Way to not show a replay of even just the tackle. Excellence in broadcasting 🤣
Add that to a substandard announcing team, and you get women’s sports

Lazy much? It's on youtube? Just rewind it. Play it back as many times as you want to. "do it for me, i'm too lazy.....waaaaahh....."
@@basic_r You sound like a communist who disagrees with everyone out of spite. I bet you’re rooting for the Ukraine in the war
Freeze it at :35 seconds folks, she was giving the opposing team the double finger right on the camera, and right in front of the referee. She basically kicked herself out of the game with that brilliant move.
00:35 Great observation ... you can clearly see the ref was reaching out for the yellow card in her right pocket but changed her mind after the player's double finger gesture.
That's exactly right. Ironic that a Duke player would do something so STUPID. Not even 1 minute into the game too. The rivalry clearly guided her reaction there. Great job, ref!
45 minutes into game
@@stefanthornberry3838 oh yeah, my bad.
wow!, hawkeye!
That Ref was in control, and having none of it.
Definately more in control than the players with the ball🤣
After the foul, the Duke player gives double middle fingers to the player she tackled. That’s taunting - 2 fouls on the same play. Play it back on a slower speed to see the taunt. Referee was right.
It was the correct decision. Not often you see the double middle fingers after a tackle.
I don't see it even after rewinding. But a good call by the referee
@@FCChelsea91 @35sec when the cut to the shot of the ref
@@mitchsweeney6937 Ah. Thank you.
@@FCChelsea91 glasses or contacts i saw it first time without slowing down though i didnt think she got booked for it. lol well deserved typical duke coach should be ticked even if in last place thats not sporty.... thought women were better then males at things like sportsmanship.
Not sure why this is "crazy" or controversial. Taunting is a straight red card in NCAA Rules of Competition, and an easy call by the experienced center official. Defender takes out attacker with the tactical foul then throws up two middle fingers as she moves into position.
Crazy that in this type of pressure situation the player made a terrible decision.
@@visionsports4892 thanks for the clarification, and I agree completely. and thanks for posting this content. Helps officials and the public better understand the laws!
And in a rivalry, tournament game like this, ref has to lay down the law.
taunting is weak, no need for a red card and thats a dumb rule. but 2 fingers is unprofessional and deserving of a red card.
@@visionsports4892 Because players ALWAYS make great decisions? Lol
How on earth did she think that she was going to get away with it right in front of the referee?😂
And she looks stunned. This girl is ridiculous.
"Two middle fingers, one red card" 😂
LOL!
Were they lubricated?

@@CalvinClassic-ht4ow LOL!! Hardcore level 8, if only if it was wrapped with sandpaper.
You can just catch the end of it at 0:35 for those as confused as I was.
look at 0:34
A double flip of the bird to the opposing team's bench is enough to earn a straight red by itself, nevermind the tactical foul that preceded it.
You don't see the double too much these days, she must be an old soul 😊
I hadn't seen the double bird in a long time.
Amber Brooks did it in NWSL...
But not old enough to know about peace, love and Bobby Sherman.
I love how the ref immediately goes “and I’ll explain it”
Referee got it right. This kind of dissing is forbidden and will destroy the entire sport if not dealt with. See ya.
destroy the entire sport? Do you have any knowledge of what´s happening in the leagues in Europe with ownership? Primarly Premier League? Now that is a real threat to football.
Agreed. I think it was the right call.
Wow thanks for all the replays!
We need this ref in MLS. Keeps control of the game and explains to the players what’s going on. Superb job. 👏🏼
Back in the 90's there was an Italian Serie A game involving Roma. Their goalie took a goal kick when the ball was moving. The referee blew for the infringement. Showed him a yellow card for it. And the goalie sarcastically clapped the ref for doing that. He got another yellow for dissent. Thus one red.
Rooney also got a 2nd yellow for clapping in the ref's face for his first yellow - and got a 2nd immediately and sent off
It would be interesting to see this game, as the yellow for the goal kick seems harsh without context. But if it was deemed deliberate delay of restart or the ref had warned him about it several times before that may explain it.
For the ones that you cant figured it out.
The referee was going to issue a caution for the foul.
As she walks forward towards the player to produce it the player has out 2 middle fingers which in school football its a straight red.
In any football game that's a straight red.
This is not unbelievable, good call by the reff. I’ve seen too many american football, and it’s so entertaining and funny how it’s played, I’ve seen plays that even me and my friends do better in our sunday league lol
0:35 I do believe it. That ref took her two middle fingers and put them where they belong, off the field. 🤣
Nice camera work we really got to see a lot of details in the slow motion replays.,..
