Wow! you have some fabulous paintings in that sketchbook
the most beautiful sketch book I have ever seen. Bravo
I have to paus on each and every page to have a good look, it´s just so beautiful and inspiring! This is exactly how I wanna be able to paint. Well done!
I thought your cows were interesting. There were two that I could readily recognize by their heads and the rest just became cows because I knew what they were. I enjoy all types of water color and think your abstract/impressionistic cows fit the scene perfectly. Also after seeing your sketch of Eilean Donan Castle (which I liked by the way) I don't feel as bad about the way mine always turn out. I think that because I have loved the pictures of that castle for so many years I put too much pressure on myself. I expect perfection and of course receive the results of the beginner I am. It was good for me to see that the castle doesn't have to be photo realistic to be good. Thank you for sharing your sketchbooks.
If my best work looked half as good as ur 'atrocious' work, I'd be a very happy artist. Amazing style u have cultivated
Such a beautiful journal. Every page is so fresh.
Boy! I LOVE your sketchbook tour! Lovely book!
Beautiful notebooks Thank you for opening and presenting the paintings
Thank you for this journey through some of your sketchbooks. So light and refreshing, full of life and movement. I found this inspiring. I just love your paintings even the ones you don’t seem to care for very much! 😂 Thanks again.
If they were produced into a coffee table book I would buy them. Your sketches are works of art.
Joanna thank you for your encouraging comment. :)
Thanks for sharing your sketch books with us!
Thank you for letting us have a peek at your notebooks. They give a good idea of the region where you live and clearly express a deep love of nature. They give an impression of calm and serenity and no wonder! If I had your countryside to look at all the time, I would feel serene too. :)
Wonderful sketchbook paintings, a pleasure to see.
I wouldn't be without my sketchbooks,I refer to them almost every time I paint. They hold masses of info!
These are all wonderful - my goal is to paint as loosely and as colorfully as this. Incredible!
I love your work, Patrick. Your paintings are just SO lovely. :)
They are great sketches Patrick, you are so right about capturing a moment in a few minutes,I've had sketch books for years, and I can honestly say I refer to them every time I do a painting, boats, sheep, buildings, colours etc, they become a mine of information.I just wish I had more trees and greenery to paint here in Spain! Lol
this is .....incredible, wow.
Thanks very much I’m pleased you enjoyed it
Thank you for sharing your sketchbook. I remember seeing some of them on UA-cam. Always enjoy seeing you paint. You're a great inspiration!
Really loved seeing your wc journals. Those which you call terrible, I would love to be able to do! Thanks for sharing.
Loved watching this. Just getting started with watercolour so this was really inspiring. Thanks mate!
Yours sketches are so beautiful they are amazing, very inspiring, thank you for sharing.
Hi Isabel thank you for your comment. To keep a sketch book is one of the delights of watercolor painting. :)
-You give so much inspiration by showing this!
You made me laugh when you said something like ' oh that's a rubbish one', when in fact it was lovely :) us artists are very good at self criticism aren't we? ;) I really enjoyed your sketch books, so lovely and colourful. Mine are always in graphite as drawing is my thing but I'm tempted to take the paints out after seeing those. Thanks for the video :)
Really great, peaceful renditions!
Love it!
Jeanne
Wonderful idea....love portrait idea...... I recently started watercolor and love your approach......I am doing a painting a day right now. Just to improve.....
I just looove your sketches! Fabulous how you catch the moments! Looking at the sketches made my feell like I am there at the moment. I do the small sice... but I am such a slow painter and always have alot of paint on my paper :D I always try to get faster... I have to practise alot
Thank you for your kind comment. Keep painting and don’t worry about being slow. As you get more confidence your speed will pick up.
I study arts (for primary school teacher) so I kinda paint quite alot. Still slow :D But I looove plein air painting :D My favorite thing is painting lanscapes (I mostly dont like humans or buildings in my pictures, but yours are beautiful)
wow wow !! what amazing sketchbooks :) its like a book of photos
Very inspirational. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. I’m pleased you enjoyed it!
These are so beautiful! What you say look atrocious I think looks like a masterpiece!
Thanks Nicole. I guess artists are there own worst critics. By being critical of your work and not becoming complacent the standard of painting will keep getting better. Thanks for your kind comment.
oh my god, these are gorgeous
I love it, Bravo !! It's wonderful !!!! ( 9:15 nice job )))
wonderful!!!
Thank you very much :)
I love the “crazy moments” actually 💕
These are so beautiful!
