Greetings from Germany from a former GDR citizen and Simson enthusiast. Would be really interesting to see an actual benchmark test on this. But without the exhaust and the original air filter you wont get the best results. And Simson doesn't have a head gasket but maybe you added it for a reason.
I'm glad you mentioned that they don't use head gaskets. I had too much squish band on my little 2 stroke motorized bike engine. So I removed the head gasket & it seems to run fine. Many people were telling me that it was a bad idea. I think it'll be OK without the head gasket = aka 1mm thick piece of aluminum spacer. As long as my squish band is in spec & piston isn't smacking cyl head.
@@michaelbrinks8089if you look up Smolik, he sells heads for them engines that use a viton rubber ring as a gasket. Those seem to be well worth the money for racing purposes.
as far as i know, later versions of s51 and s53 had head gaskets, those are not needed but can be added just to be sure about head being sealed properly
It's a great job. I say congratulations, congratulations...Le Dan is a dynamic artistic engineer with a photographic memory. He can see in his head what he wants and then build it himself
Cool Thing! You are very talented! Just one thing: You have to put locking plates under the 4 screws that you can see here 9:55 . If you don't you will lose your clutch at some point! Greeting from Eastern Germany

Love the build, just sad you used some.perfectly fine motor housings, most of the original ones are broken and could be used for things like that. Anyways I'd love seeing this engine in a S51 driving, perhaps even tested the performance.

@@helixworld I don't think so, just look at the new / modern inline twins these days, they are all 90 / 270° apart: MT07, new Honda Hornet, new Suzuki GSX-8s, all KTM inline twins, etc., and sound much better as a result. They also don't lack power.
@@liver.flush.maestro Honestly I think that is a modern fad. The 270 degree engines normally use balance shafts so they are just making the engine heavier and more complex for the same performance. That may be a matter of taste, but to me it is not worthwhile for the sake of V twin exhaust note. Just use a proper V twin in that case.
@@helixworld Actually they use 2 balance shafts rotating in opposite directions in deed increasing complexity 🙂 But since our dear Le Dan has full control over the angle between the crank pins and this is a simple 2 stroke without timing components, the only change is the tab welded on the magneto for ignition timing and angle of the 2 crank halves, I thought it would be interesting to test things out 🙂 And while we are at it, we could also test a big bang engine with both pistons moving together and thus firing at the same time.

Great build. The motor looks good & sounds pretty good. I think it would be awesome if u could take a v-twin motor and modified it to have 4 cylinders instead of 2. But thats just a thought. U do amazing work.

I know this might sound crazy and impossible. Can you produce a 2 cylinder single rod engine? hoping to see this type of modification. Thank you and more power to your channel 🖤
Thank you everyone for supporting my video 🥰

Very good Project

I like your security flip-flops! Awesome job, excellent!
Du hast goldene Hände, unglaublich! 👌🏻 Meinen größten Respekt für diese Leistung!
i have written it before; you could be a lead engine engineer for Honda, Yamaha, or Porsche; great work.
Great job, great video.Simson's are still popular in my country. Much love from hungary.

It is very good!! The only thing is that both cylinder have the spark at the same time, you should have 2 sparks at 180 degrees away…
Bravissimo!!!I miei più sentiti complimenti!!i tuoi lavori sono sempre più belli, più precisi e ben fatti!! continua così!!💪

Nice build!
You should have put the 2 crank pins at 90°, it would have had a better sound 🙂
180 degree is more balanced for more RPM. IMO twins should all be 180 degree, even the 4 stroke ones. Just ask Honda.

I was always told that the Arrows on the pistons point to the exhaust port, at 10:32 point they are pointing the wrong way?
Nice build, but The Arows of the Pistens are at the wrong Site
yeah, and they were kinda twisted. like they didn't directly point to intake or exhaust
He forges his own pistons it's possible the marks are slightly misaligned
Very amazing work and effort you have put into this