0:34 the perpetrator showing double middle finger. I had to scroll through comments to find out what happened.
I don't say this often, but good call, ref!!
I had to do my OWN REPLAY.. Coz the video editors were to Lazy. 😂
Yes it was a deserved RED CARD, she grabbed her from the shoulders and took her down (YELLOW card) but once she threw up the bird with both hands.. That was a STRAIGHT RED.
If you read the ref’s lips when the other Duke players run up to her, she says something like “I’ll explain - she turned around and flipped the middle finger”
Even the UNC player is like "whaat?"
0:35 double bird
The stadium announcer actually did a count down to the half time whistle?! 😂😂😂😂 that is just so American, what if the ref added more time?😂
It's also a very unamerican question to ask that what if with all the sarcastic 😂😂😂 bc the ref stops the scoreboard clock with an x signal of the arms. Honestly some prefer it this way bc no bs guessing is it 4 minutes or 4 plus however long ref wants to add for this next shot to happen. It's not all American soccer. This is NCAA. As a % of all soccer played, the real time clock probably accounts for less than 10% in the U.S.
There is no "added time" in NCAA soccer. The referee stops the clock after a goal is scored and on other appropriate occasions. When the clock reaches zero (it counts down in the NCAA), the half is over, full stop. But as the other guy notes, at least you know when the game is going to be over.
This is a clear Red card situation. Dangerous tackle, no chance to take the ball. But I talk about football, not soccer…. Never seen a countdown to take the time!
Not for the reason you’re saying - it was a tactical foul to break the transition play which honestly are part of game play these days.
Not even necessarily a yellow every time depending on the foul (looks like she just pulled her down) unless there’s accumulation
The red is for her flipping off the player after
She was reaching for the yellow at first than changed her mind after she saw what Maggie Graham did after the play.
Correct call. Clear yellow for tackle from behind with no attempt on the ball. I wouldn't mind red for that because I hate tactical fouls for stopping counters. Double birds is probably a straight red anyway and icing on the cake.
Would an instant replay be too much to ask for?
Oh, wow! I saw the hair pull. Now it makes more sense why the red card came out.
Red card! for the middle finger wow! J/K sounds about right.
I absolutely love that straight RED ..... sweet.
I don't like the count down to the end of the half which means the Ref is no in control of the game. The Ref may have added time on for the stoppage for the red card which is moot now. Plus players know they can mess with time because it is not the Ref calling the half or game.
Looks like the coach is giving her sympathy. Bad move. I love it when coaches just completely ignore the ejected player as if to say 'you've let your team down, get out of here'.
she was channeling some stone cold steve austin! LOL
About right for Duke players.
The coach said it was first red any of his players have recieved in his 22 years at Duke. I hate duke too, but respect that.
the quality of football on display here is quite something.
0:35 double middle finger. Bye bye. And she is clueless why she is booted off the field. 🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️…
Grayson Allen and Christian Lattener would be proud
A red for the tackle would have been far too harsh. But if you freeze at 0:34 you'll see a double middle finger which explains it.
Wow, that stadium announcer loves to talk
I think more investment is needed - light blue against dark blue! Stump up the cash for an away strip!
Good call ref.
Where's the replay, so the audience can see it again? A moment like that would warrant a replay.
Probably because of the obscenity
There was no replay bc acc network is televised so no way they'd replay it. But on youtube, just go to :34 and hit play and just keep doing it until you have seen enough
More soccer matches should employ that rule.
Dissent should be quickly and harshly dealt with
Good job Ref.
For it to be applied more, it would have to happen more, so I can't agree. Technically this isn't dissent, it's an "obscene gesture". She wasn't doing it to the ref.
0:34
If she didn’t flick off the team/crowd I say yellow is appropriate here.
Someone said something stupid and She lost control of her emotions which happens to everyone. Just gotta hold that stuff down moving forward. 🏆
Hope she rebounds well and puts this behind her
i thought the replay was helpful.
at 35 secs if you pause you clearly see what the ref sees and it is two big middle fingers to the other player resulting in a straight red card for foul and abusive behaviour
You can hear women complaining 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow how classy.
She flips off the other team (35 seconds) and then acts all innocent.
No bs from the ref. Even without the middle fingers, which I didn't even notice until the comments. No attempt to play the ball, yanking an opponent by the neck. Unsportsmanlike and wreckless. Definitely a soft red but still valid IMO
Nah, the red card was for the middle fingers. The challenge was for a yellow card, but no single referee in the world would have given a red card for that alone.
