Thank you, Very useful. Very disappointed by Apple for introducing such a NOT user-friendly way to turn on and off the silent mode. I spent quite a while in the sound settings to get there. Never happened to me with other cheaper brands.
The switch would be nice if it would work. A split second after I turn off silent mode the phone turns it back on by itself ignoring the switch. Yes, all cleaning of the button has been tested. If I would believe in conspiracies, I would say that it is in the software for older phones, to annoy you long enough missing calls until you buy a new phone.
The designers of this phone must have had the intention of making it the most irritatiing load of rubbish possibly imaginable. The problem I have is I cannot afford to buy another so I have to put up with its total incompetence. You have my empathy with such a stupid device.
My elderly mother has memory issues and some how finds the silent switch on the side and has turned on the silence button. I have duct tape over the toggle switch on the side. Even with it covered she somehow turns it off. is there a way to disable the settings so she can not jack up her settings?? thank you for all of your help.

I know about the toggle button you speak of and, depending on which way you switch it, a VERY TINY message pops up at the top of my screen but I have major problems reading as to whether it says the sound is on or off. Is there another easy way I can check it please?
