I actually like the Match Up Segment. This is a better revival than the one with Michael Burger, although I'd take that Match Game revival over the 2001 Card Sharks revival all day and everyday
This match game is used to watch as a kid in the 90s but I've never watched the 70s match game because I wasn't around in the 70s but I do catched the re runs of 70s match game
That is true. at noon, 12:30 p.m. slot...it was going against the news, or the Young and the restless, or whatever the independent stations were showing.
You were a great contestant, Kelly! Rare win by tie breaker...and on the premiere! I would’ve answered “Rolling Thunder”....but that’s why you won $5K and I didn’t! This is my fav version of MG. One of Mark Goodson’s last projects....it was pretty faithful to the 70s version. MG PM is coming to Buzzr next week, and I hope they’ll add the 90s series, too! Peace all! ✌️
Of course a few years later Joe Alaskey would voice Grandpa Lou on the Rugrats following David Doyle's death in 1997, and he had already been doing Sylvester's voice in Looney Tunes since after Mel Blanc's death.
I thought that Richard Dawson was a panelist on the updated show because I'd read somewhere that he was telling a contestant that he and Gretchen had just had their daughter, Shannon.
This never aired in the Detroit market, they opted for local news. A strong pair of rabbit ears and you could've watched it out of Toledo's affiliate though.
Yeah that's why they called 12 noon the death slot. Many stations opted for an hour long local news program or other syndicated programs. My ABC affliate, WYTV was one of the few who did run everything in pattern (since they still won't put up a noon newscast).
@@newstarcadefan Houston, TX never aired it, but in Dallas, WFAA - ABC 8 did, as did KBMT - ABC 12 in Beaumont, TX. Houston finally did see this air in 1998 via GSN.
Mitchell Hill That was in the pilot with Burt Convy, but I agree, at least this intro is way better than the one from the 98 version with Michael Burger.
Too bad this version did run long like the 70's version.Technically this is the second reboot. Now the third reboot is on the tele now. The original is the 1960's show. Nice to see Charles on the show .
I can't decide which set design looked worse...this version or the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour. Both were visually unappealing, in my humble opinion.

Having watched all the versions of this point, Michael Burger’s version was unwatchable
Wow. The first episode of this show had the late great Joe Alasky AND the voice of Rebecca Cunningham!

The only problem with this version of Match Game is that in the Eastern US it aired at noon and a lot of ABC stations didn't bother to carry it.
WABC in NYC carried it but I think they positioned it at around 12:30 PM. I could be wrong.

@@drummingdanny84 WOI-TV in Des Moines aired it at 11 am
I don't know if KSAT 12 (San Antonio, TX) aired Match Game '90?
@@drummingdanny84 no because loving came on after match game 90 and yes WABC did carry the show
Holy cow, that’s me on episode 1!
Kelly Kleinman you were on Match Game '90?

Kelly, good choice on ROLLING __________ on the Head to Head. It was a tough one.
Whoa! TailSpin!
For Rolling ___________ the following 3 are what popped up in my mind.
1: Stone
2: Thunder
3: Pin
The tie-breaker rules would change on later episodes.
The opening kinda remind me of the opening happy days a litte.
I like the star wheel “falling” sound effect in the early Match Game 90 episodes.
Of course a few years later Joe Alaskey would voice Grandpa Lou on the Rugrats following David Doyle's death in 1997, and he had already been doing Sylvester's voice in Looney Tunes since after Mel Blanc's death.
Joe Alaskey was also in _Tiny Toon Adventures_ as Plucky Duck.
I thought that Richard Dawson was a panelist on the updated show because I'd read somewhere that he was telling a contestant that he and Gretchen had just had their daughter, Shannon.
This was around Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em’s birthday.
I liked all three Match Game host. Michael Burger Gene Rayburn and Ron Safer. They were the best.
RIP Joe Alaskey.

@@paulnguyen8910 that's wild. That's also considering that KTRK is an ABC O&O
@@newstarcadefan You mean "KTRK"!
@@paulnguyen8910 I did mean that. My brain never works that early in the morning when I just hop on and start typing.
This is My Favorite Incarnation of MATCH GAME.
I believe it would have lasted longer if it had a better timeslot.
and if they had the spinning circle in the intro, like in the 70's. or if it was in syndication.
Mitchell Hill That was in the pilot with Burt Convy, but I agree, at least this intro is way better than the one from the 98 version with Michael Burger.
@@smittykins I think it would lasted longer if Bert Convy didn't fall ill after the pilot!!
Is it me or does the circle Ross enters from look like our old friend The Time Tunnel?
Joe Alaskey and a contestant on MG 90 did blow together between tapings. .
Ross isn't using a handheld microphone.
The same way that Gene Rayburn didn't had a mic in the early episodes of the 1973 version of Match Game on CBS, until late of 1973.

Nice to see Charles on the show .
actually, this is the second reboot of the '70s version..the match-game hollywood squares hour was the first.
I so wish it had been rebooted earlier with Gene Rayburn in 1987 as they were planning..or with Bert Convy..neither worked out..
I can't decide which set design looked worse...this version or the Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour. Both were visually unappealing, in my humble opinion.
HEY YO WASSUP AUNT VIV
What does 16.07.90 mean
The date of the show, July 16, 1990.
Here in the US, we say 7/16/90.
Gene should've got to return. It was dirty!!!
True, but by this point, he was out of the game with his last show being for AMC, the Movie Masters.
The early 70’s episodes were better
