My first pair of skates were Edea Ice Fly’s. I got sooo much slack at my rink from the younger girls because “they’re for triples/quads.” I’m an adult who’s fully grown and I’m taller than the average adult woman. I’ve broken both of my ankles three times growing up because I was a gymnast spending tons of time in the gym. My skate tech said Ice Fly’s or Piano’s were best because even though they were stiffer boots, I needed that support and with that support she felt I could still be able to break them in. As a beginner skater I love my Ice Fly’s and after a few months of skating I’ve broken them in and its not painful!

yess this comment! some people may not understand that the more you weigh or more muscle you have the more likelihood youll need a stiffer boot!!

I started in Jackson Elle’s and they have lasted me for a few years. I’m currently working on my singles jumps and they’re holding up just fine.

Same I found used Edea Tempos but they still look like new but I'm not sure that Edea Tempos will be good for since I already want to start learning jumps and they aren't really meant for jumps

Around me many have different graf skates (since its a swiss brand they are easier to get in switzerland)
I got the graf prestige 3 years ago as an adult skater and they still work great.
Since i could already do some basic skills (forward crossovers and maaaaaybe a 3-turn and mohawk and such) i got those. I go skating multiple times a week during the season (no summer ice available 😢). They were broken in after a few weeks and im still very happy with them now. I am learning multiple single jumps and spins including sit spins.
Key point for me was actually going to the shop and trying the prestige and a softer (graf caprice) one.... after just standing in them for 5sec i knew the caprice would not be enough support (even though strictly by skill level they would have been a great fit as well), so i got the prestige.
I did skiing ever since i was a kid and some dancing on the side so maybe had some strength from there as well 🤷🏼‍♀️.
I also know many others with different graf skates (children and also adult skaters) and most seem to be really happy with them so they are also a great choice and have lots of options for beginners and more advanced skaters.

@@18Charlie.exe04 I have changed from cheap skates from amazon and I find them much better. I can do pirouettes and jumps better (waltz and toeloop jumps) and the support is great, but the time it took to take the shape of my feet caused blisters. They are beautiful, but are perhaps a little expensive, after you can keep them long enough even to start competitions, I bought them second hand, almost new at 130 € but new they are almost 300 €, in France anyway.

I had the overtures and they broke down in 7 months and I only skated twice a week for 50 minutes. I know everyone has different experiences so I’d like to know how they lasted for you as well.

For everyone who has to order online because there’s no skate shops in your area:
Please please please be mindful that 'average' for any measurement on a skate is usually for little kids. I measured my foot perfectly but when we ordered I selected the average width because surely my foot is average? NO! DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE AS ME. THEY WERE SO SO SO NARROW I COULD NOT PUT MY FOOT IN.
P.S I wouldn't recommend them getting sharpened before theyre shipped to you either. For me, they were really reluctant to accept these skates as a return because sharpening counts as the skate being 'modified.'

I started off my figure skating journey at 14, although i first stepped on the ice at 7 years old. My first two pairs of skates were both cheap skates, it’s a miracle i managed to self teach myself crossovers in those! When i was 15, i got Jackson mystiques and about a year and a half later, i decided that i wanted stiffer boots despite only being at uk skate lvl 6. I ended up getting jackson debut fusions, keeping the mark 2 blades that my first proper skates came with. I was worried that i overbooted, and maybe i did, but i was able to adapt quite well and they aren’t too stiff for me. Currently in the process of trying to get mk pro blades to replace my mark 2s, this may be overblading but, i would prefer any blade over the mark 2s! They are so hard to spin on 😂

i use Graf boleros and most beginners at my rink use them and I have seen people doing singles in them and spins. They are quite padded and supportive and they are what the skate shop recommended to me as they are apparently more padded than the Jackson ones. I live in England and they were about £90 and I am in more of the experience part of England I would say. Hope that helped 🫶🏻

how much should you be able to bend in the ankles? Everyone talks about it, but can you show an example in the boot? I have a stiffer boot, but I lace it looser so I can bend, but I'm wondering if I'm lacing it too loose or too tight.

I started in January and I got used skates for $40 (really good price) but around August I got a program but my biggest concern was how my skates were giving out when I landed my jumps causing my ankle to hurt. It wasn’t just landing jumps but it was also when I was just skating normally. Sadly my parents don’t want to spend money on a new pair is skates until next year so I’m stuck with them for now

And I’m planning on getting a custom one next time I switch because I my left foot is a little bit smaller than my right foot

hi Sofia!! i really love your videos and i wanted to ask some questions on here since i can’t on tiktok (parental restriction). i’m 13 and wanting to make a vlogging channel about figure skating, like what you do. i was wondering what you did for your first video or short when you first started out so i can have some idea when i’m ready to start a channel. the second question was what kind of camera do you use? if you use a high tech one, but if you just use iphone thats way more perfect for me 🥲. I’ve currently been skating for almost a year (in February it’ll be a year!!) i doubt you’ll see this or want to respond but i wanted to try and reach out to you because i need help and no one in my family or friend circle does this kind of stuff. thank you for your time if you do read this, love you girl. KEEP ON SKATING!! 💗💗

Hello , i am 21 and i want to start figure skating . I did 5 years of rollerblade and i know how to stop, glide on one feet, swizzle forward and backward slowly. I don't have the financial means yet to afford more than one group lesson . Do you think i can learn the basics on my own with youtube and asking advices to figures skaters and then pay for coaches when i progress in more difficult spin or jump?
Do you think it is possible for me to do intermidiate level competition further down the line if i train 2-3 times a week on ice and 2-3 off ice session?
    thank you 🥰

    • @abandonrz
      @abandonrz 11 годин тому

Depends on your goals, if you want to go into figure skating with jumps, then no. The soft skate is a rec skate. Jackson Elles, Risport Scott Hamilton (or Venus in EU), and Riedell Diamond (or strides) are good entry figure skating boots that all come with blades attached that could last you a while depending on how fast you progress.
