Thank you so much for this and speaking on the loneliness and psychological impact this surgery makes on our lives. I'm 3 weeks past surgery, still in a cast, non weight bearing. I use a knee scooter but yesterday I lost my balance and fell and got pretty banged up. I hope to get in to a boot soon and begin getting somewhat back to normal. My friends and coworkers have not reached out to check on me. My husband acts bothered when I ask for help.My sister had knee surgery 2 days before me, so we talk frequently about our frustrations and progress and that has helped me mentally. Thank you again. I hope you are healing well!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching. It’s a lonely road! That’s why I wanted to make these videos to speak to those people dealing with this injury and let them know that they are not alone. I hope that your recovery improves. Positive vibes.
Thank you for your open and honest video. I am six weeks post surgery. I ruptured mine playing badminton in Malayisa. I'm from the UK and don't have the physical support of my family abroad, so I have hired a carer. My journey has been tougher as I haven't had the physical and emotional support needed to recover. It's been very lonely as I can't leave the flat on my own and I've been isolated. Made worse by not having loved ones around to help me. But trying to be positive. Every physio session I'm getting stronger and stronger and hoping to be able to walk as soon as possible so I can return home happy and healthy. Have to hang in there! Trust the process.
How have you healed? I'm only 5 days in...and the loneliness and sadness is very tough...especially when you can't do anything but lay on a couch or bed. It's very grueling and such a lengthy sad process (especially when I have to miss my whole summer, ontop I can't really see friends or family or do anything, heck can't even go to the grocery store) hoping you healed 100 percent!
Appreciate you sharing the low points so much. It's really validating honestly. People really don't understand how serious this injury is. I'm 2.5 weeks post op now. Thanks so much for sharing your journey. Going through video at a time and realizing this was 3 years ago. Can't wait to see where you're at now!!
I just completed 4th week of post-op today even though I did the surgery on 18th day of ATR due to my negligence 😢. However, I found that the progress post-op is good and encouraging. Stitches removed on third week. Now on removable cast till 6th week and then PT as advised by my doctor. Anyone go thru this situation, pls don't lose hope and it's just matter of time. We all will be coming back to the sports we love gradually... Just follow ur doctors advice completely and give right rest to ur foot till you complete the period of recovery. Good Luck guys!
Two months in, started rough and mentally tough. After week 4 , was able to walk(slowly). Week 8 walking lrettu darn well . Pain wasn't too bad but it was rough initially wish you all speedy and healthy recovery. God bless!! Stay positive. Ps. The knee scooter is a life saver
Watching your whole story now. I'm 3.5 weeks post injury and 1 week post-op. It's my right leg also, so can't drive and no weight bearing for now. The emotional and psychological trouble is very real. I did a LOT around the house. Much of the cleaning, nearly all the cooking, all my laundry and my son's laundry, all the yardwork, repairs, etc. Also take my son to preschool and pick him up every day. Now, I do almost nothing. I cool the best I can but can't even reach the bottom of the dishwasher to unload. It's HARD on me to not be able to do anything and taking occasional naps because I'm hurting that day or even just bored. My wife has picked up the slack but she is super busy on her own and now has all my responsibilities on top of it. I KNOW it's going to wear her out sooner rather than later. It's just torture.
How you healing man? Hopefully 100 percent by now!! I feel everything you said...I'm now 3 weeks post my Achilles rupture. And it sucks feeling isolated, useless, and feeling just down and depressed. Especially when you can't do none of your responsibilities (mowing, trash, work, cleaning, maintaining the cars) you end missing the simple things...even being at work.
Hope your recovery is going well man. I'm on week 4-5 now and I definitely agree with the little wins. The being lonely part definitely does hit at times as well. Thought I was the only one haha. The videos definitely help though. Hope all is well 🤞🏼
Thanks for watching man and I’m glad that you found some joy in the videos. Keep counting up those small wins and staying positive. I would also suggest to check out the Achilles rupture FB group if you haven’t already. Really appreciate this video man. There’s no shame in talking about the struggle, we’re all going through it in some way or another. I’m week 2 and the road looks long, but we all need to support each other.
How you doing now? I'm only 3 weeks in, and this is one saddening journey. It plays with your mind a lot (lonely, isolation, regret, uselessness, etc) and your house becomes a prison, especially since I have stairs everywhere lol
@@Always_Never Hey man, it’s mad looking back at my comments now! I am week 18 and feeling good about my progress. I felt exactly the same as you, really down, trapped, helpless. I also had a DVT in my calf which was quite scary. I live in a first floor flat as well, so stairs were hard. I had my boot off at week 11 and I’ve been slowly seeing improvements over the weeks. Still a slight limp but strength is very slowly growing. It’s still a long road but the mindset improves as it heals and you get more freedom. Keep me updated!
@Joseph-im8be I'm glad your progressing well man, and a DVT is scary...dis you end up going to the ER for that? As I know it can be life threatening and very serious, and how did they treat it? I worry about that, as I've been cramping a lot using the knee scooter (which scares me, as it could cause me to fall) mentally I'm doing a tad better, but still super paranoid about stuff (falling, re rupture, stairs, my dogs getting in the way lol) I know the road to recovery is super long, but man to be normal again sounds so nice

