    I have the original NU25 with shock cord. The shock cord headband is very comfortable to wear. However, the best thing about it is how easy it is to store in a pocket without all the material from the full size band.

    I use thin paracord with "taunt-line hitch" knot which eliminates the needs of a cord lock. It is probably the lightest optiona and still comfortable to me.

    I did my own version when I got my original NU25 years ago. It was fine but I ended up going back to the original band when it was coming apart. I'm not getting the new NU25 since mine still works fine, but I am going to do this mod. The original strap isn't nearly as comfortable as the shock cord. Frozen, thanks again for the tips. I always like when you put out a vid which isn't very often anymore. I need to hit up Oil creek here this winter. I'm from Columbus Ohio but a buddy of mine lives about an hour north of there in Edenbourgh. Every year I go there to Oil Creek at least once. Hiking in the summer is awesome there but the camping sucks in my opinion. But camping is awesome in the winter because the shelters. Thanks for sharing that place as well.

    I got a nitecore NU25 with the lighsmith headband a couple years ago. I love it way better than the stock headband. It doesn’t give me a headache after about an hour of wearing it like the stock one does. And no, I don’t have it too tight. I can’t believe how light this light is. It’s like it’s not even on my head. I’m used to the Black Diamond spot headlamp but this light puts it in a different perspective. I got this headlamp from watching one of your episodes on it. Thanks. Keep up the great work you put into your videos. I started watching you when you started the AT. I’ve been a big fan ever since. Your videos were and still are the best I’ve seen from the AT. So get out there and give us some more hiking videos, ha ha. Thanks Frozen.

      Now that the baby is sleeping through the night. I will be out quite a bit in 2023. Needed time for the transition also had a minor surgery too but I'm all good and itching to get out again on some longer trips. Also PCT in 24!

    I like that you have the ability to use the light with the mount with replacement cordage. It'd be nice if replacement Li-ion batteries were available and if the casing was easier to open. Two-edged sword though, easier to open would also mean easier to break if dropped/kicked/sat on/etc

    I'll keep my headband strap that came with it. That looks like it would start to hurt over time with the thin cord pressing into my forehead. For the weight savings, this really doesn't make sense and looks more like a hastle.

    I haven’t done the mod yet but with a cord lock it’s gotta be quicker and easier to adjust, that by itself makes it worth doing.

    Why you cut the cord in two? you could have kept it in one piece

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  Рік тому

      I addressed the reason in the video. ua-cam.com/video/7dOL-r4ta6o/v-deo.html Either way it's just a piece of shock cord no need for it anyway.

      @@FrozensAdventures I'm talking about the new one, you are cutting it in two piece where you could have let it in one piece and avoid having two lose end after the cord lock

      Ahh gotcha. Idk seemed easier to me. On the previous nu 25 there were 2 cords as well.

    Hey Frozen nice video! Personally I like the shockcord head band style...it's more comfy and packable. I did the same thing with my Gen 2...personally I'm not a fan of the new version and will likely keep using the 1st Gen one. My biggest gripe is when I turn on the Gen 1 I know exactly what it is set on. With the Gen 2 when it's on my head and I turn it on...I never know what setting it's on - I find I have to turn it on then put it on my head...just a bit annoying. Gen 2 is also bulkier.

    Hi Frozen - what is the name of the knot you used to toe the two strands at the bracket end together? Thanks!

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  Рік тому

      Sorry I'm not exactly sure. I mimicked what I saw on the old gen 1 band. Basically it's a tautline hitch (2 loops) but instead of tying it at the beginning of the loops go through both loops and pull. You can also do a loop, pull the line through the loop then repeat it again so it doesn't untie itself. Don't overthink it just tie a knot.

    Merry Christmas and I was wondering if you noticed that the mount and light are slightly sloppy loose( between positions) and rattles when you shake it? I could see this driving me nuts if it rattles while I wear it on the trail, I will be working to remedy this issue immediately.

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  Рік тому

      I feel like for trail running this would be an issue yes. I've only used it around camp (no night hiking yet)

      @@FrozensAdventures mine was crazy lose, I used a bit of sticky foam and it fixed it. It’s growing on me already. I’ve been using both and the new nu25 seems a better fit. The one thing I use a lot is the red light, it has one setting and it’s plenty bright.

    Are you still going for triple crown? If so, when is the next thru hike?

    • @FrozensAdventures
      @FrozensAdventures  Рік тому +1

      I'll be doing the PCT in the spring of 2024. CDT tentatively planned when I retire. Not really interested in a full triple crown just to be a triple crowner. CDT still has a lot of road walking but crews are working on making the trail more complete.
