Do they go outside on warm days that’s above 60 degrees? Foraging idea- take a large needle like crochet needle and a sturdy line. Use the needle to string different vegetables and fruits and string them in safe place they would have to stretch and and climb to get. I’m sure they would love popcorn strung up especially during Christmas
Hi MeMe! We no longer have days where the temps will be above 60 for any extended period of time. There may be days where the high will be 62 or so, but that's usually for only an hour or so in the afternoons. By the time I get them all 3 outside, it would be time to bring them back in. So, we are done being outside for the year. I'm anxiously waiting for March to come around so we can go back outside! 😄 That's a great idea about stringing some popcorn for them. I'll see what I can come up with to use. Maybe some really thin ribbon would work, something similar to what their Halloween decorations came on. I like that idea! I'll be stringing popcorn soon! I think we may use that as an enrichment activity for our Christmas celebration. Thanks for the great idea! If I remember right, you're the one that gave me the idea of using the wiffle balls quite some time back. We still do those every once in a while.
The boys seem happy that they can be naked in the sunroom from now onwards! They keep jumping on you, may be is their way of saying "thank you" to you! Great job Anna! ❤😊
Hi cbc! That is a great idea about the bees wax. I may try that in the seams of that pergo flooring. I did worry about pee getting through those seams. Although they do click together very tight and are meant to prevent any liquids from seeping through the seams. But, I may use that bees wax as an added measure. Thank you for the idea!! 💜
@@KiarasKorner Hallo Kiara, gerne doch. Habe ich auch gemacht, als meine Katze Probleme mit der Katzentoilette hatte und daneben gepisselt hat. Es zog nichts in die Fliesen und roch auch noch angenehm. Musst Du zwischendurch mal erneuern. Viel Erfolg und Spaß mit den Rackern. Liebe Grüße😻
I'm so happy for you all! I'm sure they are just as happy to go "commando style," as you, no longer have to deal with the whole diaper routine several times a day (x3)! I often hear you mention abt the temperature being too cold for them, and I'm curious about your reference point for "too cold" Africa (generalising), can be quite chilly, especially at night, with temperatures often dropping way below 75°F. I also see many monkeys and apes in captivity at zoos and sanctuaries here in Europe that have access to the outdoors during winter, even on snowy days. 🇸🇪 PS Maybe use a head lamp on those cloudy days?
Hi a2! What I use as a guide for temperature is it has to be at least 60 degrees F, with no wind and lots of sun. After the temps reach 70, it's alright if it's cloudy. But, 60 degrees on a cloudy day is so much colder than 60 degrees on a sunny day. We are now to the point where our temps aren't getting much above 60. I can tell when they are cold because their little hands and feets get cold. And any temps lower than 60 is when I've noticed they are cold.
I've heard that out of the majority of monkeys vervets are one of the best breeds to have as "pets". I know they are not "pets" but would you agree they are one of the best breeds to have around humans?
I actually disagree with that. Vervets are one of the most difficult monkeys to keep as pets. They can get real mean! And they have attitudes a lot. While I have changed my mind over the years in terms of monkeys being pets (its not a good thing for them), New World Monkeys are better as pets. The vervets are Old World Monkeys. All Old World Monkeys are very difficult to keep as pets.
Hi cowgyrl! I got those spaceships off Amazon. They have one in their outdoor enclosure too. They love them! After they ruined a few of the cloth saucer/tent swings I had to find something they couldn't ruin. These spaceships did the trick!
Hi lavon! Yeah, those little containers work great as foraging devices! I don't like to just give them their food. I like to have them work for it a little. I do just hand them special treats because they need to see me giving them the good stuff. I feel it helps our relationship. But, their regular foods are always in some sort of foraging scenario. I really can't use the concrete or the ceramic tiles that are already in place for that flooring. Our winters get so cold and that sunroom isn't insulated. The heater I have in there keeps the room really warm, but not the floor. That's why I initially put carpet down over the ceramic tiles. I was trying to keep the floor area warmer for them since they are on the floor as much as in the raftors. I think I have an idea of how to fix that area without pulling up the entire vinyl flooring. I plan to work on it tomorrow. So, I will show everyone in our next video. Fingers crossed my idea works. I just never know until I try it! 😂
Hi skip! I did wonder if linoleum would be a better choice than the vinyl. As far as replacing that torn spot, well I can't really do that because they will pick at the seams. However, I did come up with an idea last night. I am going to patch that little spot with some spare vinyl flooring and then put a thin sheet of plexiglass over it all and screw it down. That way they can't pick at the seams of the pieced in section. I don't know if it will work, but I'll be doing that this evening and will let everyone know in our next video. I'm definitely keeping that carpet down though. It helps tremendously with keeping the floor from being too cold.
