For those that are interested, the MiG-25 was NOT initially designed to counter the SR-71. It was designed to counter the XB-70 supersonic bomber that never came to be. The MiG-25 was used none the less to patrol the vast airspace of Russia incase of American attack by nuclear bombers. The West feared this plane, for they thought it was initially a super fighter jet that outperformed their own in terms of agility. In reality it wasn't very maneuverable, more heavy but fast, although it could fly above air defense systems virtually unchallenged and outrun any aircraft trying to intercept it. Later developments led to the new MiG-31 "Foxhound" that could fly at low altitudes and intercept American bombers and the SR-71 "Blackbird". Other improvements included better materials to dissipate the overheating problems the MiG-25 had, a longer range, and new radar systems to track multiple targets simultaneously. They can even shoot down satellites! Even as of today, no other aircraft interceptor comes close to matching the speed of the Mig-25 and 31.
The only thing the SR71 would do if they got intercepted is to speed away and outrun the missiles.
@@issacfoster1113 - that's against regular fighters. The MiG-31's missiles and flight performance were designed to catch Mach 3 speeds. The MiG-31's missiles can travel over 300 kilometres, which is the sort of distance needed to close the gap with a Mach 3 aircraft.
@@sztypettto You aren't keeping the scrambling time and speed delta of the planes in mind. A SR71, when pinged on radar, would have been already at Mach3+ speeds (its real max speed is still a military secret). By the time a Mig25 or 31 reached operative altitude and speed, no matter how good their missiles, the SR71 was already out of engaging range. And in fact no SR71 was ever shot down buy either other planes or surface-to-air missiles.
The SR71 was not a combat plane by any definition, but a spy plane. A fast ninja among heavy armoured samurai. It got in, took intel, and got out before the warriors went anywhere near it to be a problem.

In fact, it's so fast, that it's already gone BEFORE it gets to you. 33 miles per minute is hauling ass, how long did it take a Mig 25/31 to get to 25K meters from parked on the runway? Around 3 minutes? The only chance even a mach 3 fighter has is to already be in the blackbirds AO when intercepting it.

they were so powerful that they were practically disposable , the engines lifespan was only 150 hours before it started killing itself with its sheer big ball sickle and hammer energy
I mean it'd be a funny joke if the engines were made for the plane. Except the plane was made for the engines, which were cruise missile engines they happened to have laying around when the need for the MiG-25 was urgent.
@@toasty6570 What? They were disposable not because of the power but because they were meant to be used on a missile, that you know, kinda don't really come back to base after a mission. Later models had engines modified when they were made with a plane in mind, making them last a lot longer then that. The low servicelife was only because they were meant to be used in a disposable weapon
As far as I know the 4.5g was a limitation due to aerodynamic instability, there was a case of a pilot pulling 10Gs with wings not breaking and no major damage done to the airframe. The plane could pull decent Gs, it just was very hard to control if you did it
no, the plane was partially made of a nicel alloy and not titanium like the americans thought thus during anything more than 4.5g the wings would literally deform needing to be replaced
Most interceptor aircraft could, it's just the squishy meat blob in the cockpit that can't handle weighing 10 times more than they usually do for any length of time.

Not likely, the plane was mostly made of steel alloys, making it incredibly heavy. The MiG-25 is a fairly crude design.
My dad actually flew in a Mig-25 when the USSR was around, unfortunately the tape was taped over by the russian metro, but we still have a few photos. My dad said it was amazing (he flew in the 2 seater version) and he said he could see the curvature of the earth.
Not to mention the fact that it was examined close up thanks to a defecting pilot

I don't think jet battles ever gonna go higher than - average - 10000m in this game, no matter what they add, unless jet bombers get to spawn really high up!
Any map smaller than denmark is going to be way too short
In reality most jet battles don’t exceed 15000m for any purpose at all. Bombers tend to fly around that altitude or 20km if unchallenged.
That R-40 missile is about the same weight as an AIM-54 Phoenix, and it’s longer. I keep seeing unimpressive figures for its performance but any air force that has MiG-25s keeps putting R-40s on them.
Keeping in mind that missiles have a maximum *launch* speed and couldn’t always be fired if you were going faster than sound,
I bet the R-40 is designed for a particularly high launch speed.

