This is the best looking watch ever made in my opinion. It's a close race with the vintage Rolex Big Crown, but this takes the cake. It's impossible to explain to a young person who wears smart watches or no watch at all these days how influential this watch was in the 90's and 00's. Every guy wanted one. Watches were a statement and status piece, and this was the king of the mainstream. Glad to see it's more out of the limelight now. Makes it more appreciated.
Totally agree! I remember seeing this watch in Goldeneye and looking at it in the boutique window as a kid and thinking one day I'll own one. And now I do!
@@brettsambrook Oh, I see. Good luck. My two grandpas have died before I was even one year old lmao, it is what it is... Just found out by my mom that her dad had a Seiko, I don't know what model it was, but I wish I had it, something sentimental, a "piece" from him. Keep it close to your heart, don't lose it. Have a good one 👍🏼
Sometimes I wonder why they gave Brosnan the quartz in Goldeneye, but for all his other Bond movies after Goldeneye, they changed it to the automatic one.
Goldeneye was a decision made independently by the costume designer because they knew some ex-Royal Navy men, and anecdotally they wore Omegas when they were in, not Rolex. Quartz also makes more sense for someone doing Bond's job. Omega had nothing to do with that specific movie. For the later movies, I believe Omega paid to keep Bond using their product, and the autos were more expensive than the quartz models. Therefore they likely provided the automatic chronometer versions to try and drive sales of those models. Funnily enough, history has gone to show that the Omega Cal. 1538 in these is practically bomb-proof, and even 25 years later are outstandingly reliable, even for quartz movements. It's not hard to find accounts of them running flawlessly without servicing since being bought new in the 1990s. That costume designer on Goldeneye 100% made the right call it seems to me. Bond influence or not, I've even seen some of the armed police around London wearing obviously well-used Seamaster 300Ms more often that you'd think!
@@NeonMako Fun fact. Sean Connery as James Bond was wearing Rolex watches! Indeed my favorite Bond actor Pierce Brosnan was the first to wear an Omega Seamaster. 😇
Just ordered my 2541.80. Can't wait! One question guys, do you think omega can replace and put in a brand new movement into my new watch? Its 25 years old, and would be nice to give it a lift and restore it
This watch is growing a lot of hype in 2024, especially the 36mm midsize with the blue Bezel. They go live on a website & in most cases sold a few hours later. Grab yourself one now before price sky rockets
It was price, and ignorance at auto V quartz that did it for me. Would I buy a quartz now, no, but that is a tad snobbish of me. Still a fantastic looking, timeless, accurate, class watch!
Thanks for this discussion piece, really enjoyed the format. I’m in Glasgow, so nice to hear some Scottish voices for a change. Added the SMP 300 Co-Axial to my collection in 2019. Much prefer the classic styling of this watch to the current iteration, which is slightly too big for my wrist. The bezel font also seemed a bit ‘cartoonish’ on the counter top alongside the contemporary Submariner.
Is yours a Quartz movement????????? Mine moves in a tick, tick...... type of fashion,,, at 28 800 BPM. Love ur vids, love the accent!! Gave it a like.. RE
Kicking myself because I saw one a long time ago in a jewellers in Newcastle. I wanted it so bad but it wasn’t long after I had spent £500 on a Raymond Weil half price in a sale on 0% so I did not want any more debt. The right decision at the time but DRAT & DOUBLE DRAT Mutley! ( you really have to be an old git like me to get that one) 😆

I got my first SMP in 2002.
Great watch a true a one and done .
Back then and now.
Wish the current gen wasn't 42m. It may only be up 1mm but for some reason looks and feels so much bigger on the wrist
Biggest difference is the new one with 14mm thick vs only 11mm for this one.
These just don’t age. They have kept so much better than the Bond movies themselves.
I had one of these, and recently gave it to my son. Mine had been through Wars, literally , it handled dusty environments well.
My dad handed his down to me. He's gone now and i'm saving up for a full service, it's the most important item I own. And a most beautiful item too.
@@brettsambrook May he rest in peace. Have you serviced the watch?
@@almog3875 thanks Almog. Not yet , waiting for the battery warning and then it’s going in for the works 👍

Really like the format. Mellow, conversational, and all eyes on the subject of conversation. Really nice work, Ricky.
Great video. Had mines since 1998 - still looks as good to me as the day I bought it 😍
Iconic. Simple. Beautiful.
Very chilled out review., easy watching/listening.,, top work 👌🏻
There are a few quartz watches that I can forgive, this one is cool in my book.
Yes indeed
Great vid fellas. Thanks for the shout out, Davey boy.

Good point
I believe these only came as quartz to being with

Quartz makes more sense for Bond, its tougher and more accurate than an automatic.
Just looks brilliant in every way, the newer versions are watches generated and issues passed to owners.
Amazing footage! Thanks for another great video!

Had mine since 2002 got small issue with it but I love it
Beautiful watch but only Automatic for me. Can't handle how the seconds hand misses the marks 😨😞

"Why is my zip coming down?", Ha! Priceless! :D
If it's good enough for Prince William it will do for me lol
Hi what would be the reference number on this exact model?

A nice nod to meat spin Rikki 😂
Lovely piece, far better size than current version.
I have it n i love it

the newer versions look cheap. i like this fist bond seamaster but 2264.50.00 for the win!
Suggestion there that mechanical is better... Really? Whys that?
I can vouch that the second hand had a red tip. Over time can lose its colour and fade.
Hi guys, Adrian just turned me on to your channel. Looking forward to watching your content.
Thanks for checking us out
Patina. Come on. You've looked after it. Stop talking pish.
Nicely done.
But it's not Scottish, so it's crap!!!