They rarely show any food aggression toward each other. That's because I always make sure I put multiple feeding stations or whatever I'm using for them. If I didn't do that, there would certainly be food aggression between them.
Hi syd! In the past, when they were in the living room for the mornings, they would take a little nap in their hammocks. But, this year with their sunroom being a diaper free zone now, they are in there from the time we get up until it's time for bed. I don't have hammocks in there because I wouldn't be able to easily keep them clean. Maybe I will put a hammock in there and see how it goes. I would just have to take it down and wash it every few days or so. Anyway, they don't take naps in the sunroom or when they are outside. They are wiped by the end of the day! 😂
In the past few videos, it seems like Petey has become more independent and on the other side of the enclosure while Nikko and Harley stay closer to you. Is this a sign of independence part Petey growing into a mature/adult monkey?
Hi Lisa! Petey has always been somewhat of a loner. He goes through short phases of wanting to be alone. Normally it doesn't last more than a day or 2. But, after Harley came to live with us I noticed it happening more often. I think what's going on is Harley has established himself as the Alpha (whereas Petey was the Alpha before Harley came to live with us). And Harley does not let the other boys around me much. Petey is so 'soft-spoken' so to speak and avoids conflict at all costs (he's very much like me). So, he just doesn't bother fighting Harley for time with me. You'll notice in some of our videos how Harley will shew off the other boys when they want to come up to me. This is the main reason I never brought Harley to bed with us. That is the only time Petey and Nikko can be on me without Harley having a fit. Although, interesting bit of info here, Petey has gotten to where one or two nights a week he doesn't want to sleep with me. I'm not sure what's going on with that. It could be that he's gotten older and more independent. But, it could also be because by the time I get their sunroom cleaned and ready for bed myself, Petey is already all snuggled in his hammock and doesn't want to come out. So, I let him decide if he wants to sleep with me or not. Nikko always comes out to go to bed with me, even when he's all snuggled in his hammock.
After 3 months? Oh, you mean what I said in the video that we have another 3 months in the sunroom? That's because the cold weather has moved in and they can't be outside. For about 7 months out of the year, they are in their outdoor enclosure. The rest of the time they have to be indoors because of the cold weather.
Nice to see the sunroom setup. Shame about the vinyl. Although, considering how these guys jump and drop from the air like stones, on top of whenever they drop toys, I could see how it could get dented so quickly. Crazy idea but would something like Astroturf be a good substitute? Just curious, what kind of music do you play for them? Jungle sounds?
Hi Christopher! The astroturf would work great if there were a way for me to spray it off. But, there isn't. I wouldn't be able to clean up the pee very well. So, that won't work for the sunroom. But, thank you for the idea. I often times end up using people's ideas if they will work. I'm still putting some thought into what I'm going to do about the flooring. I've got until they make another hole before I really have to do something about it. Hopefully, I can come up with something else before another hole gets made. 😅
Hi Tricia! When i got each of them, Harley was 3 1/2 years old, Petey was 7 months, and Nikko was 3 months old. Harley is now 4 1/2 years old, petey is 4 years old, and Nikko is 2 years old.
Most of the time! 😂 they do challenge me every once in a while. I don't place much emphasis on who is the alpha. I am more concerned with keeping them healthy and happy. Sometimes that means I don't get my way on things; I have to compromise sometimes. 😊
Hi rose! Their poops are solid, similar to a dog's. Nikko still has stomach issues, so his isn't always solid. I have to make sure I get his cleaned up immediately, or it would make a huge mess if they stepped in it. They don't throw their poop either. The only time they would maybe do that is if they got it on their hands and had to flick it off. But that doesn't happen because I keep up on getting it picked up right away.
I like their Sunnyroom .....🙉🙊🙈🐵 Your monkeys so pretty and cute.xoxo

Linoleum? It’s cheap and easy to clean. OR, can you replace just the broken spot? I’d keep the carpet down though cause it helps insulate e floor.