It’s definitely all about the mindset! Also, the mornings are rough! 😂 I wish that I would’ve went the non surgical route, it seems to be less complications that way. Thanks for watching and taking time to comment! ✊🏾

Thanks for the video. I’m glad to know it’s not just me! I’m 4.5 weeks post op, didn’t get that fancy boot you got. The isolation, sleepless nights, random sharp pains and for me the hip and knee pain due to weight of boot sucks. Good to know there is a light at the end of the tunnel!

Man. I’m approaching week 4 now. I feel for you man. Cant believe you’re also having to deal with the post op neuropathic pain and the plantar fasciitis. Cant even imagine. Sucks even more with how the foot has to be in plantar flexion while the achilles heals, all the while thats the position that exacerbates the fasciitis. The comment that not many know of the injury is so true. Doctor showed me photos of the Pars Jig used in surgery - yikes! Thank you for your video series.

This is week 7 for me. Last Thursday I got my cast off after 6 weeks. My foot was still extremely swollen. And I had my 1st major breakdown getting into the boot. It was excruciating. I'm having all the same issues as you. You are not alone. But since being in the boot the swelling has gone down a good bit. And my Dr gave me Gabapentin for the nerve pain. It has been God sent.
That’s good to hear! I had to take a double dose of Gabapentin but it finally did the trick. I hope that you continue to progress and not experience more complications. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I must say, you did not exaggerate or lie about anything with this pain! OMG! I could not sleep last night! Tossed and turned all night! Then I had to wake up and take two percs with a Motrin. The worst part about this is that yesterday after the surgery, I get home and realize I have on a hard cast, so I can’t even ice the area. This is craaaaazy!!! 🤦🏾♂️
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney yep, but it wore off quick, I feel like once I was home for three hours, I was in excruciating pain!!! It was insane! 😱 😩😫🤒🤕
I appreciate your honesty! I am in my 2nd week of recovery. And my cast is driving me crazy. Have two week follow up in two days. Hopefully they will take the cast off. I don’t know if my incision is healed because my cast keeps rubbing on it.
I had plantar fasciitis 6 years ago. Tried to follow the standard exercises, massages. Moved to the tropics, went barefoot and it went away without doing anything special.
Thanks for your honesty!!!! Just had the surgery almost 2wks ago and it has been a battle. Pain management is definitely hard especially because I can feel All the stitches or staples or whatever they used pulling & poking me. It's painfully irritating so I get it.
Amen brother I am at week 8, first four weeks were miserable not being able to get my leg comfortable , grade 3 full tear, no surgery. I am doing very basic walking in the house keeping my leg stiff but it feels good to get the boot off in the evenings! Feels like it will be a year before I am 90% though. Kind of funny I can tell if someone has tore theirs now by looking at their calves…😂
Got mines done Aug 6 2021 and been walking out of the boot for 3 weeks now. Still a little foot pain due to not being on the foot for awhile. Hope you recover smoothly...
Hey Jay, thanks for the videos. They are the only honest ones I’ve seen which actually describe what it is like to go through this. When you add to the fact that I am 70 years old and my balance and strength are not what they used to be when I was younger getting around is especially difficult. I am almost at week five post surgery. I am in a boot, but they are still not letting me put any weight on it. The pain has not been bad for me at all but sleeping has definitely been an issue. I have a physical therapy appointment on Wednesday and hopefully they are going to let me start doing some walking. I already purchased the even up product that you recommended in a previous video. I hope you are doing better Jack
I m five week post surgery. Just when i started to feel better and do good in rehab , i felt while moving and hurt my leg again . I was really not good , doctor stopped my rehab and went through medication and complete immobile state. Now doctor is saying that i can go back to rehab next week. This injury is not easy . May god help
During the first month of my rupture every time I put my foot down I could feel blood rush to my foot, I am at week 8 and it’s not as bad but still poor circulation
I hope that my recovery is going well. I feel no pain. I am not bearing any weight. Haven't seen the doctor. I saw him 2 week after to tell me partial cast for 4 more weeks. He made me buy a walking boot but never told me to use it. The foot is immobilized. Two more weeks to see him. One thing about this.. My wife has been my angel. We. Had a Rocky marriage but she is my queen. She didn't sleep for 10 days with me. Then went to work. Had her aunt take care of me.. Just praying for you bruh. Do the same for me
I had my surgery 1 week ago today. I’m miserable and depressed and I’m not used to being so dependent on others. I really don’t know how anyone goes through this alone. I had to have my son help me get dressed today for my doctors appointment. Lol. 🤦🏻♀️🤣
@@wendyhutchinson457 🤦🏾♂️ it really sucks! You feel like an adult baby! 😂 You also start to feel guilty for everyone having to carry the weight but in a weird way you also improve in so many areas from this injury…weird stuff 😂
I love how honest you were. Would you believe I ruptured both of my Achilles at the same time? I’m going into week three post op and I’m pretty deep in the blues right now with being in a wheel chair and not being able to do much for myself on my own. It honestly sucks and I feel you on the lonely part, but I’m trying to keep positive. Thank you for sharing your story!!

