I have been a charity shop buyer for years. Love the idea of a bargain, saving clothing from landfill and contributing to charity .... win, win, win!!!
I’m currently on the second leg of my very first UK trip - resting in Kirkwall, Scotland. My sister and I started our adventure of 28 days in London, then onto Bath, continuing onto Ludlow Shropshire (home of our GGGrandmother), then north to York, Edinburgh, Orkney islands . . . Much to our delight, we have charity shopped all along the way! It’s been so inspiring to experience the quality of goods in clothing and home goods. Unfortunately I didn’t leave enough room in my luggage for all the lovely treasures I’ve encountered, not to mention men in kilts. But we’ll leave them for another time. 🤫 Thank you for your lovely video. Grandma Jean from Northern California, USA.
@@joan279 Yes, I mailed items home when I had a long trip to NZ, in boxes bought from the post office - the parcels took ages to arrive, but it was the cheapest and easiest way to do it. Worked perfectly!
Please assist with the names of other good charity shops in London and Edinburgh if possible. My daughter is visiting from South Africa and would love to share with her. Your tips have been most helpful. Thank you 😊
I'm a volunteer in two charity shops and we would love to have wonderful items to sell but most of what gets donated is unsaleable and most of the rest is fast fashion. We are getting less and less of quality due to people selling their clothes online.
Charity shop in my area is selling cheap and nasty stuff such as Asda t-shirts that cost £4.99 new for like £5.50 - Goodness knows what’s going on…sadly most of the stuff round my area is garbage and the shop has to dump most of it.
I am a manager for a local charity in Hull. We are very passionate about our presentation, and layout. We colour coordinate all our garments, even our bric-à-brac is in colour. Merchandising is the key! I love my job. X
Great video! My mother and grandmother loved charity shops and preloved stuff and I was soooo embarrassed of that when I was a kid. I’d stand outside the posh shops in the little Yorkshire town I grew up in and tell my school friends my mum was in there (posh shop/boutique) when really she was in Oxfam 😂. Now… guess who loves charity shops?? 🤭 I love this kind of content. Thank you 😊
Lancashire lass with the same story. In my wardrobe I have an old jacket of my grandma’s it is from harrods originally but I proudly tell people my grandma bought it from a charity shop. It’s 31 years since she died in October m still miss her.
I am in the US in the upper Midwest. Your clothes are so much cheaper & more classically beautiful than what I see in my area in thrift or charity shops like yours. Consignment stores tend to have better quality, but also more expensive. Enjoyed your comments.
It's really sad that in Australia charity shop prices are usually on par with normal shops. Given that all items are donated & most workers are volunteers, it's shameful that they have lost their focus on who they're meant to serve. The CEO's are focused on their bonus cheques. The two main charities are the Salvation Army & the Red Cross.
I noticed our local Red Cross has increased its prices as they employ managers that are paid around £23,000. So any of my and other donations are paying for their salaries. Feel sorry for the volunteers who work hard and give up their free time!
I agree. We're in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. The prices in our local charity shops are ridiculously high. I walked into Vinnies a week ago and walked straight out. After being a loyal Vinnies customer for the past 10 years, I feel that they've lost the plot. They're more expensive than Kmart. Compare the prices and you'll be astounded. Brand new stuff at Kmart is far cheaper than Vinnies and Salvos.
My sister is all about glamour and glitz and always manages to pick up great bargains from the charity shops. My mother and her friends were amazed at what she stepped out in and inspired them to start buying from the charity shops! One of her great bargins was a Jasper Conran coat that was brand new which she got for a fiver! She looks stunning in everything she purchases from the charity shops!
