I found a noticeable improvement in sound quality only after using the wired interconnect between the two speakers. Even just running in regular hi-fi mode in tidal, you can notice a lot more base extension, and surprisingly less coarseness in sound quality. I have to wonder if there’s a slight phase shift when only having a wireless connection between the two speakers, which results in sound wave cancellations.
Hello Terry, thanks for sharing your insight. I agree that the sound quality is much better when both speakers are connected with an ethernet cable. This is something I anticipated. I reckon they just added the Wireless option as a gimmick, since there is a lot of demand for it.
I have the originally ls50 wireless and love them :) I was really shocked when a saw the the meta has 100w amps just for the tweeter, surely that has to be there just for marketing, bigger numbers are always better in the customers eyes, if you know what I mean
Hi Ashish, congrats on your purchase. Great speakers, I still like my LS50s a lot. Do you mean the included remote control or the control App for smartphones?
@@AshishBytes Assuming you inserted the batteries correctly, the included remote should work without any further installation. Did you check the orientation of the batteries?
thank you for this video, it is helpful. question for you - mine have a small red plastic tab on each one, sticking up from the back of the speaker - did yours have such tags and did you remove them? just curious if you know anything about it. thanks again
Hi, compare edifier airpulse 300 pro with this, which one is better? Also i saw many complaint the wireless connection is not stable, is it true? Thanks.
Great video. Very informative. Can I just ask, are you using yours permanently wired together and with the master connected to your internet router via Ethernet cable too? I’ve only had mine two days but they keep dropping out all of the time. Very annoying
Hello Ian, thanks for your positive feedback, I appreciate it. Yes, that is correct. I keep everything hardwired. I know that kind of beats the purpose of buying wireless speakers, but it makes a world of difference in both sound quality and reliability.
@@YuriBrus hi and thanks very much for the reply. I’ve tried them wireless and wired together but they constantly both drop out. I’ll try them with the master hardwired to the router in the morning. @@2134yanto Excellent! @@YuriBrus yes, when I hardwired the master to the router, I also wired both speakers together with the Kef supplied cable. I know it sort of defeats the object but it’s got them working and perfectly stable. Can I use these active pairs to match my other passive speakers, configure my AVR to do Left Right Pre-outs to the 2 LS50 wirelesses, and have the rest of the channel for e.g. Center, ATMOS go from the powered outputs from AVR and have the surround sound working?
Great idea, yes you can. You will have to figure out and remember the correct volume setting for the LS50 Wireless though and get a 3.5 Jack to stereo cinch cable. Best regards, Yuri
The only reason that prevents me to order these is that I cannot figure out whether I can connect this to my PC. Other reason is all four colours look so good...
On the previous model, there was a USB-B port to directly connect a PC. These don't have that any longer, which, in my opinion, is a bit of a shame. Currently, I mainly use Tidal Connect, so it is not a huge problem. If your PC has an optical output, you could use that as an (slightly limited) alternative to USB.
@@sanbae359 Hi San Bae, welcome to the club :) and thank you for your question. This is mainly important if you like to play music from a computer. The previous KEF LS50 Wireless had a USB-B port. If you connect your computer via USB cable to that port, you are bypassing the internal soundcard of the computer and allowing the DAC inside the KEF to perform the Digital to Analog conversion in much better quality than the Computer's internal DAC. Have a great weekend and best regards, Yuri
@@YuriBrus Ah I see.. would my solution for a pc then be: 1. An optical cable from my pc to the speakers at 24/96 2. A usb to coaxial ddc to connect my pc USB port to the speaker’s coaxial digital input port? Thanks!
Can the LF 50 Wireless II speakers be run as passive speakers? Hypothetically can the active parts be turned off and a stand alone amplifier used? Just out of curiosity.
Hi Cameron, thanks for your interesting question. The LS50 Wireless version does not offer any option to bypass the internal amplification. The only option you have is bypassing the internal streamer, by for example, connecting an external streamer to one of the digital inputs. Best regards, Yuri.
@@MrCJHamill You’re very welcome. Yeah, they sound great too. As you probably know, KEF also offers a passive version, the LS50 Meta. I previously owned their predecessors, the regular KEF LS50 passives and even in combination with a $2500 Amplifier, they did not sound nearly as good as these actives.
Usually, I prefer to mix and match components and I was a bit sceptic about buying a complete system consisting of only two speakers. But, the more I play around with it, the more I like it. One must be aware though, that a system like this only has a limited lifespan, if keeping up to date with all the latest, greatest technological developments is a priority.
Coming soon, I promise. I'm working on it right now. But, I can tell you already that I am very impressed with the sound quality. They sound a lot better than the passive LS50 plus Marantz PM14 S1 SE combination that you can see in my speaker setup video. Right now, I am running these new ones on my desk and mainly play music via either Tidal or Audirvana. This works flawlessly and sounds great. Just hope that the KEF Connect App won't act up, I read a lot of negative reviews from other users in the App store.

Yes, I would not recommend using an optical cable from the PC either. Are both your PC and the LS50 Wireless speakers connected to your router via Ethernet cable?
Thanks! Yeah, although you can feed it with any PCM source. Maybe your Blu-ray player has a second HDMI output. Still, like I said in the video, I would have preferred to keep the USB-B port, like the previous ones had.
