And, as always, thank you for posting the lists of the picks for this episode. Saves the list making and allows for greater enjoyment of the show. Nice to see Neu and Split Enz pass the revue. Mental Notes (1975) was indeed their first album but it was never released outside Australia/New Zeeland. The Follow up album containted a bunch of new tracks and a bunch of redo's from their debut. Second Thoughts (1976) was produced by Phil Manzanera as their first worldwide release. Phil Judd and Tim Finn were two crazy captains on the same ship. When Judd left Tims younger brother Neil joined the band. Dizrythmia (1977) was their last album with a prog feel but punk pop influences were already sneaking in. Those first three albums show a different band than the more new wave and Beatlesque pop group they became in the early eighties. Worth checking out.

    Galactic Cowboys - self-titled debut. I was blown away and had to buy the CD after seeing the video for the jaw-dropping We're Not Amused on MTV (must have been Headbanger's Ball). Other key tracks are Why Can't You Believe in Me (with its persistent vocal harmonies), *SEA OF TRANQUILITY*, the heavy Kill Floor and the emotional epic closer Speak To Me. Surprised this album/band isn't talked about more on the channel.

    Epic show guys in fitting prog kinda fashion. Really love and appreciate the variety on this. Anthony's picks are more mellow and a bit jazzy with some Canterbury scene thrown int he mix. Pete's picks are a mix of classics and some lesser known prog rock. George's picks are largely metalled out and fusion whereas Chuck's picks also gives a nod to some krautrock classics. Great stuff thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Thanks for including IQ, Pete! If I remember correctly though, IQ's debut was "Seven stories into eight", which they released themselves, on tape only. Some one and a half decade later, IQ re-recorded it as " Seven stories into 98", and it really showcased what a great music material it was! If it had been recorded with that quality and that level of musicianship initially, in 82, it would've been a killer debut. "Tales..." was the first from them released by a label.

    • @Miler97487
      @Miler97487 3 роки тому

      True, as no one ever ranks the debuts from Yes and Genesis as their finest. The debut of Yes clearly shows the band dipping their toes in the water but not having their sound fully developed. From Genesis to Revelation was a pop album (that already sounded dated for 1969) that bore little resemblance to the prog rock they would quickly explore after this album. Other than King Crimson and perhaps ELP, the major acts didn't really take off until three or so albums. The more obscure bands tend to get it right away but many of them did release their debuts a little later on, where they could observe how many of the major bands evolved.