It was basically a double yellow. The takedown was definitely a yellow. As was the double bird.
... and that, ladies and gentleman, is why we use our WORDS to enrage our opponents-- not highly visible public displays of unsportsmanlike behavior that refs can clearly see. Or wait until there's a corner and then step on toes/throw a sneaky punch like a normal player.
Dirty tackle and double bird. Easiest red ever.
Technically two yellows in a fraction of a minute to be technically correct. IMHO.
What was that countdown
That's ridiculous
Imagine carding someone for hurty words
great reffing
Who tf plays a game blue vs blue?!? 🙄
Good referee 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
Good job ref. 19 flipped someone off.
Fingers are straight red??? Games gone soft.
Clear red card. Offensive/insulting gesture is a dismissal
Yo this game and tactics are making me sick
Essentially two yellow cards back to back
Whys the clock going down not up 😅
Why is the clock stopping after a foul?? What sport is this?!
Any tackle from behind in front of refhas possibility of red depending on severity. To act surprised by the call is so childish and unprofessional. Off the field if you can't play by the rules.
Wish they would have shown the play over. The initial foul deserves a yellow card. But if there was taunting after then red card.
ua-cam.com/video/7em3gaS8JAw/v-deo.html
At 35 seconds you can see the tail end of her clear taunt
Never would've guessed a Duke player named Maggie would be a thug
who won?
What is going on with the timer. This is defitinely American Football 😅
The clock counts down and stops when play stops? What is that nonsense?
Ref definitely had UNC money line 🤣
The ref was literally in the right. The Duke girl flipped off the unc girl…
Show a replay of the incident
Good call ref ! But lay stupid games WIN stupid prizes
Losing the ball in midfield wasn't enough, you go ahead and get red carded 👍
Why is the clock going down and stopping? Isn't that supposed to be a soccer match?
This referee is more incompetent than all referees in Brazil put together.
Based on the description of the incident, there is absolutely nothing crazy about the card at all. In fact, it would be crazy if the 🟥 wasn’t given.
Correct it was a red card all day. I just couldn't believe the player would do this with a few minutes left to go for halftime and hurt their team with a normal foul. Ref had no option.
Why is the announcer giving a countdown? Referee keeps the time, any other clock is just a nice to have…
Double birds at 34 second mark...theres your red card
Why tf is the clock going down?
The middle fingers earn her that red card; She made a big mistake. The foul isn't even worth a yellow card, she's not the last defenser. She does a foul on her oppononent and gives her the middle finger ? She deserves that red card. Stupid way to leave your teammate and a semi final.
I get that this is the right call and completely boneheaded move by the player, but it's still tough to see someone get ejected in a huge game like this semifinal. It would be like someone getting ejected in the final four. Hard not to feel for them but again, it's completely on the player for losing their cool and doing something this dumb. Just hope they aren't a senior and have their college career end like this.
what is the point of this video when you dont actually see whats supposed to have happened?
Why is the clock counting down?
US college (and secondary school) use a countdown clock instead of the referee keeping the only time. Referee signals when to stop & start.
That’s so dumb
I like it better. Stopwatches have been around for a long time. Less subjectivity.
Watching this video reminded me how slow, boring & poor quality womens soccer is…..
Excellent,we’ve been told for ages that women’s football players don’t behave like their male counterparts and from what I’ve seen lately they certainly do. This needs continuing and transferring to the men’s game, enough of bad sportsmanship, rudeness and frankly atrocious behaviour and it is a terrible example for young people!
Women's game is composed of 50% skill 50% emotions to compensate.
algorythms are good at creating false impressions, especially for those prone to confirmation bias. This game, for instance is already 7 months old and they are still reposting the byu v new mexico incident from like 15 years ago and getting plenty of "I hope they suspend her for life" from both grandma and grandpa alike.
Middle finger is never a red in elite soccer may e in a middle school game
Two yellows or one red - same thing. She shot herself in the foot...
Foul then dissent
Deserved.
Would have been nice to actually show us the alleged foul and aftermath
Not really the kind of foul you can show on replay. Pause at 35 sec and you'll get it. She flashed two aces. Immediate ejection.
That is a foul
Personal emotion shouldn't be affect by game. Only game rule system matter. Taunting is personal. Foul is game rule. Is this foul deserve yellow or red? But this finger taunt don't deserve either cards
Double bird 🦅
Clear red card, from behind and double foul, she first grabs and when player does not stop or go down, she mows her down. To me, the ref got it right (but there is no replay)
why the fuck do they stop time what game is this