Hello First time watching your channel, I'm old school charity shopper, always my go to shops I don't go into the high street fashion retailers not my thing at all. I have had some and still do get some really great bargains, all age groups charity shop for various reasons, my reason has always been the same, I'm not interested in fashion trends, Oh yes it has become trendy to buy from charity shops, because a lot of them have gone boutique style, I used to go into charity shops where you could have a good rummage, before that it was jumble sales, Those were the days 😃When I have a clear out in my wardrobe it all goes back into the charity bags I hang on to my favourite finds that I have had from 70s or 80s never outdated quality fabrics. My home not just clothing is mostly recycled furniture fabrics etc. Items and materials made to last a lifetime . Enjoy your shopping .👏🌹
Hello from Australia - one of our favourite shopping past times is 'doing over' the charity or as we say 'op' shops.... not because we can't afford new but because we like to recycle if possible and support a charity in the process....less landfill.... win win 🤩
Monica makes 2nd hand shopping seem painless!!!! And it is i guess! She is sooo stylish, and some brilliant advice and ideas...honestly, ladies, and gents, NEVER buy new again....EVER@!! just no need 😂😊 happy shopping ❤
Most of my wardrobe is from charity shops, I have a beautiful Klass ,fitted camel wool maxi coat, with leopard print fur trim collar & cuffs, £5 10 year's ago, I get stopped & complimented on it often, a David Emanuel faux fur 3/4 fur jacket, again £5 it's immaculate, Jasper Conran dress, £4, a beautiful jaeger red wool shift £5, seen it on 2nd hand clothing sites £85! Last year I paid £4.35 for a simply silk maxi dress with matching shawl, my daughter says she would wear it, again £75, on vintage sites, without the shawl, I have other bargains too numerous to mention, my local charity shop, is beautifully laid out, very clean, & sells fantastic stuff, people travel to go shopping there, long live charity shops!
I love this! It helps the charity's recipients and the world's resources and land fill. It's really ethical. Like how you showed outfit photos to wear it with. Hope you do more ❤
That is one super quality charity shop! Amazing bargains. I have had some beautiful clothes from charity shops over many years and love shopping this way.
You did a lovely job on this video! 👏🏼. I’ve been charity shopping probably longer than you’ve been alive 😂…since the mid 80s when I was a teenager. It’s only in the last few years suddenly charity shopping is in vogue and more acceptable to do, before then people looked down at me when I said where my gorgeous workwear came from. The only trouble is the shops are way more busy now 😳😂🧡💚
I was a teen in the 80's and yes the charity shops were great, you could still get clothes from the 40's,50's, 60's. I had a black 40's jacket with a peplum and a 50's black/multicoloured skirt. We also had a great fabric shop nearby and my best friend, being very arty, used to buy lengths of fabric. She would wear a jersey sports bra top and cycling shorts or leggings and then wrap the fabric around her to make a skirt or even a turban. She came around my home once and my dad said to her, can't you afford clothes? Hilarious, my Dad was very traditional.
I loved this video! I am a long time vintage shop aficionado. I saw beautiful items in the shop that would look lovely on you! I hope you'll devote your next video to shoes, hats, and other accessories. Looking forward to seeing your videos again❣️
I’m in the US. Many charity shops are not laid out as nice as that one, unfortunately. But I find my linen button up shirts and other nice items there. I may spend a few hours going through things and even trying them on. I look for the materials I like and then look at the quality of the piece and if there are any flaws or stains. Since I sew I can often alter my finds at no cost and I take a stain remover pen with me to see if the stain comes out. Charity shops are great for basics or other items if you look. Great video and tips. Thank you. 🥰❤
Great video...well presented and such good advice re blazers, occasion outfits etc. Definitely try on/get that beautiful pink jacket...I think it would really suit you. Really enjoying your channel!
New subscriber, loved this video. I’m in the US and have been a thrift/consignment store shopper for over 25 years. I have found amazing quality items that I usually get a lot of compliments on. Keep up the good work, you know your stuff!
thanks for including prices, in australia the price have gone up so much that it has taken out the fun but at least now i only buy stuff that i really LOVE 😘
I think that the charity shops in my area of the UK are more expensive than the items shown in this video. It has to be a really good quality item for me to buy clothing in a charity shop. Paying £12 for a well worn secondhand New Look or supermarket top isn't really worth it. However, I always buy greetings cards, books, glass and china in charity shops, along with unique accessories. I will look more often, now, for items of quality clothing, after watching this.
