Brees is one of the most productive QBs ever. Brees retired as the NFL's all-time passing leader with 80,358 yards, and his 571 touchdowns only trailed Tom Brady. Brees landed the AP Offensive Player of the Year twice, five AP All-Pro honors and 13 Pro Bowl trips during his time with the San Diego Chargers and New Orleans Saints. But he finished second in MVP voting four times.

One QB you left out with 4 Superbowls & some of the best stats of his era, was Joe Montana who also had 2 MVPs.
It's wild when you try and compare older players, their stats are way way worse.
Montana had 40,551 yards and 273 TD's
Brees doubled him up with 80,358 and 571 TD

Kinda like how Nolan Ryan never won a Cy young, it's just bad politics. Drew Brees was clinically underrated because New Orleans had a small media market especially right after Katrina and the team was in Texas. I live just up the road from Bay St. Louis and this whole area was destroyed and we didn't have electricity for 5 weeks. Everyone who could was working to clear the roads of trees during the eye of the storm, Katrina was so big it took an hour for the eye to pass over because we were directly in the center of the path. I remember watching the first game back in New Orleans when Gleason blocked that punt it was electric and I still get goosebumps just thinking about it. The only play in the history of the franchise that could top that was the onside kick in the Super Bowl.

Brees had an amazing career. In the end, it could have been significantly worse with a key loss or two, and significantly better with a key win or two. But that's as fair as the NFL can be. He had many chances, went all the way once, and had left because his arm was failing, not because his play was dipping.
If it wasn't for the injuries, he had a couple more years in him. Guy just couldn't throw at the end
I think that if you look at stats in the context of circumstances, Brees is the undeniable GOAT. He is better than Brady in every way. The only thing Brady had over Brees was superbowls which is not a qb stat, unless contextualized (what Tom's team and division looked like throughout his career vs Brees), and amount of years played. Playing some extra years Brady passed up Brees in career passing yards and TDs, but the yds/g , completion % (game, year, and career), TDs/g (i.e., all of the stats that show consistent greatness) are still all in favor of Brees. This isn't even mentioning the rediculous amount of records that Brees holds like the most 5000+ yrd seasons (5) & the most consecutive 5000+ yrd seasons (3), most 400+ yrd, & 300+ yrd games (#2 in 500+ & 200+). What is the arguement against Brees? The GOAT conversation is not about who was the most sucessful qb in NFL history; that would be Tom Brady because of the Superbowls. Rather it is about who is the most talented qb in NFL history, which can be no one else but Drew Brees. Maybe Patrick Mahomes might pass him up but that is an assumption that the new generation of qb's will last as long as the pocket passers, which seems unlikely.

Drew had some of the worst defenses in actual NFL history. The lost to the niners in 2013, “The beast mode” run in 2011, to the 7-9 Seahawks btw. Even when it was good it was bad 2017 Minnesota Miracle. Defense wasn’t even good the year we won the Super Bowl, just a lot of turnovers. The defense was ranked like 25th 😂
I got to disagree with you on how the MVP is picked now it’s still just like it was back in the day if you’re the media darling then you get picked otherwise Lamar Jackson would have not had the MVP this year

I can think of one big one
In 2009, that clown Peter King, formerly of SI back when they were ostensibly a real sports news organization and not a fan blog site, went on tv and proclaimed he was voting for Peyton Manning for MVP and Drew Brees for Offensive Player of the Year. I think the other voters took their cue from King.
But let's examine the logic at play here. If Brees is an offensive player and Manning is an offensive player, but Brees is the better offensive player then how can you vote for Manning as MVP? Did he play defense? Maybe Manning made more tackles on his INT's since he had more tackling opportunities, having thrown more picks. Maybe there is some unwritten rule you can't give the same player both awards.
Then, debating what would happen with other team fans, they were like, yeah, but you guys are only winning because of all those INT's you're getting. You're not picking off the great Peyton Manning. Seriously, that was the argument. The guy who was averaging 15 INT's a year at that point wasn't gonna throw one against the Saints in the Superbowl. I guess Tracy Porter never got that memo.
I don't know if you can really "win" MVP. It's an award that gets awarded to you, not something you win, not like winning the Superbowl or winning a foot race. What was cool about Payton was when he handed the Lombardi Trophy to Brees after the game, he called him, "the real MVP of our league". Petty Sean Payton was the best version of Sean Payton.
Reasons I think Drew Brees didn't win the NFL MVP are 1. He was overshadowed, 2. He was on a team that is not a cultural winning team. 3. He didn't have what was considered the size, height and arm cannon for a QB and 4. Both NFL and in general football analysts talk down on him and don't give him respect and credit on how he played, his achievements, especially his career.
