- Here is my take on the Nakamichi Dragon after one week on use. Demos of different movie action scenes and some music clips from various genres. I did not play any scenes from shows, but trust me, it sounds great. I really enjoy watching movies and show. Sounds amazing at both loud and low volumes. The height effects is present and loud, very immersive. The clarity of voice is great. the bass is good, not as strong as my 12 inch klipsch, but is accurate and not boomy. The bass blends very well with the other speakers. I've had 2 out the box dvd/surround systems from Panasonic, 5.1 and the other was a 5.1 Sony surround. I've also had mix and match of 7.1 denon receiver and Yamaha adventage 5.1.2 with with klipsch quintet 4 and 5 and Klipsch icon towers and surround. So I would say that the Dragon is great for the Dolby Atmos in comparison and you don't need ceiling speakers..
01/03/24 update. New setup at my new place with open floor plan and Vaulted ceiling. ua-cam.com/video/Eaub7Y6JduY/v-deo.htmlsi=5A-DnsIC0Rf_9aK9
Update. I have had the system for almost 2 weeks and after adjusting the settings, I will say that I have no regrets replacing my 5.1.2 AVR system with the Dragon I am very please with the quality, simplicity, and adjustability of the Dragon. Whether you are looking for simple connections, loudness, immersion, cool factor, power, bass, Atmos effects, music or a nice presentation., the Dragon delivers a complete package with next to no-compromise. I will be moving in a few weeks to a house with a big open floor plan and give you guys an updste on how the Dragon sounds in a great room with valulted ceilings.
Thanks a lot Thang for the sharing.
Could you please kindly comment on the dialog quality? compare to the traditional center speakers with like 5.5/6.5 Inch unit, does the Dragon dialog sound clear, comfortable and immersive?
Do you regret purchasing the Dragon?
@thangvu7369 Please update us on the new house and sound.
@@jianpingzhang dialog is clear and comfortable. Sounds good. no fatigue

I’m saving for the next 10 years to buy this system 😂
Thanks for the demo, i think you can get a little more from the system calibrated it measure the distance and save them, also i think you should move your subs over a little bit, it's too close to the fire place mantle. Also remember there are more bass controls in the buried in the osd menu for bass. When the lfe control comes out via firmware update it's going to help a little more. As for music try studio mode and try just 2 subs on istead of 4. That will control boomines with the subs if any...are present just my 2 cents lol...but it sounds awesome. I get my dragon at the end of October cannot wait. 😊
thank you. I will try that
You will be happy when it arrives at your dwelling. I just got mine this last Thursday and have only had time to mess with the main unit so far until tomorrow. So far I am very pleased. Nice looking not that hard to handle but the subs are pretty heafty. Can't wait till I get to mess with some good movie stuff. Take Care. Keep us up to date a little. Hot Rod
The Dragon is probably best for movies.
I’m more into how my music collection sounds, so I bought Sonos.
They need to spend more time on the soundbar cabinet styling.
Fine for a home theatre room but not exactly wife friendly if you have it in a family room.
I just figured out the best music mode, I have to use native mode for no sound processing for the music to sound full like the artist intended it to be. It made a big difference
Thanks for sharing your initial thoughts! Looking forward to your updated review!

Great setup enjoy it
I listened to them with my Ht system Klipsch Rp 450cii 8000f front Svs Sb4000 it sounded good according to me what sound format did you test the movies with Dolphy Atmos Dts x or Dolphy Digital??
I have the Nakamichi soundwafe 9.2.4 I bought for $999.00 . 2 subs as well with 18 total speakers. I just cant see $4,000 that’s insane!! Not sure how much better it will be triple the price!!
I can tell you that it is comparable to a system that 7.2.4 pieced together at a similar price point.. Loudness and height are there. I think the selling point is it easy to set up with its full wireless speakers.
@@thangvu7369 Im really impressed with my 9.2.4 maybe I will upgrade once I hear the dragon.
@thangvu7369 how would this compare to a 5.1 around the 4500 price point. Considering onkyo rz50 2 8000f 504c and 2 600s with a goldenear forcefield 40. 5.1 would probably run close to 5k after taxes.
@westonlittle1149 I would believe that it is all in the tuning. I've got the adjustment down to awesomeness. I was always hesitant to replace my bigger speakers with the Dragon, but after a few days with it, I will say that I have no regrets with purchasing the Dragon. I feel that the Dragon has th potential to meet and beat the demands of most people for a home theater.
Can you do a follow up video actually showing the sound bar and the system as a whole? Also a little update on the system? Ty!!! Thanks for posting this review too!
Yes I will do that as soon as I move into my new place. It will be a week or two before I can do that though.
I’m waiting for mine to be shipped out in October. How’s the sound quality of the dragon?
