That is a nice saw. I have a P41, here in England, which I purchased at a local auction. Spent a little time getting it going, but runs pretty well now. It didn't have felling spikes, and parts are not so easy to obtain, as you say. So I ended up making spikes for it, from a sheet of 2mm thick hardened steel. Nice to get these classic vintage saws going again.
Every once in awhile when I switch from my small Stihl to the Pioneer I'll rest the saw on my leg, and very briefly that muffler reminds me it's there. Lol.
Good job on the saw, you just can't beat the vintage chainsaw, their made of metal not so much plastic, little more weight but once on the log all you have to do is pull the trigger. Great video 👍
Really enjoyed this video, bought a new P40 for thinning contracts in '73, used a 28" bar to avoid bending over so far , would run it all day, it's a great saw!

Nice job. sir! Greetings from Bulgaria! I am a chainsaw collector, addicted to American and Canadian chainsaws. I have a P50 Pioneer, 82 ccs in my collection, almost untouched by time. About muffler mod and the chainbrake ....I wouldn"t do that. I keep my saws all original.
Great Saws! I'm missing the four bolts for starter cover - do you happen to know the thread and lengths? I can't seem to locate info anywhere. Thanks for the thorough video.
Good effort on the video very interesting! ive just aquired a p41 79sh 12/21 in amazing condition done very little work! for the bargain price of 40! english pounds! still pinching myself! they are a beast of a saw! got a excellent 20" bar/chain on it im gonna get a 28/30 see how it likes that? runs like a dream! for a 40 year old! blew carb de-baffled and de-governed running at 50.1 mineral but its worrying me? what mix do you run? and is it still goin strong?
Hey Vince, great video! nice job on the P41 :) I have on my channel a Pioneer 2043 from 1971 complete teardown/rebuild if you are interested in this. Cheers
I still have my Dad's P41. He bought it new. 24" bar is biggest I'll run on her anymore. Still has plenty of power. Nice reliable saws.
Yes it’s a nice old school saw. Tons of torque.
Excelllent sir. Another piece of Canadian history saved and brought back to life ! Alex
Awesome job! We used to have the P41 and a P28 when I was a kid. Used to do all the wood for winter. Brings back a lot of memories... Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed!

Right on! These older saw don't rev as high as newer saws but you can't beat their low end grunt!
Excellent and thorough job. Like to see the children helping and learning that's great good job.
Glad you enjoyed!
The side exit exhaust is so cool.
Yes, its a neat older machine. Many of them have the engine flat, laying front to back.

Yes, especially like the torque it has.
What a fun project, it's great how you show us every step. Keep the chainsaw video's coming!
Glad you enjoyed!

Very cool!
Can you further explain the porting you did. Did you adjust timing or just widen the intake and exhaust
I did not port it. Just opened up the muffler a little.
Great Saws! I'm missing the four bolts for starter cover - do you happen to know the thread and lengths? I can't seem to locate info anywhere. Thanks for the thorough video.
Its an 10/24 thread pitch x 3/4 inch for the 3 short ones. The long one is the same thread pitch and 2.5 to 3" long.
Does all that cleaning on the outside make the saw cut better? It is a saw and will get covered with sawdust within a few minutes of starting to cut!
Gives 3 extra HP :) I do it on any used saw I buy as its a good time to go over everything and see if there are any issues.
i have a question mine will not start on choke and will not run slowly. Do i need carb kit?
Could very well be.
Best ms170 upgrade! You obviously have never had a fire start from a muffler.
Not an issue where I am at and the cutting I do.
i just got one in garage sale like that, my carb jets have no markings , which one is high and which one is low? Great stuff
Just got a chance to look. The one closer to the ending is low, the one closer to the handle is high

I run 40:1. i had issues with the ignition and had to change out some parts but still going strong!
What do you use to clean everything?
Mostly just gas
@@VincesDIYs
Thank ya !
Does that work better than solvent or is gas always at hand ?
@@fredr6381 it’s at hand.... and cheap :)
