Yes, you are right, in this video, I am just making a huge point to Americans that Yuca is not Yucca. NO one seems to hear. Thus the video. Thank you for explaining what I have always known. Its still a food source to many in the USA as well. Never have tasted it but a lot have said they love it. Hugs. Navajo Grandma

Thank you, Grandma. The middle eastern countries use ground black cherry kernals in their baking. Yes, it has cyanide, but the cyanide is destroyed (converted, whatever) by the baking process. I remember reading in an herbal decades ago that one of the native nations makes a drink out of ground peach pits ( also cyanide containing). The safety is in the processing, tho I wouldn't recommend this unless you have been properly trained. There are so many plants labeled incorrectly as poisonous, yet it's the pharmaceuticals that are destroying the health of America.

    • @NavajoGrandma

Your comment is full of wisdom and thank you for this. Pharmaceuticals are jut in it to addict and make money, period. Pretty sick. @@NavajoGrandma well what's sad is that big pharma has a lot of cures but they've figured out that instead of curing you it's better and more economic gain to slowly give you the medicine.... imagine that, charging you for something God gave us!!!!!.... I'm white ...I grew up in Phoenix AZ ....I want to study this stuff Grandma...how to heal the people...with God's blessing of course....the Bible talks about when He told the prophet to boil figs and apply it to the wound of the king so he could recover!!! See.... it's even in the Bible! 👏👏👏
I want to do this...make my own medicine and yeah barter or trade or sell the medicine, and if they have nothing but need it ....take it!!!
Let's see big pharma do that!!
I wish to do this because the system has become so gross that it's just sad.... meanwhile things/opportunities are all but drying up....I say let's waive good bye to the system that can barely take care of it's own citizens but what celebrity has just hooked up with whomever seems more important....we can even take care of our elderly, we can't take care of our children, we can't afford to provide for homeless but we CAN afford to bomb other countries 😠😠😠😡😡😡
May God bless you and please pray for this thing for me...thank you and may God enrich your life and your seed, and your seed's seed!

@@davidschmidt270 David, I seriously thought you went by Joseph. Am I wrong? I am amazed at what you are saying. Sorry if I am mixing you up. So with your desire to make this grid change and to do this medical herbal healing stuff, well the big pharma is shutting down everyone who is practicing this. Did you know that several of the heirloom companies with seeds had the Feds come and take everything and threatened many in Washington state and Oregon and some in Utah. I say what in H... is going on? I use to buy from some and now they are telling me they were threatened and they don't have the money to sue them or even to question them. Just silently go about what you desire. You need an herb garden and yes there are ways to share and trade. That is what is going to happen again soon having a bartering system because of prices going thru the roof. I use to have chickens and now the feds are saying "having chickens will cause illnesses, heart problems, diseases that are so fetching crazy. So now you see a lot of videos backfiring on these media lies. The feds want pure dependency on them more communistic and they are not winning but spreading. That is why I say we need to stand together and do for ourselves. They will not come to save you. Neither will the Navajo Nation. Our Pedophile Prez is sucking up to Biden and anyone who will give him money under the table. So anywho, make a herb garden, decide what you want to make and grow. There are herb books, I love the book called The Lost Herbs, She has pictures so you know what you are looking for, the longitude and latitude of where to find herbs, food, and foraging stuff. It takes preparations. It is also good to research how to use juniper, sage, yucca, etc that is pretty accessible there. Its quite an undertaking. But great idea. Navajo Grandma

Safeway the other night called the one I bought a Yucca. It looked more like your Yuca. No note on it about the cyanide. Peeled, sliced lengthwise and frozen next the round, sliced celery root now. Thank for defending the Yuca and the Yucca plant.
They make bread from the yuca plant in South America, I bet it's the potatoes growers that don't want to see these wonderful foods to market.
The are many health benefits to yuca, as I'm sure there is from the yucca plant.
Thank you for introducing the yucca plant to. I haven't tried and I would like to know where I can buy some in Florida
It is from the southwest, and I might just have to go on vacation and head west to find me some yucca.

Howdy all, I feel as you do Navajo/Dine Grandma, the yucca is a great plant. you are so correct. the soap from the root , food from the blooms and seeds and pods. tools from the stems/, the dried bloom stalk is good for fire starting. I have many on my property. years ago there was a shampoo called yucca dew . here in south Texas we have the Spanish dagger var. and sotol, a smaller less ridged var.. I do not as of yet use my plants for their resources but I like their appearance on the land. in the spring they bloom majestic stalks of white flowers along with our wild flowers and the cactus. what a show. I also have the native agave and lechuguilla here as well and it is a great plant also. salute to all yucca fans.

@@NavajoGrandma Thanks for the reply! I have been subscribed for a long time. My wife is Indigenous American and her DNA traces back to the ancient Hohokam people. When I brought her to the deserts of Arizona and New Mexico, she said she felt her whole being was at home again before we even did the DNA test, as if her ancestors or her blood knew where she belonged. I have since introduced her to her culture, learned some words with her in Navajo through the duolingo courses and learned how to utilize the wild plants of the desert. I have since fired pottery and learned to flint knap. These to me aren't old skills that are irrelevant to society, these are skills which let you be one with nature, not man vs nature. Agriculture and farming that we are doing with modern tools is what is killing this earth. If we were to use older technology we could undo what we started with industrialization. When you make arrowheads and pottery, you're ensuring your "waste" will be of the earth. When you use chemicals and plastics and use aluminum or other toxic metals to make knives, its very bad for your food and environment. I watch your videos to absorb as much as I can to pass on to my kids when I have them. Thank you so much for continuing to make content!