Sound quality is great for movies and shows. For music It's pretty good, but not better than towers.
Just don't be to anxious for it to arrive at your front door. It was only 5 days shy of 5 full months before mine arrived 2 days ago. Unboxing is harder than advertised because it is packed so well and tightly in styrofoam. Plus the whole box thing is extremely heavy. Mine came undamaged and so far the main bar is working perfectly. I will have the subs and rears set up tomorrow or next weekend. Just wanted to let you know.
Sorry sir, let me ask if the fire under the table shelf is real? what's that called sir? We in Indonesia are very difficult to get . is it just a decoration
Every loudspeaker design has its own sonic signature. There is a 32 second listening rule. If the sound puts a smile on your face, you have a winner. Soundbars are not designed like your separate individual loudspeakers. You must buy the preamplifier that handles your favorite audio decoding and buy an amplifier to handle the power to your loudspeakers. This soundbar packs everything you need to enjoy your movies. It may not be the greatest in stereo mode for listening to music. It has you covered. Kickback and enjoy
Another youtube person said they kept their Klipsch 7 channel because the bass couldnt hit no where near as that klipsch sub. He said it just dodnt compare ultimately. Interesting you kept thr Dragon after a traditional 5.1
I still have my 5.1.2 System. Saving it for a theater setup. Here is the link to my current setup

Thank you for this review.
What review? You just spent 20 minutes listening to sound on your own speakers.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the demo Thang Vu ,but one question are all the speakers Bluetooth wireless speakers 🔊 or are they all hard wired?
All of the speakers are wireless. With only one power wire. The whole system have 6 wires in total. 1 HDMI and 1 power cord for the soundbar. The subs each have a power cord. And the surround speakers each have a power cord.
That's one of the main selling points of the Dragon System. All wireless. Use a good line conditioner though, that always helps.
Currently I have a klipsch 5.1 setup. And I’m really thinking about getting this. How would you compare it to the dragon? Sound quality.. bass.. I like loud and clear sounds but with bass
I had a Klipsch 7.1 with towers and height speakers. It's comparable.
Look at Sonos..
An Arc soundbar, Sub Gen 3 subwoofers, and Sonos Five speakers…
The bass is tight and deep and you get great highs and midrange.
Be happy with your setup at home
I would also like to know how this compared to a Samsung q990b or the Sonos. Also, how big is your tv? 77inch?
Caleb from DigitalTrends already did an in depth comparison with the Sonos. I don't have first hand experience with either the sonos or Samsung soundbars. I can compare them to the 7 or 8 systems I had prior to the Dragon. I the strength of the dragon is that it is powerful, compact, simple, and high-end. There are a lot more of customization parameters comparing to other high-end sound bars. Any system can sound better if it is tunes correctly. I was afraid of replacing my AVR with a sound bar, but not with this one. And the TV is a 85 inch Sony X90K
Hi Thang, how do you like Sony X90K? Is the contrast and black level are comparable to Samsung TVs? I heard that the black is a little gray-ish and the colors are not as punchy as Samsung's Im looking to get 85" Sony X95L
@nahlho1807 I like the TV alot. picture is great and the 4k soscaling is awesome. The TV works great without tuning. I would say that so far there's no content I don't like on it yet. I did have to unplug the TV on several occasions because UA-cam would stop working or the TV would freeze. This TV is super bright I usually have to dial down the brightness. I would day that Sony is more natural looking than the Samsung I've looked at. while the Samsung might have more puchiness. I think you would be happy with the x95l or X95k with the mini LEDs.
I have the same TV I think but it's 75 inch.. I have had major issues with HDMI arc connectivity and sound bars. . have you had this issue?
Please whatever you don't go fixing the rears really low like at ear level, in the cinema they are high for a reason it gives a better Sound bubble and enveloping sound Sphere, to many people have them right near their ears it's crazy
How much diff is dragon compared to shockwafe?
I wish it came with an auto calibration feature !
Me too. For $4k sound bar I would expect that.
Get a measuring tape and a sound meter; it'll be far more accurate than any auto calibration. I've built five home theaters and set up many, it's simple and works better.
Sir, which is best in Samsung q990c please tell me
nice demo of movie and music, music does sound great like a proper system not like a soundbar
I had a similar setup with a Denon receiver! I also install a good amount of theater systems. I am very impressed with several aspects of the Dragon such as the sheer power of it can make it go louder than anyone should ever want and even at that volume it is incredibly clean. I also am amazed at the high notes and the punchiness of the bass. However, I'm not sure I'm satisfied, as the mids are nearly nonexistent. To the point that I'm not sure my system is working properly. I've tried several things, and a few have made it better but still it's not providing that layer of depth I'm used to. It's hard to explain but maybe you can try Extraction 2, 41:20-47:30 when the helicopter blows up and falls to the ground, I would expect more oomph. Also, when the lady is kicking butt in the front of the train, that seems borderline annoying due to how high the highs are due to the mids lacking. It would be great to hear your feedback as either my room is way too big for this system or it may not be working properly.