Absolutely brilliant! I’ve just found your channel! I love charity shops! Those pink shoes were stunning - I wish I lived near Ipswich as, if they’d been an 8 which I suspect they could have been, I’d have bought them! In fact - everything you picked out was gorgeous! Xxx
I love this Monica! I’m a charity shop shopper & I get so excited when I find bargains! This week I picked up a fabulous Pomodoro Mexican shirt dress (rrp £99) & a Per Una Floral jumpsuit (rrp £45) both unworn & with labels still attached .. for .. £1 each!! I know .. £1 each ! I couldn’t believe my luck 👏 😁
I really like this thank you .I do shop in charity shops .There are always bargains to be found ! This is a beautiful charity shop and in the uk many are decluttering and showing you want and you can do and wear with ? I love that these can be found anywhere in the uk .I don’t know if you’ve noticed but more shops are trying to make their shops look like a boutique style shop very similar to a charity shop. Quaint .
I’ve been going to charity shops since the 1980s. Some of my clothes that I bought second hand back in the 80s and90s are still going strong! It’s possible to build up a gorgeous wardrobe of good quality pieces for very little money. What a lovely video, and what lovely items you showed us! What did you buy? I hope you got the co-ords.
I am in the US. This was so informative. Ours are not called charity and in our area the prices are high and not the quality you showed. I hope that black skirt was in your size. I could see you styling that beautifully. The little summer dress with price still on would look gorgeous on you, but not hard to do when you are so pretty anyhow. A friend of ours and her husband go every year to England. They don’t take much clothes for their three week stay. They just go to charity shops and find amazing items. Thank you. I have thrifted for years and year..clothes, furniture, and decor but at estate sales. I just got a one hundred twenty dollar cute striped cropped jacket like new from one of our expensive stores for two dollars and fifty cents. I also got a beautiful linen sweater for two dollars and fifty cents. I do well at estate sales…lots of beautiful classic blazers. ❤❤❤
If you find more vintage pieces, even from, say, the seventies, you generally need to size up. According to current sizing i can mostly wear size 10 but i also wore size 10 when i was younger ( sometimes even 12s) but i am definitely bigger and heavier than then. That beige dress looked vintage.
This was a brilliant video really enjoyed it I have shopped in charity shops for years and bought lots of amazing items I have found recently that they have gone up a lot in price and that is so sad so keep prices down and we will carry on shopping in them if any charity owners r watching thanks again look forward to following u from Jackie 💜
That’s a very classy charity shop. The prices are so cheap compared to the charity shops here in Wiltshire which are getting more expensive by the day.
I loved that you said made in England and that the garment is quality, back in the 80s there was so much more focus on something that lasted now there is too much tatt ! Not good for the planet.
Wow ..i love charity shops ..i get some realy good bargains ..ours are not has good has the ones ur shopping in ...i tend to travel haha ..prices are going up thou ..i love a good button ..i will buy from charity shop just for the buttons .sizes have all gone pots ..
Just found you. Great presenting and great taste. Your styling is so classy. Thanks for the tips and visiting a local charity shop !! Xx the pink blazer looked lovely .
I love the way the shop is colour coded. Many charity shops look like ‘a dog’s breakfast’ which is so off putting. It’s the reason why only donate, but rarely buy.
Yes I love a new jacket! I have sooo many, oops! One for every occasion. My favourite at the moment is a light beige cotton which I washed in the machine on short wash no problem It goes with everything! Charity shops were going too expensive last few years but the trend has changed again and they are more reasonable again. For people on tight budgets, you can still look smart, and feel confident. I got a lovely owl shoulder bag for 4.99 last week, looked new and I love it!
You are delightful! I agree with everything you suggested. I’m a long time and avid charity shopper and I always check out the £ rail! I take great pleasure in knowing a whole outfit can cost less than a tea and bun!!!
Definitely moving to Ipswich, they know how to price goods. It's really hard here to get a reasonable bargain as they hike the prices even on Primark clothes!!!!
I love charity shops can find some great buys my best buy so far was a next coat was like new was going to replace my mountain warehouse padded one with one similar until I found the next coat have worn it non stop bargain !!! I usually tend to go for the new items can get almost full outfit for £25 plus your helping the environment. I'm enjoying your videos x
It would really be lovely if your outfit of the day is from the charity shops also and include it, perhaps a portion of your vlog and the total amount of your outfit.
