  • Diagnosed with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) at the age of 47, Mark's journey began after a routine visit to the doctor revealed an enlarged spleen and an alarmingly high white blood cell count. Despite initially attributing his symptoms to the stress of a recent move and a new job, Mark soon realized the severity of his condition.
From dealing with night sweats and extreme fatigue to navigating various treatment options and TKI's, Mark's experience highlights the importance of listening to your body and seeking multiple medical opinions. His story underscores the critical role of a supportive community, both personal and medical, in managing a serious illness.
His story is a reminder that with the right support and determination, it's possible to navigate even the most challenging health journeys.

You look strong and well now. Well done navigating this difficult disease. My fabulous, wonderful, loving husband died from ALL 11 years ago when he was 59. The treatment was hell.

Very well spoken and easy to understand, thank you for sharing your story! Best wishes for your future! I am curious, just how high was your WBC? I can't get a straight answer from my oncologist how high is too high. And at what point do they do a bone marrow biopsy. From my understanding your serum test levels have to be off the charts before they get concerned or do a BMB.🙏❤️

I was told once that wbc can go really high (400,000 in some ).Usually they look for other things too- enlarged spleen, liver, lymph nodes etc. then they usually do a bone marrow biopsy.

I would definitely go for the transplant if your leukaemia remains stubborn, I've worked in haematology and oncology for many many years so I've seen it all I know how brutal the regime is before a transplant but you need to live so go for it. My son had lymphoma when he was eight it was very advanced but kids are so resilient they don't show symptoms until they are really poorly. Luckily after very brutal chemo, he lost his hair fingernails toe nails spent six months on hospital got sepsis with every cycle of chemo as well as needing blood and platelets all the time, he ended up being fed through his central line when the methotrexate damaged the mucosa from his mouth all the way down to his stomach, it was a nightmare time, but he is well and has been for over twenty years. I wish you much luck and send healing vibes, I'm not religious but I am in your corner, all the very best from the Uk🇬🇧
