When a comedian deals wittily with an unexpected heckle, it can be very funny. I saw a clip of a US comedian beginning a story with “The first time I had sex …” at which point a woman shouted “YESTERDAY”, and the comedian responded “YOU REMEMBERED!”.
Scottish people might be awful hecklers, but Scottish comedians have some of the best responses to them, like Jerry Sadowitz. "Does your face bleed every 28 days?".
I have seen a lot of good comedians and none of them use that word "like" in there routine. Like, the word "like" like seems to, like, slow down the pace of, like, the delivery. Same thing goes for the word fuk when it is used habitually to get a cheap giggle from the audience
Carr's retorts are learned off and irrelevant to the heckle, most of the time. The exceptions are when he requests the heckle in advance. He is simply not a very good comedian.
Jimmy encourages hecklers, None of Jimmys hecklers are serious, Part of Jimmys acts is heckling, If you ever go to a show he literally says has anyone got any heckles and he does a 15minute segment on hecklers.

Comedians and hecklers have a long-standing and complicated relationship. While hecklers can be a source of inspiration for some comedians, they can also disrupt and spoil a performance for both the comedian and the audience. A good comedian can handle hecklers with wit, charm and humor, turning the situation around and making it a memorable part of the show. However, it's not always easy and some comedians struggle to deal with hecklers. It's a test of skill and experience to handle hecklers well, but when a comedian rises to the challenge, it can make for an entertaining and unforgettable performance.
Not completely true. I saw Alexei Sayle many many years ago and he actually got angry because no one heckled him. Some comedians, once they have the experience, don’t mind some heckling, in part because when you’re in the middle of a tour doing the same material night after night it breaks things up a bit, in part because they get to show off. Because, make no mistake, all professional comedians will have an arsenal of quick replies. So long as it’s done and over quickly and the heckler then shuts up, I think you’ll find many comedians don’t mind all that much. True, it can knock their rhythm out, particularly if they’re about to hit a really good punchline, but if they’re clever they’ll get over it with style. And of course, they can always remind themselves that they are getting paid, while the heckler is paying…
I saw him in County Durham a few years back, not a big venue. Someone started heckling him & it got a bit hairy - I thought he might leap into the crowd & start a fight!
