i mean thrusting with spears is also forbidden but it happens nonstop, my gf even got lanced right next to her eye in the last battle.. and a woman next to me got an eye shot from a crossbow and had to be carried off field
For safety reasons. You dont have to own a helmet but 1st helmets look good and 2nd stuff still happens in a fight in close quarters. So if you want to be sure you should wear a helmet
It's not about the rules, because it's not a sport and it's not about winning. It is roleplay. Therefore even the armour is first and foremost a costume. And a knight looks way more like a knight if he has a knightly helmet. Hats are important for costumes.
They help protecting plus.... Archers might fire indirect and you don't wanna get that arrows in 'da Face' so to speak ^^

It looks cool, provides shade and safety and you get +2 on the whole armor
Because the very capable archers will still hit you in the face 7/10 times...
