Mark, I’d like to reinforce your experience & Greg’s about stress free days staying in the Philippines every time I go on vacation there. No matter how late I go to bed because of doing so much and enjoying our days while in the Philippines , I always wake up refreshed and ready to have another good day. I don’t know and have no explanation about this feeling but it must be the people, friends, family, food, lifestyle, who knows. The ambiance is just so much different from what we’re accustomed to here in the US, California in particular. The vacations to the Philippines I would say are the highlights of how we lived our lives so far.
35 balikbayan boxes?! Whoa. I'm moving to Boracay in a couple of days. I sent one balikbayan box and I thought that was a bit extreme. I'm so glad to leave everything in Canada (sold or given away). Life will be simple and easy. Good interview Mark, I would probably enjoy this guy's company if I lived near him but I don't envy all the possessions. I'm looking forward to just the basics.
Where are you planning to live in Boracay? Is there long term rental places at affordable prices? I am also Canadian and have a house in San Carlos Negros Oriental and would love to go to Boracay for long term stays. (A month or two at a time)

Excellent Mark, I wish these folks all the best it looks like they're seeing their dream come to fruition. I'm surprised he didn't discuss solar panels we can assume the water supply is coming from atop of the mountain. Not really sure how that works anyway looking forward to seeing the progress, they sound like a good solid couple and family. Again Congrats to them.
Mark, if you could, please keep in contact with this gentleman. Vary interested in his house building and he's from my home state. Love your video, Thanks for sharing.
Great to hear that they planned their retirement out as most Americans cannot retire even in their late 60’s. It’s a sad situation that began with the demise of pension programs and a shift to 401k’s, and this is one of the nice stories out of many sad ones. What’s worse than a 401k is Social Security. The worst investment anyone ever makes. I won’t turn it down, but I am not confident it will be there when I get to that age. At least my 401k and Social Security will be be enough to enjoy the Philippines.

Hi Mark, a very nice entry again and interesting. Hope it goes well with Greg's house project. As you say, different things may appear later when the house is finished. Good luck with the vlogs and to Greg
One of the subjects that's interested me about the PH, besides the travel vlogs, local culture vlogs, living advice vlogs, etc., are the home build vlogs. Greg and Wilma are quite similar to James and Ness Tanner (My PI Dream) as far as their situation is concerned when it comes to buying land and building a house and having the means to afford it.
Another great interview, thanks Mark. Personally, being a foreigner I would never I indulge the idea of building a home in the Philippines. Particularly in a country where rents are so affordable to begin with and where native Filipinos always have all the leverage in any form of dispute - but that's just me.
I don't see them allowing foreigners to own land.... prices will increase overnight and the typical Filipino will be priced out of their own country. Good interview
Hi Mark, I enjoyed and appreciated you conversation with Greg and the building of his house. I am assuming that you will be doing updates on a regular monthly basis. It would awesome if after the completion of his house building that Greg would provide a step by step process with what to do and provide all the various businesses that he used during this build process. He it seems that Greg has done allot of checking and confirming that all was legitimate. Once again thanks for the interview. 👍
I don't know why it takes that long to build a house there but I just finished building my own house on our property in Bacolod City and it took just 4 months with 12 people. It cost me P2.4M (not including the land). I have my own construction firm here in Batangas and 12 months is really unheard of unless you are building a multiple-story commercial building. Last 2019, I also helped build my friend's house there in Sibulan and it only took 3 months to build his P1.9M 4-bedroom house. BTW, AXA offers property insurance..
I live in Manila and our fucking house is demolished and being built since Feb 2021. How many years should it take for a 4 story apartment to be built like god damn?
I think that house will be completed in 4 months instead of the 6 months committed by the contractor. For good reason, it is normal for house contractors to add some 2 or more months to the target date of completion.
I have been watching a lot of engineers building in the Philippines and they said the best is contractual but you have to be there everyday to watch their job to make sure that they do the job well otherwise they will be rushing and not thinking of quality. I hope there is an engineer that is being consulted for the stability of the building since earthquake and flooding is common in the Philippines. Before they build a house too, a soil study is also done.
Greg you seem like a great guy..... I was watching your walking around of your home construction AND WOW , MAN I have never seen so many supposed workers DOING NOTHING, I watched and on average there was 5 guys standing around..I can see no way how anyone can brag on those guys work ethics... If I were you guys to build a foundation that are earthquake and hurricane safety proof. Hi Mark, FYI in Bergenfield, New Jersey or Queens, New York (global cargo movers) the shipping cost of balikbayan box is 45 dollars, if you drop it off yourself ( the box cost 5 dollars)
Subdivision, fence permit, pool permit, building permit ,engineering, zoning restrictions, lawyers , wills sounds like Canada to me, or places in the USA🤣
Yeah it’s gonna be a beautiful home hey Mark when you come back to look at the house see if you can show us a picture of the house on the blueprint please.
Daily supervision is so important! I regret not being able to do so( see Villa Feliz on yt)! My inlaws just didn't have any idea how American standards exceed Filipino norms!
This place is perfect because a lot purchase more due to temperature weather wise and the sea and one blogger has purchased a higher are there too, Finn , which is planning a business of a “ sailing yacht”
You can actually get a mortgage (home loan) here in the Philippines via banks. But would probably not work out if you are not a permanent resident. As for insurance, you can actually have your house insured
Can u send some links for lots for sale near ur property with similar view - otherwise pls give contact of ppl selling it there with r.o.w. or road access - looks really nice! Thank you!
My house took 7 months to build it. The engineer I hired has more than 30 guys or workers. My house has 4 bedrooms & 3 full bathrooms 2 story house & 2 car garage. Completed in 7 months.
I think that the fact that foreigners could not own property protects the Filipinos because if foreigners could own property, then most of the land in the Philippines could be owned by foreigners. I hope the law stays as such. What we should look into however is if the foreigner husband can work to become Filipino. A dual citizenship if you may.