The portrait challage sounds like a great idea! But I think am gonna try drawing myself as I've always found drawing portraits from photographs really useless at least for me- good luck! and thanks for sharing this; I enjoyed it very much :)
these are wonderful! I would like to see you do the portrait I think you should go for it
Thanks for the encouragement, Patrick. I live in the Pacific Northwest in Washington and have been doing sketches for a bit in the same books you use. Sometimes it's hard to get going and I started to use an ink pen first. I saw a few called ink and wash and was trying that but the ink sort of ruins the feeling. Do you just use watercolor alone? I've been doing sort of character sketches of our politicians (so can find some humor in the situation). I've rather enjoyed getting the essence of each one in a comical way. I really enjoy all your videos! There is no stress involved and they are freeing for me.
that is beutiful
Fantastic !
I love your drawing:) nice color
If I can just reach this level I'd be happy (it'll take a long time).
Thanks for sharing. Do you start with a pencil sketch and then watercolor or do it just with the paint?
Interesting how do you deal with water and changing it with watercolour?
Hi Patrick - for these sketches, do you use pencil first then fill it in with watercolors? Also, what is a good traveling case of colors that you recommend?
Your sketchbook puts mine to shame. But, we know that comparisons will not do us any good, will they? We all have something to contribute in the art world. Thank you!
❤️👏🏼👏🏼
Sadly, most of the time, in the larger journal, a lot of the image was cut off because of where the camera was placed and also.. hands were in the way for so much of the time.. and I so wanted to see these lovely paintings.. but it kind of was spoiled.. too bad, because he is a lovely artist...
Silly question but what is the self healing green board under your papers used for?
very nice 👍i had to subscribe to u ,i want to see more ur really good
Wow the double spread at 9.17 is amazing. Why did you flip over so fast? Haha.
Dobrá technika. Zajímal by mne větší formát - A 3. Díky. Držím palce.
Thank you
y el gramaje es de 300 gms.?
que medidas tienen cada uno de los cuadernos de sketch que muestra en este video? Gracias
Me thinkin wow this one is great! Would love to do something like that!
“Oh this is just a horrible painting I did. Just horrible”
How do you avoid being noticed by people around that you're sketching and painting? My sketchbook is all drawn with pencil and fountain pen because i don't dare to color it in public...
vanezcha you can't really avoid being noticed in public places. If you find it difficult go somewhere very quiet initially until your used to working with colour outside. You'll soon get the confidence to paint anywhere. Let's be honest does it really matter if it all goes wrong it's just a piece of paper. The more pressure you put upon yourself the harder it becomes. Just relax and have fun.
what makes me shy is taking out my painting equipments. But i know i have to make the step.
and today i just bought a very small moleskine art plus sketchbook (5 1/2 x 3 1/2" or 14x9cm) so i can sketch without getting attention because people often stare at what i sketch xD
vanezcha Try watercolour brushes with water reservoir - this way you don't need a water container. And use just a small set of colours. This way you keep your equipment to a minimum and nobody would even notice you painting.
BigBlueSky123 thank you for your recommendation! I'll try
10 MINUT SKETCHES wtf
Your dreadful is better than most people's best. I like your style.
his sketches are better than my paintings
Absolutely agree😂 I mean ditto for me😂😂
this is so inspiring! you just radiate pure creativity and kindness
Patrick, it is like you narrate my own thoughts!
I appreciate these kinds of paintings as much is (if not more than) the more complete studio ones. They have so much life and spontaneity, as they capture the bare essence of the subject.
I wanted to ask you a question. Do you sketch them out before painting, or do you go in straight away with the brush? (for some of them it's clear they were planned with a sketch, but I wonder especially regarding the simpler ones - like the fields and beach).
Thanks a lot for sharing this, I LOVE sketchbooks :D
- Liron
Oh my god watching this video once is definitely not enough.... Thank you for sharing... And plz plz share more videos in which you show us your work.. These kind of videos are very inspiring 😘😘
I don’t know anything about art painting but I am thoroughly enjoying when you show us your work. I watched at least 3 times and pause how you catch the scenery in your own way.
Patrick these are really great sketches - full of life and experiences. What type of sketchbook do you use? It seems to accept watercolour very well.
+Chammi Kaiser thanks for your comments I used moleskin sketchbook there available on Amazon
Is this the watercolour paper moleskine?
*they´re :D awesome sketches...
Pure Watercolour Patrick Ley-Greaves moleskin are awful now, bought two the other day the paper is like tracing paper, now using it as a note pad
@@chammikaiser7740 he put the link in the description.