Such a lovely shop! And the prices are fabulous! However, I differ with you about pleated clothing items. You can go wrong with them because they generally only look good on slender frames. On a larger body, they add pounds to how you look.
Great video. You are a natural! Good luck building your channel. I also love charity shops and combine charity items with designer clothes I’ve inherited from my mum. I’ve subscribed x #vintagewins
Very good informative video. I too have shopped and donated to charity shops for many years. Lately i think Vinted etc have lowered a lot of the quality i have seen, as people sell their stuff. I think you put that hat on back to front 😂❤
Great vlog. You know your stuff. I recently scooped a pair of O.G Adidas Gazelles for AU $4 and Converse/Jean Michel Basquiat high- tops for $15!! Respectively, they cost $170 & $160 new. At this stage, probably 75% of my wardrobe consists of op-shop finds. Hi, from 🇦🇺👋😎. Oh, and here's a tip for this series... If you don't want to undress to try pants on... Put the waistband around your neck, (I kid you not)& if the ends meet, they should fit. 🤗
Bonjour de Montréal Monica! Thank you for the tips & tricks of charity shoping. Unfortunately, we do not have that selection and quality items here in Montréal, I would certainly be opened to that as everything is ssssooo pricy but enjoyed your vlog and lookin forward to other ones. P.S.: you always look so good and perfectly put together, I'm 4ft 11, not even 5ft so appreciate all your input.
I would love to find a charity shop like that in the US. I suppose they exist, but I have not been in one. We call them thrift shops here, or if you want to sell your items, then we would bring them to consignment shops. That’s where you can find better quality clothes.
This was a fantastic review, you did a really great job and are a natural. Just a little question, can you clip the mic to your top rather than holding it? Have subscribed .
Thanks so much for subscribing! The microphone picks up the noises from my movements and jewellery when I wear it on my clothes which is why I hold it away from me xx
You also have to visit charity shops on a regular basis. I almost haunt my local shops several times a week and have picked up clothing still with the original shop label on.
Came here to say the exact same thing. I live in Perth Western Australia, and the Op shops are so full of fast fashion these days. Yuck! I was stunned at the items in this Op shop.
Oh my! We should be sisters! I am obsessed with blazers, I counted them the other day 27 so far, the collection of the last 23 years of charity shop findings (since I have been in the UK) and I have the exact same pink shoes from next which I bought at a sale, a similar black maxi skirt and the exact pink colour blazer, but shorter. I love it, it’s machine washable, dries on a hanger. I have a big problem though! I ran out of space!!! 😅
Love love love a charity shop bargain. I’ve got a gorgeous Crew coat £8. A pink wool Eastex jacket £4.00, a pair of tan leather Gabor boots £5. A gorgeous little black dress £3 by Planet. Numerous pairs of jeans. Books are fantastic!!! You have to have a good mooch but it’s soooo worthwhile.
Thanks for visiting and featuring our shop! 💚
You should be very proud. It's a stunning shop and the prices are affordable.
My pleasure entirely! I will be back for sure xx
You have a wonderful shop, it’s so organized and well laid out love it
Fabulous shop, well organized and inviting. I wish I lived nearer.
Hi where is the shop please?
I’m in the US. This has to be the most lovely and organized charity shop I’ve ever seen!
Isn't it fabulous!! Thanks for the comment xx

A friend of ours and her husband go every year to England. They don’t take much clothes for their three week stay. They just go to charity shops and find amazing items. Thank you. I have thrifted for years and year..clothes, furniture, and decor but at estate sales. I just got a one hundred twenty
dollar cute striped cropped jacket like new from one of our expensive stores for two dollars and fifty cents. I also got a beautiful linen sweater for two dollars and fifty cents. I do well at estate sales…lots of beautiful classic blazers. ❤❤❤
Thanks so much for your lovely comment!!! ♥️ yes, it really is a treasure trove and so much fun. You can’t go wrong with linen!! Love, Monica x
Amazing finds!
A great vlog. You present really well. 👌
Thanks so much! It’s my dream to present so this is my little practise space!! ♥️
Watching from Sri Lanka. Enjoyed watching your video. Hope to see more videos. Charity fashion videos.
