  • I received a package with Fabric from friend, Brittany Allen , From Project runway! I was so inspired by this mustard/ copper abstract cheetah brocade fabric. It gave me People of the capital from Hunger games vibes, so I decided to run with it!
I drafted my pattern using cotton muslin, and my favorite pattern-making ruler by Dritz that is available at Joann, or Amazon!

That will be interesting, it is quite hard to start out with where do i put them and how the patterns are made by scratch, or without buying the patterns. It is lovely process as i usually watch mother doing a paper garment (sorry forgot what's it called) layout that stream cuts the fabrics.

I'll say go for it. Family had discouraged me from doing any Juki sewing machine but I'm will slowly go by hand sewing and personal sewing machine and make it by actually learning and doing them. It takes time even watching the process can ignite a thrive for taking a leap by starting small projects you enjoy.

"I just want to make what inspires me" Words I should live by. I have so many ideas that I am in love with, but because of some health stuff I can't spend much time working on things right now (and before my excuse was little time becof work) so I tell myself that no matter how much I love my idea it's not "practical" it's too "weird" or "no one else will like it but you" So even though I have the fabric and everything ready to actually sew it, I don't. Thanks for in inspiring quote.

Vintage couture dresses, by Worth for example, always had those seams pressed and even sewn down. You know how important it was for those Victorian ladies to have a nice smooth fit. Figure flattering and very slimming but also let you admire the shape of the dress and how it lay on the body. Kudos to you

The little tangent about seam allowance reminded me why I love net patterns so much. Because they're net, I don't have to use a particular seam allowance- I just sketch out the net pattern and cut where I want the seam allowance to be.

As a former fat kid from the 80s and early 90s… I’d have KILLED for a dress like that and a body that fit into it around 91’-92’ 😜😜
At THIS point in my life..
I only can say it’s STUNNING and the design is absolutely the fodder of dreams especially for those of us from those days 😍..
Granted.. I was a complete tomboy and only gave 1/2 a crap about dresses when I was upper class high school age.. because.. boys.. 🙄..
and have probably only owned a dozen dresses in my entire life..
    but..