Extraction 2 sounded fantastic on the Dragon. I'm moving in 2 weeks so I did not fully calibrated it, since I have to do it again I'm my new place. I used the movie 1 Eq and AHD on max. and LFE at 190, tree at 7 Bass at 5. My living room is 22 x 12. with hallway , opening to dining g room and kitchen and I sit the longer way from tv approximately 15 ft from the sound bar and it sounded full and stronger. you have to definitely adjust the distance in the menu
@@thangvu7369 thanks for that info. I tried your settings. I moved base to 8 but did like that sound better. So your not hearing a big difference in mid range with your towers VS soundbar?
@@CompSource
FYI, you mean bass, not base…
absolutely
@@billmulvihill8452 HA thanks and edited :)
Not into sound bar but this looks impressive..
I had Sonos Arc, Sub gen3 & Pair era300 it cost almost 3600$ after tax (more expensive because i am from Indonesia). In my Country the new nakamichi Dragon SB doesnt exist so i dont know how much it will cost. Vocal clarity, immersive, sound stage nakamichi is better than sonos 7.1.4 system. However Your setting Volume just 25. With Sonos I have to Volume Up 50-65 for get same immersive dragon does, but the vocal clarity still cannot compete. I hope Sonos software fix better Vocal Clarity for next Update. Happy You had that System.
Yamaha or Nakamichi ?
This one Singapore have sir please arrange for the this model
sony a7000 soundbar?
How is this dragon system compares with samsung Q990B?
I have no idea. I never heard the sound bar in person
What is the size of your TV? Thanks
it's 85 inch Sony x90k
I'm sure the dragon sounds great but let's be honest it's not a complete package. Never mind no stereo imaging or an enveloping sound stage. The thing that puzzles me.. how can one possibly experience object-based audio (Dolby Atmos) when all the up firing drivers are within close proximity.
I have a 7.2.4 dedicated home theater and the dragon. The dragon can't perform miracles, but I'm very surprised by the large soundstage and immorsive sound. I bought it because of the easy setup, mainly.
@@Jacob-ed1bl to be fair I wouldn't be surprised if the Dragon actually sounded better at low volumes then a mid-price AVR setup.
@totalplonker824 I can agree with that. It really is crazy what this system puts out and without any distortion.
@@Jacob-ed1blwithout distortion? Try listening to it with headphones. It sounds very bright and harsh and lacks any mid range. But it’s for a very small “audience” of people who want to”SUPER LOUD, easy setup for $4000 without amp pairing, picking out the appropriate speaker wires, power cables etc
@MrGfunk215 You can't tell what a system sounds like through another device. That's like listening to a home theater demonstration on your phone and actually believing you're getting the same experience, lol. That being said, I agree that the dragon is severely lacking in mids and is harsh in sound, but that doesn't mean it's distortion. It's just its characteristic.
Your sound bar is too far away from the listening position to get the full effect of atmos from where it is from your couch the atmos effect is bouncing off the ceiling and hitting the ground and not near your couch also you should have 1 sub in the front left and 1 in the rear right because the one on the front right looks like it’s near a hallway where you would be losing some bass response
You don't have a fucking clue what you're talking about.
Because the Dragon has 6 height Channels you hear the heights n a bubble. it's very seamless but also very discrete when height sounds are in movie scenes. Nakamichi's eq on the height are spot on.
It sounds really harsh
Obviously not very good for music.
This is basically for MOVIE NUTS like myself. Music will always sound much better with just about any good tower speakers plus a decent sub or even very good bookshelf speakers. It's just the way it is.
My Sonos arc system with SubGen 3 and Sonos Five speakers sound awesome and I have heard very expensive systems in my lifetime.
Oh Captain Marvel what a complete ❤💩 show of 2 movies 😂😂
$4,000 is insane and it only comes with a 1 year warranty? I’ll pass.
Im not impressed with the music, looks like I’ll be looking to sell
I would agree with you. Edit. After a few more days of playing with the settings I will have to change my mind on the music quality. It sounds great now .
Cool. Sell it
I have that sound bar. Side by side with my Kef ls50ii this soundbar sounds like a $200 portable system. It shine on movies though.
I really don't see much difference between the 2022 nakamichi 9.2.4 earc. The only thing I see here is that it has more highs at lower volume. It is basically same sound quality as the 9 2.4 earc and both system have same immersion if set properly. The dragon is just same system in an expensive enclosure.
@@liorweisspiTry this... I set the LGE at 130, bass at 7 and Music EQ on 1.