I have the sharp pain as you described but it is not as bad as you described in the video. Feel for you brother! How long it takes you to have foot back to normal position?
Definitely makes it hard to do anything. I don’t remember the exact time frame but it was when I got on this medication that starts with a g. Let’s just say Gabapentin. I took a double dose every 4 hours and that helped.
Stay strong...I'm almost 6 weeks in, and trust me the first 2-3 weeks are the worst...It gets a lot better when you start weight bearing it gets a lot better...mentally I was in a bad place the first couple weeks (won't lie, when my girl had to go to work to bartend...I would sometimes tear up when alone...its gets really depressing being alone and feeling helpless) but man, I assure you it is only the first couple weeks...once I got put in the boot, it got better to start seeing progress. We still got a long ass road ahead though...but it gets better here soon (and looking back when I ruptured June 22nd...time has actually gone by fast...as summer always goes by fast)
@@Always_Neveru def were right. I’m 2 weeks post op and already partial weight bearing. Been working out and using my stationary bike (with a vacoped boot)
@acjei that's amazing man, your doing big things at 2 weeks...that I just started at around 4.5 weeks...so your killing it, man it gets a ton better when you ditch the crutches and can use both hands to do stuff again. I just ditched the crutches about a week ago (ahh will use them on stairs still...as my garage stairs has no railing and scares the shit out of me lol) but it gets better man!
@@Always_Never yea the crutches suck to use. I really stopped using them soon as he told me i could put weight on it (as much as i can tolerate). I use my knee scooter alot though
Hi Jay I just have a question I heard in one of your videos you had a nerve damage I am feeling this now in my weeks 4 and 5 Just feeling as well the pins and needles and the tingling Can you please help me in tell me what you did to help ? Many thanks 😊
Woah, I’m at week 7, it gets better especially when you start therapy. I had my surgery in Houston also and was the PARS method. Once they start doing manual therapy, you’ll feel much better and the pain should reside. Are you taking gabapentin for nerve pain?
I can’t wait to start therapy then! Are you doing your therapy in the Houston area? What is PARS method? Yes, I take Gabapentin but it’s not doing anything! 😭😭😭
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney yessir I’ve been going for a few weeks now and it’s really been a game changer mentally and physically. PARS is the less invasive method, I watched your first video and I saw the scar, similar to mine so I think we had same one. Another thing that helped a lot with swelling management is compression socks. I have some nerves compressed by swelling so I don’t have sensation on one side of my ankle, it’ll come with time. Before you ice and elevate try to do retrograde massage from your toes to your knee to move that fluid around and wiggle your toes as much as possible!
@@jarredadams3502 I may need to look into that place, it sounds like they know what they are doing! Are you in a vacoped boot or a normal boot with wedges? If so, what range are you at or how many wedges?
Hello Jay, You are real as they get. Some people are just only positive and some in the negative mood. I was wondering why you did not take the conservative route. Then you have no complications with an operation and most of the pain is only in the first two weeks. With the vacoped, the chance of tearing it again is even the same as with surgery. I was able to walk without cruthes in six weeks time and could start working on my recovery after 4 weeks. How are you doing now?
Thank you so much for watching and thank you for your positive words! I wasn’t even given the option of the conservative route 😂. Actually, I didn’t even know that there was a non-surgical method until after I had the surgery 🤦🏾♂️😂. I’m doing amazing now! I feel really good. Thanks again!

