Thank you for sharing this, and not for watering down what happened to hawaii, especially with the odd parallels to what’s happening to the mainland these days. It is actually kind of hard to find information on this. Music is beautiful

This was beautiful. Mahalo for presenting such a good episode. Ku'uipo Kumakahi always sings and plays the best of Hawaiian music.

Beautiful palace. It’s so heartbreaking the Hawaiian Royal family was overthrown.

This is a sad history and one that every child needs to learn in school every school in the USA. I took 4 years of history in HS and in univ and never learned this!

2:10 Timestamp. Yes, Iolani Palace did in fact have electricity before the White House but why did you not mention where the equipment came from?
A turbine was manufactured by Leffel & Co., in Springfield Ohio, dynamos came from the Thomas-Houston Co., in Massachusetts, and piping and valves from Ridson Ironworks in San Francisco.

Aloha What achievement by the Hawaiian Kingdom am I trying to diminish auntie? I said it’s true, that Iolani Palace had electricity before the White House.
If acknowledging where the equipment came from is pushing basic supremacy 101 BS, what type of basic supremacy 101 BS are some Hawaiians pushing, when they say Iolani Palace had electricity before the White House?

I think it goes to show how liked and respected the king was to receive the technology before they installed it in the US capitol.

as someone with one parent that's from southern africa. I can relate to the exact same cultural beliefs. Lots and lots of similarities there. Africa gave birth to Native americans , probably first. so it makes sense
