This almost made me cry because I was always told and my parents were told “your daughter is very smart, but she daydreams a lot and can’t focus” and that was always seen as a problem. At one point I was considered “gifted” and as I got older I averaged out academically and I was no longer considered gifted and it felt like part of my value and worth was gone. 😢and over the years my creativity has dwindled away. I’m going to do everything I can to make sure my kids don’t experience this. 🙏
I clicked this video because the day we began homeschooling again after an extended christmas/sickness break, i was wondering if this is even what i should be doing because of how upset my daughter was getting with her work. I found this video and others like it which gave me the encouragement I needed, but had only listened to others until today. I just listened to this while doing laundry and looked at the video at the end to see the book you were talking about. I actually have it! I got it for free at a homeschool convention for taking a picture of it and sharing it on social media. Admittedly, I have only completed one page in it - the coloring page of the mother holding her child. I absolutely love that picture! I colored it and framed it. Long story short, looks like I need to go back and reopen that book thats been gathering dust on the shelf! Thanks for sharing your wisdom. Blessings to you and your family ❤
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and vision. I was homeschooled but it was school at home. That it was what I have mostly replicated for my kids and it isn’t how I want us to live our lives, but feel lost on how to break free. Thank you!
I’m 42. I was homeschooled 9-12th grade. I totally remember that magazine. I was obsessed. lol. My parents didn’t really know what they were doing they just knew they didn’t like school anymore. I also basically homeschooled myself. It was awesome. I was pretty much only interested in theology. They let me run with that and I am so thankful. My husband and I now have 9 kids 19-7 months. We have always homeschooled. Your podcast has given me the encouragement I need to get back to the way I’ve always wanted to homeschool. Thank you.
Homeschooling was the best decision we’ve ever made for our kiddos! We started when my youngest was entering second and my twins were entering 6th. Fun-schooling was the second best decision we made! The first couple years were so hard and changing to Fun-schooling brought the JOY back into learning… my kids love learning now and are more curious than ever.. they are now juniors and a sixth grader.. and thriving.. the maturity and knowledge that they carry from taking control of their own education is truly amazing.. Thank You!!!
Sarah, I loved hearing your story! We have used many of your journals in the last 7 years homeschooling and just bought one for next year, as well. You have contributed joy to our homeschool!
I am moved by your story. Thank you for sharing your experience, your passion and the magic there is to truly learning…I am a teacher and homeschooled my own kids for the first years of their life. I still value all of this inspiration and love of learning and want to do more about it..thank you❤
Sarah, aren’t you basically a space camp director now? We co op members had better step it up lol let me know when you create the zero gravity room at the farm because I will train! Your story is inspiring, your interests fascinating, and also familiar…. I also had a pivotal 3rd grade- but it came from a teacher that shut down my business. It would have been such a different life had my teacher leaned in, as the librarian did, but I don’t think our public school teachers are given that freedom of thought or space to connect the dots. I squished into the public school box and abandoned my natural entrepreneurial / writing / editorial skills until adulthood. …No regrets lol If anyone is interested, the biz was I had been producing a magazine featuring friend’s writings and drawings, using my mom’s work copy machine, selling them for 75 cents. And in the back were ads for my homemade lotions. Our school principal decided that entrepreneurship of any kind, especially the reselling of beanie babies (a different kid’s business not mine) was distracting from curriculum, and exchange of money in classrooms was not allowed. (But we could still buy dumb plastic mass produced stuff from the school store!) Now I basically do that same thing ( @morningmiracleschallenge ) I am still that 3rd grade girl. So grateful God scooped me up and gave me direction when the world wanted to discourage, squash and snuff the fire. So cool to learn about your journey. Thank you for creating these videos!