The missile at the start is the R-40 or a variant of it of some sort anyway, the most scary missiles the Soviets/Russians had/have right now, is the R-37, it is capable of up to 7000+ kilometres an hour, imagine minding your business in your AWACS and just getting slapped out of the sky by a 600Kg missile going at Mach 6, from like 150+km, not that, it is realistically possible at all with the amount of jamming it would have to encounter on the way, but still quite crazy to think such things exist..

@@cristobalalvarez5491 Britain has the Meteor at best, which is too expensive for them to use therefore barely any Typhoons have them. Americans are trying to develop a new long range BVR missile. As for the jamming issue, most radars have HOJ capability.
Im confused as to how a radar guided missile tracks a stealth aircraft, i know missiles were fired at the sr71 successfully, which it was faster than when diving, but i figured they were heat seekers.
Also top speed I've ever seen for the r40 is mach 4.5, not mach 6.

You know, there WAS an interceptor derived from the SR-71, the YF-12. Its primary armamenr was the AIM-26 Falcon, which could have a nuclear warhead if required. The missile was developed further and eventually became the AIM-54 Phoenix used by the F-14.
Also, the record-setting Foxbat was actually one of the prototypes, which was stripped down just for that purpose. I doubt you'd pull it off in a fully combat-capable MiG-25, but you got close. As for guns...well, the Soviets never put guns on their MiG-25s, but the Iraqis sometimes fitted them with gunpods in the Iran-Iraq War and possibly the Persian Gulf War too.
Much like the Streak Eagle in the US, stripped down for speed. It beat the Foxbat's record in climb rate. It was probably slightly faster too.
There is an improved interceptor version of the MiG-25, known as the MiG-25PD. The PD has an improved radar which has pulse doppler capability, which improved tracking targets at low altitude, an IRST sensor located under the nose, and able to carry 4 R60 missiles on the outer hard points (2 R60s in each hard point). The PD can also carry electronic countermeasures, in which it is designated as the MiG-25PDS, NATO codenamed "Foxbat-E." The Foxbat was thought to be a highly agile and maneuverable fighter by the West because of its large wing and powerful looking engines. This sparked major concern to Western nations on whether their air force, the USAF especially, are behind on fighter aircraft development to the Soviets, and at the time, the USAF best fighter was the F-4 Phantom II. The emergence of the Foxbat made the USAF's F-X fighter program (which resulted into the legendary McDonald Douglas F-15 Eagle) to reconsider new performance marks to at least be equal or counter the MiG-25. They were even developing and testing new missiles that would counter the Foxbat, one of such is the Seeker Bat long-range air to air missile. The upcoming new fighter for the USAF, the F-15 Eagle, the product of the F-X program, was planned to use the GAU-7/A 25mm 5 barrel rotary cannon that fired case less ammunition, until they decided to still use the M61 Vulcan because of development and mechanical issues with the GAU-7, which led to its cancelation, and in the aftermath of a Soviet fighter pilot defected to the West by flying his MiG-25 to escape and crash landed in Japan. The Foxbat was in fact too heavy to be very agile and maneuverable because it is mostly built by using stainless steel instead on lighter metals like titanium because of its common availability, the same ability to withstand high temperatures as titanium, and low cost compared to rarer metals like titanium. The R-15 turbojet engines cannot withstand speeds of up to Mach 2.8 or higher or else it would severely damaged the engine to the point of being non repairable.
Attempt #1: you should play the ME 262 A-2a. It's essentially a more agile 262 at 6.7 since it has two less 30 mm cannons (plus it has two 250 kg bombs). Regardless of whether you take it into air or ground, this thing will shred the competition.

btw the engines on that plane have a 150 hour lifetime because the soviets had to rush the development in fear of a match 2.5+ bomber being developed (the xb-70). So they got jet engines that were used on cruise missiles because they didn't have time to develop new engines.
Watched a video about the MIG 25 yesterday and then you upload a video about it, how cool is that.
Imagine if the warthunder performance models interpret the engine specifications, weight, design and such, and was then able to predict all those special afterburner and radar modes they don't tell you about.

There was a company in Russia who would take you to the edge of space in a two seater MiG-25 or MiG-31. Sadly they retired both of those planes but they're still in business with a MiG-29.
fun fact: you can go close to mach 3 in game with the BI ussr event jet plane at 6.3...you just have to set it as 'test flight' - 'endless fuel' - 'get to map height limit' once you do that wings wont rip off, as logically the higher you go, the less air there is to cause torque on wings
Depends on the plane. I flew a B29 at around 12k and did a normal turn which I have done a hundreds times and instantly ripped both my wings of.