Thank you! Good luck with surgery and I hope so because it’s been rough…
@@SantownRep did you get a nerve block? Did everything go well?
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney yep, but it wore off quick, I feel like once I was home for three hours, I was in excruciating pain!!! It was insane! 😱 😩😫🤒🤕
@@SantownRep omg! I’m sorry to hear that fam. Did the pain medicine help at all?
I appreciate your honesty! I am in my 2nd week of recovery. And my cast is driving me crazy. Have two week follow up in two days. Hopefully they will take the cast off. I don’t know if my incision is healed because my cast keeps rubbing on it.
I had plantar fasciitis 6 years ago. Tried to follow the standard exercises, massages. Moved to the tropics, went barefoot and it went away without doing anything special.
Hope your recovery went well. I'm in the beginning of week 3. It's not easy. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you so much for watching! It is not easy but it will get better and you will be better mentally, physically, and spiritually from it!
I'm with you on this journey! I'm at about 4.5 weeks post op
You right on point with this! I’m on week 3! God job though man ima subscribe and watch your videos hope your doing great now family
Thanks for your honesty!!!! Just had the surgery almost 2wks ago and it has been a battle. Pain management is definitely hard especially because I can feel All the stitches or staples or whatever they used pulling & poking me. It's painfully irritating so I get it.
Thanks for watching and best of luck with your recovery. It will get better!
Thanks for honesty. I get cast off in 4 days. Looking forward to boot.
Great video man nice that you're real with us, thank you for sharing
Got mines done Aug 6 2021 and been walking out of the boot for 3 weeks now. Still a little foot pain due to not being on the foot for awhile. Hope you recover smoothly...
That’s good man and same to you! 💪🏾
I hope you are doing better
Jack
Going the the very same exact thing at the moment truly rough times can’t wait for months to pass
Be patient, it gets better! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Did your blood go all the way down to your feet when standing?
Do the same for me
How did you find out about the nerve injury? Did the doctors tell you that they damaged your nerve during surgery?
Now im in 4-5 weak and this is sad,but that can i do!Im 42 years old and all my life im training something! Now i have to stay in home and just wait
Thank you for the videos bro. I’m on week 2 now . Is tough but this help
Thank you for watching and I hope that your recovery goes well! 🙏🏾
I'm 3 weeks post op about 2 months into my injury. . Lord it's physical and mental 🙏
Wow, thank you for watching. How did you rupture both?
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney An ex gymnast playing on trampolines and let's just say I stuck the landing. I might have to make my own video and explain lol
@@meganrose2618 OMG! Tag me in it if you post a video.
Hey Jay, I am at week 6 post op, I hope you are doing well now. My foot has 30 degrees contracture right now, using wedges in the boot. I have the sharp pain as you described but it is not as bad as you described in the video. Feel for you brother! How long it takes you to have foot back to normal position?