This guy has it all covered, a attorney is an absolutely necessary for protection. He has also made a great decision to move, the US is a mess. This guy even looks 'happy and content'. How cool it was to see the guy with the three cows walking through. 🙂 This man is all about detail, more power to him....Next interview ask him how many sq ft in this house. Wow, location, location, location. Good Tube.
Have they considered solar panels and a battery pack to compensate for the brown outs? Why wouldn’t you take advantage of the sun and free power for the aircon on those hot sunny days?
You're lucky that your wife is willing to give up her American income! Too many filipinas in America expect their 10-20 years older spouse suffer through american winters unnecessarily! Im 60, my Filipina wife is 41. She keeps moving her retirement goalposts back! I put my foot down, and told her i WILL be back and forth, as planned, with, or without her... I put guitars and such, in balikbayan boxes i cobbled together! I merely adjusted the overall height by sliding one jumbo into another.
That's the biggest issue with age gap relationships. She's at a different stage of life than you so you sort of have to give into her a bit to keep her. Most who choose an older guy will expect the financial insensitive whether that's fair or not.
that when I meet my wife 21 year a ago we built also a house in the province at the beach front I will retire in 3 years I'll love to invite you guys over. if God Permits it
Question for Greg & Mark, I'd like to also buy or build but my concern is not being able to use our MediCare in P.I. I've heard Guam is not much better than P.I. so we could fly to Hawaii or Calif. for the soonest major care. Thoughts?
Sometimes there’s not enough time to make arrangements to make a long flight. My husband got sick and needed surgery immediately. It just came out of the blue. Fortunately we where in our own country

Yes, it’s a “cash society” I built a home in 1989 and it’s a challenge.
A sprawling house would be so nice.
Thanks for convincing me not to build a house there. Sounds like a migraine headache I don't need.
Need your update with Greg and Wilma

Link is in the description on their interview
Great 👍 link to his channel?
Do they have a legal and binding contract with the contractors? That is a must-have when building a house.
Yes
Perfect place
Hi Mark, FYI in Bergenfield, New Jersey or Queens, New York (global cargo movers) the shipping cost of balikbayan box is 45 dollars, if you drop it off yourself ( the box cost 5 dollars)
Great deal. Thank you for sharing this information 😀
Subdivision, fence permit, pool permit, building permit ,engineering, zoning restrictions, lawyers , wills sounds like Canada to me, or places in the USA🤣
Did anyone catch the price of the home and water source?
I LOVE PHILIPPINES VERY ,BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY AND MULTI CUTURAL PEOPLE,, UNSELFISH CULTURAL PEOPLE ,, I LOVE BAMBOO HAUSE IN ,THE PHILIPPINES.
Good to know. Thank you for sharing this information
Bad idea to take out loans
Will the view get blocked if someone builds a very tall house below them?
They can't their deed forbids it
Very interesting. Whose doggie?
Wow I miss mount talinis! Where’s this place in Dauin? I’m from Bacong…/Zamboanguita
Malayan Insurance is one of the best non-life insurance companies. Make sure your beautiful house's insurance includes "acts of God" clause which covers volcanic eruption, landslide, earthquake, tsunami, etc.
Mark, isn't that Mt Kanlaon in the background where the house is being built? Just wondering. Good luck and God bless.
Can I get your realtor's name in Dauin? We might establish a clinic when we retire back home.

Have they considered solar panels and a battery pack to compensate for the brown outs?
Why wouldn’t you take advantage of the sun and free power for the aircon on those hot sunny days?
He is getting solar too

I’m turning 60 tomorrow and am moving there by the end of the year from Canada
Wow
that when I meet my wife 21 year a ago we built also a house in the province at the beach front I will retire in 3 years I'll love to invite you guys over. if God Permits it
Question for Greg & Mark, I'd like to also buy or build but my concern is not being able to use our MediCare in P.I.
@@evelinholmes6401 Thanks Evelin for your response, love living here in Angeles City but will probably have to move back to the states in a few years to avail MediCare.
Markie Shumate found out he had cancer and returned to the US for treatment using his Medicare benefits and he has lived in Negroes Oriental at least five years. Last I heard he did get treatment and decent benefits on his return.