There wasn't a plane in the world which could intercept an SR-71. The problem was, when you detected it, it was cruising at Mach 3.2 at around 78,000 ft. By the time you climbed to an altitude where you could shoot at it, it was already gone. A MiG-25 or MiG-31 had to wreck its engines and do catastrophic damage to the skin of the aircraft to run after an SR-71 flying at its cruising speed. They would literally burn up and come apart from the air friction load on the aircraft, and the engines would rapidly tear themselves apart because at those speeds air acts more like a fluid as it enters the intakes.
Hey Phly, it's challenge time. I want you to take out the Italian Mega Duck, the P108 with a 102 mm cannon, 140mm of pen with the ground target belts and more than enough TNT to one shot things. It's a 2.3 br vehicle, but I took it to 6.3 and killed strv's with it. Please, just give the Duck some love

Video suggestion for you: DCS MiG-21, but relatively raw footage. E.g., first video could be you going through the tutorial flight school sort of thing. I said relatively raw footage bc I feel like that fits the sort of raw, hands on nature of DCS (plus, learning a plane and its systems +keybinds in DCS is plenty of work, so minimizing editing definitely helps)

On the topic of large missiles being fitted to fighter aircraft: The Iranian put Hawk SAMs on their F-14 Tomcats, some of them fitted with bombs as "warheads". Those were pretty chonky boys as well!

The MiG-25 would be amazing for WT. People saying it’s too fast should know that doing any type of crazy maneuver would result in the aircraft tearing itself apart. And there’s missile that can exceed Mach 3.

Engines on the Australian F-111 were more powerful by more than 10% officially, but I can assure you that after the final refit they were vastly more powerful, but the info will still be non-public for at least 20 more years.
Mig-25 Ingame means there might be a radar link feature which the Foxbat actually had. Oh and the ability to track multiple targets.
Day 1: Phly you should show us an updated keybindings setup at the beginning or end of one of your videos. I always struggle with finding the best way to set up my keys and would like to see how you do it.

The SR71/A12 pilots have stated that the offical top speed was Mach 3.3, but there was still 3 inches left on the throttle. And they've seen crazy Mach numbers when pushed all the way forward.
Some radar tracks have shown speeds over Mach 4 and maybe into Mach 5.
It's definitely a hypersonic capable airframe.
Edit: Maybe one day we'll know the true top speed, it is still classified for now.

Theres a really good video online about the engines used since there was a lot of misinformation about them.
They got to add the mig 25 soon. I meen what other jets are left now other than the more modern ones
MiG-21 1993 or 97, MiG-23 1998 are the only 3 variants that would be better then what russia already has. Most likely the next plane will be one of those or MiG-29. I doubt they will add MiG-25 soon since it has no place in the Meta
I think they should add the sr71 blackbird as a special 'scout/reacon/intelligence' category just like 'aviation/helicopters' serve different purposes i mean it could make more interesting matches if the players had a blackbird up in the sky feeding intel plus some other custom missions ofc and many other planes of other nations could also fulfil that role.
They could add a lot of “useless” ground vehicles and helicopters to that as well

Don't take too much full throttle when maneuvering and first of all when going high altitude, the Foxhound (not the Foxbat) can go near-space as it has enough fuel and range than the previous Foxbat

max speed, mach 3.2 and the engines start melting at 2.8 also, the original plans were made from the stolen avro arrow plans in the 50's and was used as a excuse to shut it down. they should put the A-12 in the game though, a armed even faster version of the blackbird that came before it.
With the JA37 Viggen avaliable in the game you could play out the real life scenario of Viggen intercepting the SR71 head on at a Mach 5 closing rate....
Scrambling from their bases, Viggen fighters would enter a steep climb to reach an altitude just below the SR-71, accelerate to twice the speed of sound, then climb again to fly directly towards the SR-71 in a head-on approach, achieving a missile firing solution

The MiG 25 wasn’t built for dog fighting, it was built to withstand a nuclear blast with engines meant for cruise missiles, able to go Mach-3 easily without a dive and an easy quick massive wingspan, it did have flaws like have 0 maneuverability, going Mach-3 causing permanent damage and its wings the only thing keeping it airborne; and its radar unable to track any low flying planes.

Try the german aluette (heli) pls. It jjst recived a stabiliser for the camera making it much easier to shoot atgms on the move.