I’m in the 4-6week phase now and I’m having those on and off late night pains, when did you start to get more sleep?
The nerve damage is the worst I am at this stage now & it makes it hard to function . When did your nerve damage pains get better ?
Definitely makes it hard to do anything. I don’t remember the exact time frame but it was when I got on this medication that starts with a g. Let’s just say Gabapentin. I took a double dose every 4 hours and that helped.
Had surgery today and I’m so nervous on how this recovery process will me 😢
Feel you bro in 2024; it sucks at 4wks. So in 2024, how are you doing?
How are you now???
I had my hip replaced years ago and now just had my Achilles done and it’s way worse for me then the hip was
I’m 4 weeks out
You not alone bro. I'm injured too. If you need someone to talk reach out bro
Appreciate that fam!
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney same injury. none surgical method. Any advice you can offer?
Yes it’s a challenge. I’m into week 4 post op and learning to walk on the boot now. Still need crutches to help balance.
You got this! 💪🏾
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney 🙏😃
Are you getting the blood rush as well?
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney no i am not thankfully.
Thanks for the videos. I’m 4 days post op. Shit def sucks.
Hi Jay
I just have a question
I heard in one of your videos you had a nerve damage
I am feeling this now in my weeks 4 and 5
Just feeling as well the pins and needles and the tingling
Can you please help me in tell me what you did to help ?
And yeah my therapy is at Memorial rehab in Bellaire, right next to where I got surgery
@@jarredadams3502 I may need to look into that place, it sounds like they know what they are doing! Are you in a vacoped boot or a normal boot with wedges? If so, what range are you at or how many wedges?
@@jarredadams3502 I’ve heard that compression socks work wonders!
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney so you can do everything as before? Running, jumping and even sprint? I saw you had many setbacks man? Which place of the Us are you staying?

Did you ever get pains i that area or going into your calf?

It elevated and everything any tips for the coming weeks?
Yea, I didn’t have any pain early on as well. Just try to eat as clean as possible since you aren’t able to move around as much and drink plenty of water. The first two weeks, your pretty much just sitting around in a cast. Not much that you can do.
I have those burning sensation and road rash feeling.🤦🏾♂️(week 7)

Jay you said this sucks. But you didn’t say how much it sucks 😩 I ruptured mine playing basketball on my lunch break.
I’m day 2 post opp. And it’s rough. I got no nerve blocker. Any tips ? Peace ✌️
Well, how do you feel with the nerve blocker? My foot felt paralyzed! I had to snatch that thing out. Are you having any pain?
@@AchillesRuptureRecoveryJourney I got no nerve blocker (that catheter you had in your leg) so I feel the intense sharp pains when moving around on my knee scooter - but low pain when laying still..
Guess my question to you is were you laying on couches for the first 2 weeks? And when did the sharp pains slowly fade away?
