellent! tears came so sad all, they didnt do waht they could to save the ship.i have been on that ship many times many many times,so many memories,before she cruise in the baltic sea.we went maybe 10times every year with her ever since i was small.now they have anew ship and this sold to grece and sank =( Lucky only 2 die.it reminds of how thin diffrence of life and death. how deep is there?salvage her? (now little to late but)...

I'm so surprised the Greeks didn't have more media coverage of the ship sinking!!! Just a few night shots and a morning one?? And no real footage of inside too!
At least the crew didn't "SPLIT" like on that other Greek ship. There is absolutely no excuse why this happened. Modern technology, computers, and proper chart planning would have not let this happen.

@ajlisknillat they are thinking of salvaging it now because of hazardous metals etc. - environmental balance is sensitive in the caldera
@unasomos A bit of fact checking would have turned up that the MS Sea Diamond was made in Finland by Valmet.
@EricDonVelasco12 - No. That's definitely Thera (what most people call Santorini) on the lip of the caldera.
