Okay guys finally found the source of my rear wheel rattle on my 2022 #grom ! Check yours and let me know in the comments if you are experiencing the same! And if you are getting it without prior removal of rear wheel!

2 things. First, if you took the rear wheel off, the wide spacer goes on the drive side, narrow on disc side. Second, that safety guard on the sprocket acts like a bell and amplifies sound. I stretched 2 135mm OD 127mm ID 4mm wide o-rings around that safety ring and it deadened that sound. Huge difference. I got a 6 pack of those o-rings from Amazon for $8.
You’re a legend. I think I found your video on a Google search of this. My idea is to get some thin adhesive-backed foam. Should be able to stick it on and deaden the sound without having to pull the axle is my hope.
Hey bud, I've got a 2022 Grom and after getting the tires swapped the rear sprocket was grinding and shaving metal into the chain lube. It was unridable. So the bad news is that the OEM rear sprocket is unavailable to order, and there aren't many good choices for an aftermarket just yet. The good news is that I'm pretty sure a pre-2022 rear tire damper sub-assembly works on this wheel, so I've ordered that, a new chain, new sprocket, and new sprocket nuts. This should fix this issue. I went that route because my concern is that the damper sub-assembly is warped or incorrectly milled as it also wobbled with the sprocket on mine, so I'm knocking out as much of the issue as I can without replacing the entire rear wheel assembly. I hope this helps and you get yours working. Mine is sidelined until all of my parts come in. Also something to note, the rear axle was massively over torqued, as was my front...and other bolts, but the axle bolts were hulked on there.
Maybe a good call I hope I don’t have to go through that much but if it comes down to it so be it!
I have a 24 sp with 6k miles it went dead on me no spark so i brought it home wiggled wires and it started sparking so I put new ends on the coil fast forward I put it back together and go for a ride I noticed I herd a light pop in the rear but it started getting worse and worse drove it back home pulled the rear wheel and the bearings are toast and before anyone starts I keep my chain adjusted properly ECT
Noice lol
Stock chains were garbage. ...Did a new sprocket fix it ?
I'm having the same issue, I think it's my rim or hub, i replaced both sprockets and chain but it's still got the same wobble it did before. Axle is strait and the wheel bearings seem to be fine, if anyones found a solution for this I would greatly appreciate it
Yep I’ve found the exact same thing on mine. I feel confident that my front wheel casting is out of round as well. It hops at 30-39mph and is aggravating. The factory tires were WAY out of round but the wheel is also out of round.
Dang good to know thought noticed a hop on mine too! All the more reason to swap to spoked!
Really it took you that long to figure out? It's really noticeable right away.
Mine is doing the EXACT same thing
New from the dealer less than a month ago.
You might have over tighten the right side just three turns too much in it pork the chain in the chain as you were riding it through the sprocket hub outa wack
Ditch the stock sprockets and go with a 14 front and 31 back. Helps reduce a lot of rotational mass so you don’t sacrifice torque for higher speed.
31 rear? Really?
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding yessir. I’m riding around right now with 14t front 31t rear on my 2022grom. It’s the same as 17t front and 38t rear (15t/38t is stock) but with a much smaller moment of inertia addition to the drivetrain.
@@CharlieSolis whats your rpm to mph ratio in 5th? 50mph at 5000rpm?
ive got a 2024. ive put a little over 100 miles on it. ive been hearing that noise for about a week now.
Everyone has been fixing this with a new sprocket.
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding I'll let the dealership know when i take it to get the break in oil changed out. keep my fingers crossed.
Mine is brand new and has the exact same problem, tire has never been removed!
Man that blows. Dealer any help? These Thailand build bikes just don’t hold a candle to the old Japan built Hondas
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding I just started riding a 2023 Honda monkey a few weeks ago. It has the loudest rear sprocket I have ever heard. I returned it to the dealer, they said chain was too tight but even after adjustment it's still loud. These Monkeys are very pricey for what they are. Disappointed so far. I`m likely going to replace rear sprocket and chain and see if that helps.
It looks like you’re missing a locking nut on your left chain adjuster FYI (don’t want that coming loose!)
Thanks! I’ll double check that for sure don’t want a chain flying off lol
Sounds like the chain is out of alignment. Did you align the chain ?
That was my first though and yes I aligned and then adjusted it every which way but loose!!
THATS THE F'N SOUND!!!...
mines the same way.. sometimes sounds like a chainsaw.. sometimes just a light grind or clatter.. i look at my rear sprocket and its doing the same wobble thing. these new groms seem to have quite a few issues.. more and more people coming out with the issue im having with transmission
O no! What’s the trans issues!!!?
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding mostly happens in 4th or 5th gear.. riding along and all sudden..starts screaming and chattering really loud..i have a couple videos on it.. sometimes robs of speed..sometimes doesnt.. shift down and it quits and its fine..then comes back later on..
Dang I’ll go check this vids out and keep an eye out for it! Thanks for the heads up brother!
Mine just started whining like Grom_Squatch at 240 miles.
@@fubutubu2132 no good.. im gonna try and contact honda again this week
The cheap chain they give jumps and messes up the teeth and bends happened to mine to
Sure isn’t the made in Japan quality. Honda taking shortcuts on us
F’n annoying! I can see wobbling here from where I’m sitting y’all! John your on a mission!
I know right! FML!
If the guard comes off take it off and try it with just the sprocket
So what is the other noise I'm hearing?
Other noice is the brake disc through brake pads Good Ear man lol
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding I was wondering because that's what I hear on mine when I ride and it drives me nuts. Got the exhaust on it now so I don't hear it as often though.
Nothing wrong with the sprocket no sprocket is completely true it's the guard on the outside edge of the sprocket my cb 300 has same issue.
The guard is not making contact with anything the wobble in the sprocket is rubbing the sides of the chain. As I make adjustments to the tension it gets better or worse but not adjustment makes it go away I spent hours working on this. It is no doubt the sprocket bent causing this. Well at least in my bike
@@BackwoodsOffroadOverlanding I would still take guard off and try it if you can if it comes apart before spending any money on it. Plus I'd grease the bearings if nothing else works then it comes between you a the manufacturer. If bent that bad then you will have to deal with dealership and we both know what a pain in the ass that can be. I always try check everything if I can before dealing with the dealership. If they were bad right from the manufacturer it's always like pulling teeth trying to get them to replace it for nothing. Good luck
my sprocket is bent on my 2022 also brand new
Seems to pretty dang common I still need to order a new sprocket
damn i thought i was the only one with this issue
Sadly no…..
I have a 2023 and its 2months old and it the same way its these cheap ass sprockets they made for it. Mine wobbles just like urs
Sort of disappointed with Hondas quality these days. They just don’t make things like they use too
The dog is faster 0-20mph
Lol yes
Yes get better sprockets stock ones sh
Sprockets not bent it's the chain
Did you not see the where sprocket is bent? Either way they both look to be crap will be changing them both and front sprocket
It's not the chain. It's the sprocket. Mine has the same issue. You can remove the sprocket and sit on a piece of glass and there is a 2-3mm bend
