    Hi boys loving your videos been really helpful. Just something I found on the arches of the 2020 defender, those white retaining clips if you stick your hand behind the arch lining and push them from behind they pop out without breaking. And where the push studs are use a flat trim tool and push on those and they pop out to. Keep up the videos boys 👍👍👍👍

    In LR's offical video titled "Reliability" they have mentioned "monocoque structure with steel subframe", so far I haven't seen anyone bothered to find out what that steel subframe is and how much/likely it will improve the much debated unibody monocoque structure but some say it's a semi ladder frame. If you can shed some light on that in your next video I'm sure lots will benefit from it!! Cheers mate

    Interesting video as usual. Two schools of thought here, the advantage of repairing small "bumps" at home but the downside of replacing many expensive parts due to a larger impact. Although if I had to choose as a pedestrian being hit by one of these or the old Defender, the answer is obvious.

    Well, with removing the grill and headlight surround, your about a 1/4 of the way from installing the front LR metal skid plate.
    To continue installing the metal skid plate, remove the 5 screws from along the top of the bumper cover (exactly the same as the one for the headlight surround). Then remove the forward section of the wheel well cover by removing the 4 Phillips screws and the 3 push clips. Once the forward plastic liner is removed, fold the tab out (one of the Phillips screws when through the tab). There are 4 screws along the bottom of the cover (torque screws with large washers... screw is same size used to remove the 4 at the top of the grill) Then with someone helping, give a good yank on either end of the bumper cover where the metal fender meets the plastic cover. Then, remove the brake ducts (2 push clips each), remove the push clip for the coolant hose from the metal bracket (the hole just below the one used for the brake duct), remove the 2 13mm bolts (they go up from the bottom behind the bracket and these can be discarded as there are new ones in the skid plate kit) and the two lower front facing 15mm bolts. Keep the 2 15mm bolts to reuse. Remove and discard bracket. Also remove the 2 15mm bolts from the existing lower skid plate and discard.
    Install the new bracket with supplied hardware. Reinstall the front bumper cover. Install the metal skid plate and secure with new hardware (two torx head bolts go to the front, the longer 13mm head size bolts go at the very bottom (where you removed the front bolts from the existing lower skid plate). Reinstall headlight surrounding, grill and finish cover.

    I’m putting in a plea for you to design a replacement bottom panel shroud (the black plastic bit below the silver lower grille) to leave the front towing eye accessible. I was considering taking a Dremel to mine but a replacement part would be better.
    At the point at which you need to access the front towing eye off road, there’s no way you’d be able to unscrew the metal bolts that hold it on.

    How to wreck a new defender one flimsy plastic bit at a time! Land rover are so far removed from their roots that they only know how to design plastic parts for luxury cars. It could have been brought up to date with plastic parts but held together with say push rivets that had a landrover logo on the top like a lego brick stud. It could have been a design feature, You could remove the parts and if any fixing broke it would be a rivet that you could replace rather than an integral part like the edge of the trim panel which is never going to be the same once you have broken the clips.

  • @andicog
    @andicog 4 роки тому

    You can see, one minor bump and all those little plastic bits will need replacing , headlight looks quality if you like Airfix kits. It's just another modern car now, why have JLR done this? Turned a light commercial truck into a plastic suv, my prediction is that it will go the way of Disco 3 , bargain basement overcomplicated, unreliable used car, at least the Disco 3 was good looking.

    • @tonypacke6954
      @tonypacke6954 4 роки тому

      The problem is Joe public won't want to drive a light commercial truck in the sort of numbers that make any money. The American market will be huge for this vehicle, even though it already has a name for unreliability in that country. The Grenadier may be a more suitable platform for purists but whether they can sell enough to make it viable will be something to watch in the future.

    • @andicog
      @andicog 4 роки тому +1

      @@tonypacke6954 realise it will sell but don't see its point. Buy a Disco or RR if you need this luxury. Mercedes still manage to sell plenty of G wagon proffesional models, loved the look of the Grenadier and have followed it from day 1, however the BMW engine and Mercedes development (yes that's probably good) sort of puts me off, a simpler Iveco or Isuzu engine would have been cheaper and easier to fix and easier to get parts for. Add now the chance its being built in France and it no longer interests me.

    • @tonypacke6954
      @tonypacke6954 4 роки тому +1

      @@andicog Yes I agree, an Iveco lump would have been ideal power unit for the Grenadier. A lot easier to fix in some shit hole rather than a over complicated BMW engine that will need a laptop before you can do anything with it. Land Rover have always confused me with their product line-up with various models having similar features with the total cost being the decider for choice. I think LR thought all this through and decided they didn't have the money to make this a bespoke vehicle with arguable limited sales and in the end the media drove them to produce yet another clone to add to their range. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but looking at what they have now produced it would have been a better proposition to re- engineer the airbag / emission / crash protection from the Puma to make only superficial cosmetic changes and continue with the basic construction.
