I find this video really fascinating. Because this comparison is competing the first coated string Elixir Polywebs with the new recent D’addario XS strings. Like modern vs original type thing haha.
Polys sounded warmer as I like, the XS sounded more clearer and brighter. Polys work well with my new Taylor I just brought and I’m grateful for them.

I have been Elixirs since they came out. I have acid hands and no matter what I do, I have to use coated strings. Will give the XS’s a try. How do they stack up for longevity against the Elixirs? I usually use nanoweb versus the poly. Great comparison video.

I didnt do a good longevity test unfortunately. Maybe someone else can chime in?

Great comparison! I have always avoided 80/20 strings but recent testing has shown me that a great guitar always sounds great regardless of what alloy is used for the wound strings.
However, coated strings are something else entirely. The oils in my hands can kill an uncoated set of strings in a few days and even some coated strings like D’addario XTs only last 2 weeks. For years I used Elixir Nanoweb phosphor bronze and for me they can last as long as 6 months. When D’addario introduced XS strings I made the switch and a set lasted me a year but they were quite brittle sounding with a significant loss of bass.
Another annoying thing I found with D’addario XS strings is the bright overtones generated by the coating itself. In some cases the overtone can be louder than the fundamental note of the string. I tried hard to like XS strings but switching back to Elixirs brought back the warmth to my Eastman dreadnought. Now I will have to give Polyweb Elixirs a try because there is something about the simplicity of their tone on this video which appeals to me.

IMHO... D'addario XS better for tone and sound than Elixir.. XS thin coated strings feel great and smooth...
I already put XS on my guitar for 3 months till now, and their sound still fantastic..
But first and second string goes black and rustic within 3 weeks.. Does anyone have same experience ?

Are the xs as “slick” or slimy as the polyweb? I actually love the slick feeling

Me too! Not as slick I'd say. I prefer the elixirs for the feel.

Imo 80/20 suite your taylor very well even though your using custom light I'm guessing with the bit of fret buzz but, nothing a good setup won't cure. I'm a luthier at Bourgeois Guitars in maine and we use nothing but Ej16s on all Bourgeois but... IMO elixir nano 80/20 and phosphorus cannot be beat. I agree with you I think they have a better clear tone and better harmonics then uncoated strings.

Tyron Woodley and Jake Paul look different here.
