Dev of Genome Guardian here - First of all, *OH MY GOD I AM SO HAPPY TO SEE THIS!* Second: *OH GOD I AM SORRY ABOUT THE COPYRIGHTED MUSIC.* (I spoke with him in DMs about it already) I am very new to this. I was told by multiple people that there wouldn't be an issue and that I shouldn't need to explicitly state that the music is copyrighted. I've put an update out that makes this super clear right on the main menu now! (P.S. it's not me making copyright claims, it's the creators of the music, or something)
This seems like a great game, I'll probably pick it up, also big kudos for being so in touch with the community and quick on your feet. Good luck out there, keep this up and I think you'll do great.
This game is probably one of the best roguelikes that came out this year. It has such a simple premise with the four base weapon type system but has actually some deeper strategic mechanics behind it and a LOT of variety. Not only have you 69 (nice) different weapons in the game, you also have over 70 different perks, some of which can completely alter the way you play and you have 38 different turrets which are also very different. Examples include Daisy, which constantly spins around and fires in two directions at the same time or Deadeye, which always has pinpoint accuracy, including shotguns (no spread). Would be nice if you could cover more of this game because I think it's worth it with all the avriety that the game offers. The dev is also an absolute beast, he constantly has pushed out update after update since release and he still has more planned including another new game mode (breakout this time).
I'm not going to lie. I really enjoyed how you played this one strangely. Some other games there's sometimes a that's suboptimal itch, but for this it was fully endorse the gameplay and how you approached the game elements.
Meta progression gives actual purpose to playing, and get more options to choose from. Without it, there is no progression outside of a single run, things are fleeting. That in particular is really nice, having the extra perks and towers be available there constantly keeps the game fresh. Every advancement and victory you achieve gives you the ability to go further,.
@@OlexaYT Yes, and Meta progress makes sure I look forward to every game, as it changes and improves by what I chose over the course of my meta progress. It is a more long term enjoyment.
So here's a meta progression idea you might be more into. A loadout system. Your highest score gives you points to spend on what your vehicle/character is, what weapon you start with, maybe what stage or what stats you begin with. Idk... Not sure it's that awesome, but it's an interesting idea.
Im definitely gonna grab this, itd be interesting to see more! The dev has shouted you out on Steam, and also mentioned that you can disable the copyrighted music in the settings
Would love to see, if a future update ever wants new weapon classes, Uracyl, Pseudouracyl and maybe those artificial nucleotides X and Y someone once made. Could even be made rarer than the base four or something
Dev here - If I can turn "indie gamedev" into my full-time job, I wouldn't rule it out 😮 but BOY would that be an undertaking... Adding another letter, and/or letting weapons reach 5 letters, would roughly *double* the current weapon count!
@@AAAlpherior I can only imagine! Things get chaotic when effort scales with the 4th power of the types of letters. In any case, quite liked the concept for the game. Hope you get to make other cool aruff
lol the (almost) instant regret at 19:10 after the impulsive buy at 18:34 🤣 I don't see why you always bought the slots AFTER everything you can just unlock them right before you've found something you like
A few months late to asking this question but, what is your personal reason for disliking meta progression? I'm in the middle of playing around with making a roguelike/roguelite and was leaning towards the latter with significant meta progression I had assumed that a majority of people like it (myself included). I've never heard the perspective of "meta progression = not fun" and am curious to anyone who feels that way, what specific parts take the fun out of it for you? Also is it just the way that most people do meta progression or is all meta progression annoying/unsatisfying? (i.e. if this game only gave you new unlockable ships with your research points that are slightly better is that still "bad" meta progression or is it a more fun version of it?)
Unlockable content = good, improving your stats to make the game easier as a whole, but really the game is just balanced around you losing until you’re more powerful, thus gating the funnest part of the game until you’ve dumped hours into it = bad
It always feels lazy and intrusive to me. Like the game is taunting you, telling you you need to waste your time losing before you can win. Some games do it very well but others just waste the player’s time. Tiny rogues is an example of one that does it very well, buff the player but give them many choices so it’s strategic and not just “here’s 5% more damage”
@@OlexaYT quake 3 arena is an arena shooter. unreal tournament is an arena shooter. you correctly described it as a topdown shooter. i have never heard anyone refer to any topdown shooter as "arena". in what way is it "arena"? literally the only environment i see is enemies? are the enemies the arena? do they constrict you in your movement? do they have a layout to learn? do you move through them? i am serious with these questions btw. i have 0 clue how and why anyone would associate this gameplay with anything one would ever refer to as an arena.
Brotato is a roguelike arena shooter, this is essentially a Brotato-like. I treat my genre definitions off of other games that share the same genre name
@@OlexaYT brotato is a top down bullet hell survivors 🤷 no clue why they use that label to describe themselves at all as the term existed 20 years before brotato and described games that have almost nothing in common with brotato. but fair enough for some weird reason they describe themselves that way. i see more similiarities between brotato and this than anything i ever heard anyone refer to as arena shooter before... so i can follow your reasoning here :)
It's not a secret if you post about it on UA-cam. If you're going to make a clickbait title, at least wait until the video starts to contradict yourself!
All of the music in this video is copyright claimed so hopefully you enjoyed it 🥲
XD
I am still waiting for new video of lingo
Feels bad m8
🥲
That’s a shame really enjoying it so far :)

Did you already see that astronauts guy video about your game?
Edit: his name is intern i think
Also is TTTT a nuke?
It is indeed a nuke
is locking the upgrade and buying it, then it reappearing again the next round a bug?

you should always list it just in case so people know they are exposing themselves to risk.
ngl the Annihilation main theme remix went kinda hard tho
"I'm in heat bro".
Well, that's a random thing to say all of sudden😂
you can love things without it being a secret Olexa. We'll respect you anyway.
I love that the whole game starts partying along to the music when it picks up

Is it really "secret love" if you make a UA-cam video about it for the world to see? Glad you're having fun. :P
I hear your copyright woes olenky, and I pledge this sacarfoce to the algorithm so you may prosper beyond your enemies

So glad to see this game on your channel! Fell in love with the prologue, myself and insta-bought it on full release.
I would love a series on this! 🤩
"By product of having a good time" Lmao, sometimes you catch me off guard
14:36 one shotting on first hit😂
Finally some quadruple A experience thats not an ubisoft dumpster fire! Rock that minigun!
Love the variety on your channel, but also doing miniseries when necessary ❤
This game is so fun and addictive. I want to unlock all the turrets and weapons.
“the music is starting to make me go crazy” the phonk was actually wild
One of these a week series, please. You have fun, the audience bops, that 4% needs to be changed.

No I think he knew exactly what he was saying lmao
Meta progression is fine if it doesnt feel like grinding
Hi olexa
I hope you make more videos of this game. I absolutely love it
Looks like a fun game!
Petitioning to change the series name from 'Olexa Looks' to 'Olooksas'
Oh looks ass?
Please don't be serious.
Obviously it should be "Olexa Looks-a"

7:28 Is Olexa still talking about himself IRL or is he talking about the game??🤣🧐
Why does he tap fire individually. What's the point of having a fast attacking weapon
Love Olexa Looks and am missing UFO 50!
I swear at the end there it played the theme from Annihilation
Meta progression: you win by playing a lot...and not for being good
I think AGTT was a downgrade because you had a shot speed up on it, seems like the type of gun that wants a slow bullet
Never been this early before! Love your vids!

when will you play it again?
Probably never. My channel is heavy variety and this was just a first look