Absolutely the best sketchbook flip I have ever seen!!!! EVER!!!!!
your sketchbooks are visual treat basically...each and everyone of them are fantastic...portraits are very hard specially in water colour ..but are very expressive though.. :)
I love your painting style. I will be following you. I am inspired. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
When someone's "10-minute sketches" are leagues better than the full-size paintings you spend hours on.
😏
Very inspiring. Am off to watch your other stuff now (liked and subscribed).
🏴
Every now and then I come back to this video to hear him call something I inspire to emulate as 'rubbish' or 'really bad'. It inspires me to one day have such an eye for art. So much talent
Thank you very much :)
Very nice sketchbooks - thank you for sharing. I am learning that (1) I need to paint faster, and (2) I need to apply less color. Maybe that’s just a personal preference, but I just like the look when not too much color is applied. I guess that would help me paint faster, too. 😉
I think your work is simply beautiful, although you may think it's not. I also like the size of your sketch book. Not too big, not too small - just nice. Thanks for sharing your wonderful painting. I love them.
Holiday paintings dreadful? They are beautiful to me. I love looking at other people’s journals/sketchbooks. ❤
Wow amazing artist beautiful
Hi Patrick, I just found you today, and I can't wait to go back and review your other UA-cam Videos. I have only been sketching/wc in journals a short time...Oh...To be able to paint as well as your "terrible" painting (as you called it)... Trust me...I would be so happy! Meanwhile, I will view your videos and keep practicing!
Not sure what the point of all this was about....FOR 12 MINUTES!! Just a sketch/paint book!
Love your sketch books! I bind my own sketchbooks and usually have three on the go at a time. It’s a great way to keep your paintings.
hey, i love this ive been keeping sketchbooks for years, and i go out and sketch, but water colour is something im trying to get more into, do you use pencil lines first or just paint straight in, you can see the type of stuff i do on my instagram( scottysketchbook ). my sketchbook of choice is leuchtturm1917 or artway sketchbook
You should watch charles evans on UA-cam he's good watercolour artist and keeps everything simple
@@kevinhargreaves4831 thanks i appreciate it ill check him out now :)
I enjoyed the tour. We are way too hard on ourselves. I really loved the country/ cow one. That would make a lovely bigger painting indeed.
omgosh , just beautiful, wow, love your sketchbooks!😊
Thanks so much for sharing. I wish I could paint like this! Your sketches look better than my final paintings..
+Ich selbst You can paint like that. Just relax into your painting. Think about value and paint loosely. There really is no magic secret. A bit of practice and you can fill a sketch book up easily.
I love seeing other's sketchbooks. Yours are so loose and fresh. Inspiration for the rest of us.
Your dark/night sketches are wonderful. Too bad we couldn't get a good look! Cheers!
I love youtube...So much talent in the world. These sketch books are amazing.
Really beautiful thanks for sharing. I have just started my first sketch journal and loving it. Looking forward to watching the rest of your videos. Isabel .(Melbourne Australia)
PLEASE, paint the house of home alone with watercolor.
Tank you for let us see your paint, i really enjoy see how we percibe the nature👍👍
I love the 100 day portrait challenge idea! I feel the same way about drawing people I know, lol. I may join you in that. I have a hard time working in sketchbooks because I always feel they have to be something finished. Having a sketchbook for a particular project, like portraits, would free me to use it. Love all of your sketchbook paintings!
So much talent! Now I look at my own paintings -- and I think -- Yuck!
8:57 is gorgeous.
Your sketchbook is so beautiful
It’s great to look back through sketchbooks. So many happy memories.
Patrick, the one page you mentioned was a copy of a famous artist's painting reminded me of a scene painted by John Hoar in a DVD I have.. Thanks so much for showing these books. I've been sketching like this for years, esp. when I travel and the books make for great memories and records of my travel. Like you, I can recall the day I painted a page and any story associated with the time. It does not appear that you are drawing first in pencil, correct? Also I don't recall seeing any that were ink and wash. All were quite loose which also forces one to simplify. Great practice and encouragement for all of us!
Thank you so much for showing us your work! Your presentation, looseness and use of colour is inspiring.
Love evert pages on this sketch book! It’s so priceless. Thanks for sharing. You inspire me.
wow! what an incredible sketchbook
Thank you for sharing your sketch books.
I have been wanting to get one.
This encourages me.
I loved looking at your sketch books. They made me feel more free about trying it on my own.
Very enjoy watching your watercolor painting on sketch book. They are all great! Love them! :-)
Amazing, so much talent! Loved the video
Love your sketchbook paintings!