Wow!! This video has travelled far! How wonderful - thanks, another this Saturday xx
👗 last week i bought from the Myton Hospice charity shop a pair of Reiker shoes for £10 . So pleased, they match exactly with my dresses 👗
Love this!!😍
If you find more vintage pieces, even from, say, the seventies, you generally need to size up. According to current sizing i can mostly wear size 10 but i also wore size 10 when i was younger ( sometimes even 12s) but i am definitely bigger and heavier than then. That beige dress looked vintage.
You're correct, in the 80s, i wore a size 10 at 8st, and now i can wear a size10 at 9 1/2 stone, and im not the good shape i was 40yrs ago !!
Thanks so much for the comment! I find the smaller towns have the best prices, compared to the 'upmarket' areas, if that helps! xx
Lovely designer looks and style. If you have the right eye to spot ..also better made clothes for great prices 😉
I totally agree!♥️♥️♥️
That’s a very classy charity shop. The prices are so cheap compared to the charity shops here in Wiltshire which are getting more expensive by the day.
Ah I haven’t yet visited the charity shops there, I’ll add it to my list ♥️
Let me know and I will show you around Devizes Wiltshire 😊
Thank-you always good to see new ideas xx
brilliant, Monica! loved your tips, and your classic styling! love, sue xx
Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback xxx
Loving these charity shop videos. I would have loved for you to model a couple of the things you were looking at🥰
Love the point about sizing! Always best to try on if you can 😁
I loved that you said made in England and that the garment is quality, back in the 80s there was so much more focus on something that lasted now there is too much tatt ! Not good for the planet.
Couldn’t agree more ♥️
Wow ..i love charity shops ..i get some realy good bargains ..ours are not has good has the ones ur shopping in ...i tend to travel haha ..prices are going up thou ..i love a good button ..i will buy from charity shop just for the buttons .sizes have all gone pots ..
I am an avid thrifter and I loved seeing what you found. I would love to see you try on the pieces you loved.😊
Coming soon! ♥️🥰🥰
Just found you. Great presenting and great taste. Your styling is so classy. Thanks for the tips and visiting a local charity shop !! Xx the pink blazer looked lovely .
Thanks so so much! I really appreciate your kind words ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I love the way the shop is colour coded. Many charity shops look like ‘a dog’s breakfast’ which
is so off putting. It’s the reason why only donate, but rarely buy.
I agree. The volunteers need to up their game and organise the clothing to entice the buyers.
Its a great charity shop I must say! xx
Agree completely
I hope you got the pink blazer. That was a particularly good charity shop. 👍
I may have to go back! 😍😍
Really like to see items on the body and what you purchase!
❤it , youve got a good eye for quality items
Thank you so much xx
Love this type of video, thank you! 🤩
You're so welcome!♥️♥️♥️
Well done. It’s about time this was done. Save clothing going to landfill Superb
Another thing to note about blazers from the charity shop is that you need to take in account the dry cleaning cost which can often be pricey
Good point! ♥️
You can dry clean at home with dry sheets designed for that,or, you can use a handheld steamer.
Yes I love a new jacket! I have sooo many, oops! One for every occasion. My favourite at the moment is a light beige cotton which I washed in the machine on short wash no problem
It goes with everything!
Thanks so so much! I couldn’t agree more ♥️ x
Love ❤️ your video! Love your tips!!
More please 🙏🏼
Thanks so much! I have a couple of episodes ♥️♥️
I shopped sales racks, second hand stores, yard sales from the time I went to work at 15. It has never bothered me. I get more for my money.
Definitely moving to Ipswich, they know how to price goods. It's really hard here to get a reasonable bargain as they hike the prices even on Primark clothes!!!!
Hey! Monica I am your new subscriber here and I really really love your videos so so much and I wish you reach 2K Subscribers very very soon!♥️♥️♥️
Hello! Oh wow - thank you so much ♥️♥️♥️
Also, if you are into sewing, you can make alterations to aa larger size to fit you....or...use the fabric to make something completely different.
Great point! An area I could do with brushing up on!! ♥️
I love your video. It makes me want to jump on a plane from Canada to the UK to do some charity shop shopping. You have a great eye.
