My very first race! I was 8 at the time. 10 years later, I've finally found this. Good memories. I was sitting at the bottom of the S curves not moving a muscle for the entire race. I just loved every minute of it!
Loved this race. This was vintage Jeff Gordon. Fastest in all 3 practices, broke track record (at the time) & dominated the race by leading a record number laps en route to the victory. And btw: that was awesome driving by Michael Waltrip. Came from a provisional to 4th by races' end. Not too bad for the worst driver in Nascar. lol Thanks for the post.
After Jimmie's Coca-Cola 600 dominance, this race was Jeff Gordon's ":Anything you can do, I can do better" response in a bit of Hendrick can you top this?
Even now a decade later after you made that comment, OP, that statement has become so true, to a point where some of the fans who grew up in the era of when Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon were winning all their cups have kind of petered off, and I don’t blame that at all.
Chip Ganassi really did have a banner day in this race. Three of his four cars finishing within the Top 7. Scott Pruett's car was amazing on the long runs.

Hell of a race, including moments such as; Klaus Graf booping the back of Rudd when he got it spun back around Scott Riggs hating road courses PJ Jones experiencing instant karma and Mayfield's car sprouting antlers.
36:38 I love how Mike Joy says that Scott Pruett drove a full season for Felix. Wrong. Scott attempted a full season of cup for Cal Wells and the #32 Tide Ford in 2000.
Just noticed something. In Dale Jr's post race interview, he's wearing a cars movie shirt. but the movie didn't come out until 2006 and this was in 2004. I'm confused on that.
3:50 Greg Biffle in the 11 with FedEx 🤯🤯 I'd put money that this kid Denny Hamlin might get a shot, I bet he could get a few Daytona 500's and championship runs.
if it does that bullshit where it just ends.. then wait for the audio to start then hit the replay button... should work...i've noticed several races doing this... i blame youtube...

One of my all time favorite Gordon wins. I had just completed 7th grade and enjoyed this great summer race.

Why did FOX change their broadcasts so much? The old commentary/graphics were SO much more entertaining

Apart from Jeff Gordon putting on a Clinic. This was a very underrated race.
Also was the first race I watched in full!

4:30 What Jeff Hammond says here just completely resonates over the past decade.
Interesting to listen to that reaction in this era, a brutally honest comment from an "old school" NASCAR stalwart.
@@HODIUSDUDE Think that is Why Jeff Hammond is not on any more. It has turned into Gimmick Racing.

I'm pretty sure the movie was in production starting in 1997
I was delayed a year, and in production for a long time.

Cj Buford he was a dominant sprint car driver, The Coach though he had the Next Tony Stewart for his own. Also Jason Leffler.
Denny should've drove the #11 Full Time in 2005

Love Fox entirely missing the command.
But you have to think the Smothers Brothers would've found it funny.
