This is what people use to surround them selves with. They strived to be happy even though things were tough. Now we have it easy and we strive to be miserable.
Growing up in the sixties I had my Saturday night bath then I came downstairs to watch the Lawrence welk show as my mother set my hair in pipe curls! Just simple relaxing happy music to program the mind before sleeping! Healing and blessings to all this year of 2023 and beyond! 🌠🌠🌈
I saw Lawrence Welk live when the band played a show in Birmingham in the 1970s. We took my grandmother to see him. I had such a crush on Joey, the young blonde accordion player!
Super Musik!
On UA-cam, check out Whoopie John ( Hans ) Wilfahrt and his ( Concertina ) Orchestra. They recorded on Okeh from 1926-1929 ( and on 1939-41 reussues ) On Brunswick 1932-1934 & DECCA - 1934 up to Whoopie John's death in 1961. Here is an iconic coupling of tunes, recorded in 1938, that set the standards for polka and "oom-pah" bands. On UA-cam, look for the coupling of: "Helena Polka" and "Holzauction Schottische."
Lawerence grew up in a German speaking community in North Dakota. He never really spoke English until he was 21. He convinced his dad to buy him an accordion because he wanted to into music. He bought a $400 accordion which was essentially a $5,000 of today. After he paid it off from his dad, he went into msuic as you see today.
The original spelling of his German name was Welke. The Volga Germans were wheat farmers. You find their descendants today in wheat growing areas or were wheat growing areas like California's Central Valley.
I kid met Mr Welk and his band at the Allentown Fair like 6 decades ago. Boy Mr Welk was so nice as well as Myron. This was one of the 1st pieces I learned to play on the Hammond Organ (C3), and anytime folks were over, I had like 60 mins of playing as long as I could read the music it got played. Never got the gift of playing by ear. Oh such fun memories Thanks so much for bringing back the Welk show on You Tube. Pax+
My dad's destroyer was shelled into oblivion at the Third Naval Battle of Guadalcanal. He and some of the other survivors sang this to keep their spirits up. When picked up, Dad asked "Who won?" The coxswain of the LCVP replied "I dunno, but we're the guys picking you up." Then it was survivors leave and on to another ship as Gunnery Officer. That was about all he ever knew about it.
I play the accordion so I could see what was going on. Lawrence was mostly doing chord & rhythm support. The other two handled the melody lines and Myron did the melodic accompaniment.
Thanks for this video. My Dad, God rest him, tried to teach me to polka to this very song, but I had two left feet. But it was still fun and we had a lot of laughs. He was so patient. Still can't polka, but I can cook a mean TACO. That was something thing my Mom, God rest her, taught me and I tried to teach him. 😂😂😂. Memories are priceless, no? Be happy and safe everyone.🙏
Браво! Смотреть и слушать приятно! Муж учился ! Играл! И очень любил аккордион! Оставил два инструмента и мы подарили детям! Вы напомнили те былые времена когда муж исполнял различные произведения а я с удовольствием слушала! Спасибо!
As much as having to watch Lawrence Welk back in the day, I kind of miss him now. I miss shows like his, Ed Sullivan, HeeHaw, Barbara Mandrell, The Andy Williams Show, Perry Como, Dean Martin, et al. There's nothing like that on TV these days, just junk like "Reality TV" that's anything but reality. My parents would be shocked to read this!
Fond memories of listening to polka music on Sunday afternoons when I was a youngster back in Minnesnowta (KNUJ New Ulm, “the polka station of the nation.”)
Beer Barrel Polka", originally in Czech "Škoda lásky", also known as "The Barrel Polka", "Roll Out the Barrel", or "Rosamunde", is a 1927 polka composed by Czech musician Jaromír Vejvoda. Lyrics were added in 1934, subsequently gaining worldwide popularity during World War II. The original text was in Czech by Vasek Zeman. General Dwight D, Eisenhower allegedly said that this song helped Allies to win WW II. Even though Germans also sang this as Rosamunde song.
Back when there was real entertainment on every one of those 13 channels. Today, 280 out of 300 channels don't have one tenth of what they did back then. By the way, the other twenty channels today are reruns of those great times.
It seems to me that a lot of kids hated this show growing up. Thankfully, my husband and I were just the opposite, even though we grew up in two completely different states. We both enjoyed the Lawrence Welk Show as kids! Guess it just depended on how one was raised and their own personal likes and dislikes.
I worked for an airline in the early '80s. The town we were based in had 2 TV stations for 3 networks. Sundays Lawrence Welk was on between 6:00 - 7:00 pm. This was the hottest show in town. On the other channel was Hee Haw. I polkaed a lot.
Samstag Abend ging man tanzen.Blaskapelle spielte Walzer und Polkas Nun bin ich alt sagt der Kalender.Ich lege ein CD auf und tanze durch die Wohnung.Ein Tanzpartner ist willkommen.
Oh the memories of trying to dance polkas with my grandmother when I was young. She passed when I was only 7, but the memories I cherish 😊

I remember watching this show on TV when I was just a small boy at my grandparents, still like this 60 years later !!

I may be fourteen but I still like this song. it gives me good memories but they aren’t even related lol

I think I saw these guys when I was at Woodstock in '69 but my memory is a bit hazy.
What a wonderful story!
Danced many nights to this song oh what memories

His daughter married Bobby who started out on the Disney Mickey Mouse Club in the 50s.

A Los Angeles beer named Burgermeister (Burgie) used it for their commercial. They played it on the radio and TV for the baseball games.
Nope. It's American.