Thanks so much! I’ll be in Canada all summer so I’ll be sure to fill my favourite spots! ♥️
Just found you and have subscribed, packed with loads helpful information, well presented Thankyou x
Thanks so much! A pleasure to have you here xx
How fabulous! Thanks for the comment too xxx
Thank you for the tips.😊
My pleasure entirely! xx
Absolutely loved this Monica, thank you ❤.
Thanks so so much!
It would really be lovely if your outfit of the day is from the charity shops also and include it, perhaps a portion of your vlog and the total amount of your outfit.
What a great idea! I will absolutely incorporate this ♥️
Really enjoyed your video. I’m off charity shopping tomorrow with my sister x
Thanks so much! Delighted you enjoyed xx
You certainly have a good eye for things (which I would likely miss!)
Thanks so much! Hopefully this series will make it easier to spot fabulous things too! xx
I think you had the navy hat on back to front ha ha!! You are funny!! Xx
😂😂😂😂😂 whoops!
My sister and me always refer to charity shops as “exclusive boutiques “
Omg!! I love that!!♥️
Such a lovely shop! And the prices are fabulous! However, I differ with you about pleated clothing items. You can go wrong with them because they generally only look good on slender frames. On a larger body, they add pounds to how you look.
Thanks for the tips!
Great video. You are a natural! Good luck building your channel. I also love charity shops and combine charity items with designer clothes I’ve inherited from my mum. I’ve subscribed x #vintagewins
So kind! Thanks so much xxxx
Very good informative video. I too have shopped and donated to charity shops for many years. Lately i think Vinted etc have lowered a lot of the quality i have seen, as people sell their stuff.
I think you put that hat on back to front 😂❤
I definitely did 😂😂♥️ thanks for the lovely comment xx
Really enjoyed your video 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much xx
Wow!! love a bargain 😍😍 thanks for watching! x
Thanks so much! I’ll be in Canada this summer so I’ll be sure to film some content there ♥️
Oh wow if you’re on Vancouver Island we some lovely charity shops 🇨🇦
You are in my fave shop, went into the sale too🎉
I would love to find a charity shop like that in the US. I suppose they exist, but I have not been in one. We call them thrift shops here, or if you want to sell your items, then we would bring them to consignment shops. That’s where you can find better quality clothes.
Ah yes! My family live in Canada, so I have seen a similar situation there too! xx
I look for cotton, linen, silk, and wool. If it's too big, I can reduce it. Hate the colour? Dye is your friend. Endless possibilities.
Love this ♥️♥️
Thank you for a fantastic look through charity shopping. Expat Canada 🇨🇦
My pleasure!❤️❤️
What a great shop, super tips x
Thanks so much! ♥️
Totally agree - little and often! xx
Me too! 🙂👍
Yes pink really suits you !
Hiya. I just subscribed. Looking forward to watching some videos. Thankyou Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
Thanks so much! I’ll be in Toronto this summer! (I am half Canadian ) ♥️ I’ll deffo be filming the thrift stores there!
@@themonicaway. Oh cool I live 45 min from Toronto 🇨🇦🐝
Just found your channel , going to be lovely to follow you ,so natural to listen to
That’s so kind! Thank you xxxx
Hi from Australia,
Where is this filmed ? UK from this lovely girls accent?
Great video.
Fiona and John.
🦘😊🙏🌷
Thanks so much! This is filmed in south England, Suffolk. My accent is from the north of England which is where I’m from 🥰♥️ x
I love charity shops,I've found so many great items of clothing,my daughter even found a blue willow plate set
Love that!!! ♥️😍
What a great video and a beautiful shop. Ours in Australia aren’t as good as that one.
Sorry to hear that! Hopefully you can live vicariously through the UK ones 🤞🏽♥️
Came here to say the exact same thing. I live in Perth Western Australia, and the Op shops are so full of fast fashion these days. Yuck! I was stunned at the items in this Op shop.
You need to go to expensive parts of your city, not expensive areas dont have much in their shops
I love shopping in Thrift and Consingment shops in the US and also when I come home to England 😄
Loved the video great ideas cheers thx 🌻