Dear Grandma, I too, have lived in Yucca Valley CA., the Yucca Plants in that area are beautiful. I agrree with you, that plant is sacred. In fact, the oldest pair of footwear found in the area was a pair of sandels that were made out of Yucca Fibers. I can assure everyone that those shoes were not imported from South America. I don't blame you for feeling strongly about this subject. Imagine the genius it took many people over such a long period of time to realize that this plant offered soap, offered fibers, offered itself to the people, in order to make their lives better. Anyway, I am glad that you feel strongly about the plants of the American Landscape. So thank you again for a great video and I know some things are important enough to speak up, loudly and clearly about. So, you go, girl.

Now the island that I'm on, one of the many islands of the Taino. the majority of the people here are are from African descent they have more African ethnic features and we speak Spanish but we still have some Taino words in the language.

Hello grandma. Love that you care about truth! There's a sufix in Kichwa for "hearsay." Yuca is very good food. Its our potato. Potatoes are poisonous if you eat the eyes which are bitter. That is why you learn from your elders, so you eat and live to tell about it. Honestly, the potato when first exported to Europe didn't catch on, because it was bitter. The buds had grown on the ship voyage and they rightly threw out the bitter food. We boil our yuca and after its soft, if you want, you can deep fry it. Our fry bread. Peel, boil, fry! Enjoy. Thank you for the new , important, word. I think I'll put it on the wall, for when someone tries to insult anyone. "What do they know?!" We who know you, know better.

@@NavajoGrandma definitely try it once just to experience it. There are lots of recipes that use it. The only one that I like is a recipe from Suriname called pom. Its the root grated and mixed with herbs, tomatoes and chicken then baked in the oven. It needs to look almost burnt to be good, the top sorta caramelized. It's a dish they serve at special occasions like birthday parties.
To be honest I'd never heard cassava called yuca so it definitely was informative to hear the differences and understand why some people confuse the 2 plants. I grew up in AZ so yucca has always been a plant I knew about, mostly as a garden plant but also I knew it was used as a resource and was a useful plant.

If you are talking about the Yuca, Navajo Grandma has no idea how to prepare it and I am so sorry. I have never seen it and I know some people have talked about it but I never have. Sorry Grandma is of no help. Navajo Grandma

Thank you so much for clarifying! The cassava root is sold at our international store and I was thinking it was the same thing. I am so glad I haven't spent my money! Yakoke!

Mari this video wasn’t about eating Yuca, it was the misunderstandings of both. Spelled similar, Sounded somewhat similar, but looked nothing the same. Somehow many confused the two and started spreading incorrect information about our Native American Yucca as being the same plant as Yuca. It was important for me to correct the misconception. Yes Kris, I goofed and took out all the many ways of using Yucca such as the flowers that are edible because the wind was so strong and blowing awful. I still don't have a microphone and that is my next goal. Thank you for commenting, grandma so appreciates your watching and learning and commenting. Love you. Navajo Grandma

Hello Navajo Grandma! You look just like my auntie by the way. Hope you had a nice mothers day (my birthday falls on mothers day most of the time). I wanted to chime in with the Yuca. I am of Taino decent (the natives that first found columbus lost at sea). To us Yuca is a sacred plant given to us by Yocahu (the supreme creator) and it was and still is a staple of our Taino peoples. It was grated and strained by sibukan (strainer) to cleanse the cyanide from the root and then prepared as a tortilla (frybread) and eaten. My grandma still made it this way and added vegetables and seafood (cod fish, or shrimp, or crab) on top of it. Basically an "indian" taco. We also boil it with other root vegetables and plantains and bananas adding sometimes salted cod fish with some olive oil. It's delicious! If you have ever bought the terra chips in the groceries you have eaten this yummy root as it is one of the root vegetables they use in their chips!

Felix, thank you for telling us all about your Yuca plant. It is highly confused here in America with our mother plant Yucca. That is the reason I had to make this. I have heard many here eat Yuca and amazing most of my subscribers eat this but never knew the difference. Navajo Grandma

@@NavajoGrandma I agree, the name us just one letter difference and can be confused unless you know what they look like. I'm glad you showed pictures so people don't start eating something they should be washing with and washing with something toxic, lol. Nice informative video. 👍🏼

I suppose so, I have never tried this. Oh I lied, yes, I am reminded, my Bizhi apparently made this and yes I remember like it was a little slippery and there was some jam type something. But it was really good. Hmm I hope I am describing this right. Oh well, I know I ate that stuff when I was little. Navajo Grandma

I grew up in So Utah and was introduced to yuca when I lived in So Florida. I have always wondered whether they were the same or similar plants. It would be fun to learn some of the uses of the yucca. I do love yuca fries with curry dip and boiled yuca with mojo sauce and a banana (something about the yuca, mojo, and banana together..mmm). Thanks for clarifying for me.

Glad you are familiar with both. Grandma could write a book oh how many uses for YUCCA there is, clothing, shoes, thread, food, rope, needles, basketry, there is so much more as I read from each tribe how they make use of the YUCCA. So culturally traditional. Navajo Grandma
