  • Ukulele Festival Hawaii (1971-2022), the world's first and original ukulele festival celebrates it's final event after more than 50 years of bringing together thousands of people annually to celebrate Hawaii's instrument of aloha. "Roy Sakuma's dream of showcasing to the world the virtuosity of the ukulele is fulfilled and has served as a springboard for other ukulele festivals throughout the world,” said Jake Shimabukuro. “It is because of Roy and Kathy’s work that the ukulele is embraced and enjoyed worldwide today". Ukulele Festival Hawaii will continue it's charitable purpose of promoting and preserving interest in the ukulele and also supporting college scholarships and youth and organizations in need. Founders, Roy and Kathy Sakuma express “Ukulele Festival Hawaii was made possible due to the overwhelming aloha and support we received, turning this home-grown event into an international gathering of goodwill for everyone. We sincerely thank all of the ‘ukulele manufacturers, performers, entertainers, international groups, students, sponsors, volunteers, ukulele instructors and the entire community of residents and visitors who came out to Kapi‘olani Park year after year to support the Festival.”
