You're on the right track, but if you're feeling 4 beats per measure, you would call this 12/8 time. This type of tune uses compound meter, where there are 3 eighth notes per beat (1 - - 2 - - 3 - - 4 - - ) as opposed to 2 per beat in simple meter (1- 2 - 3 - 4 -). It's easier to write/think about this music in compound meter than to assign triplets to every single beat. 6/8 is the compound equivalent of 2/4 (each have 2 Beats 1 - - 2 - - vs. 1 - 2 - ), and 12/8 is the equivalent of 4/4 (each have 4 beats). 6/8 and 12/8 are often used interchangeably in this style - it doesn't change the way it's played, just how many beats you assign per measure. So this song is either in 6/8 or 12/8
