The fact that the Religious Right accepted Trump’s claims of being religious, in spite of not being able to quote his favourite parts of the bible, in spite of not being a church going person, in spite of not being involved in any aspects of religious life. i watched the documentary. The pool boy was used, abused, and tricked and then nearly destroyed by the Fallwells.. How horrible this powerful Family is and they should be sued by the pool boy until he takes away their last dime.

Abused is a strong word. He was over 18, so him going to a room alone with her is not to let him off the hook. Pool boy vs intern at the White House are different power dynamics. Resigning as an intern is way different than resigning as a pool boy to a rich Christian couple.

This was a fantastic documentary. I highly recommend it. My favorite part, which I had heard about when it originally happened, was Jr's call-in to the radio show following the 'unzipped' pic. He is completely hammered. His words aren't merely slurred, they are positively sledding, and he's talking to some guys on air who absolutely have to pretend it isn't obvious he's sloshed. They cannot admit what is obvious to anyone who's ever seen or heard a drunk person (i.e., any adult human) and now are forced to help uphold his lie. It is a brief segment, but delicious.
I love it when the ghastly hipocrasies of absurdly rich evangelist preachers are exposed and people can publicly ridicule those who made them rich.
Have you ever seen John Olivers show about this? He calls his "church" Our Lady of Perpetual Exemption.

I'd like to hear more about the damage caused by Christian delusion. I've considered lots of instances where, ironically, the delusion facilitates, if not propagates immorality; vilifying critics, thinking the environment is "in God's hands", science as a conspiracy, homosexuality as evil, men as superior, etc. It can be used to validate any immoral act.
You should read The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer. For me, it explained why they are so dangerous when it comes to life on this planet, let alone a Constitutional Republic or a Representative Democracy.

It's an old story. Sinclair Lewis got a Nobel Prize in Literature for his novels including "Elmer Gantry" (1927).
Have you read Elmer Gantry? It's the story of a womanizer who gives up on becoming a lawyer because it's too ethical. So he becomes a Baptist minister, but gets kicked out of seminary because he shows up too drunk to preach. So he becomes a New Thought evangelist and preacher who preaches against sexual sin, even while he can't resist sexual temptation himself. Gantry is framed by one of his girlfriends, a prostitute who hid a photographer in her brothel, who takes a shot of Gantry and the prostitute "embracing".
It was made into a film in 1960 starring Burt Lancaster. Like I say, it's an old story.

Thanks for the documentary promo. Just watched it now, all of it, straight through. Reminds me a lot of the years at CFNI in Dallas, TX. The campus rules...one of the "leaders" suddenly made a new dress-code rule because they found somewhere in the bible(sic) that a man's legs were displeasing to god(sic). In the heat of summer, guy's were no longer allowed to wear shorts. No surprise now to find out that the upper echelon's were having sexual orgies with their pants ALL the way off. Lots of wife swapping going on, if you had something to trade.

As someone who left the pentecostal church in my late teens, I am glad that I made a conscious decision early on not to become so damaged psychologically and to leave superstition, religion and beliefs in so-called higher beings or energy that I got to enjoy life in a much positive way--through the ups and downs I never had this Christian or any god come to my help, it was always compassionate people regardless of background. These Christians preach one thing and lead a different life. If only they lived what their "savior" preached people like Jerry Falwell wouldn't be where they are or were
