  • Known for her trademark hat, Minnie Pearl was an American country comedian who appeared at the Grand Ole Opry for more than 50 years (from 1940 to 1991) and on the television show Hee Haw from 1969 to 1991.
Minnie suffered a serious stroke in June 1991, bringing her performing career to an end. After the stroke, she resided in a Nashville nursing home, where she received frequent visits from country-music industry figures, including Chely Wright, Vince Gill, and Amy Grant. Her death on March 4, 1996, at the age of 83, was attributed to complications from another stroke. She is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee. She was a great influence on rural humorists like Jerry Clower, Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall, Carl Hurley, David L Cook, Chonda Pierce, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy. In 1992, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts. In 2002, she was ranked as number 14 on CMT's 40 Greatest Women in Country Music list.

Sad songs and happy songs help you to relate to others how you feel in a given circumstance.

We have so many hateful and mean people because it is tolerated. Let them know, whether family or friends that such conduct and speech will cause them to lose social association with us, then at least some of them will stop doing and saying bad things. Don't focus on those who won't be moved to stop. Focus on those who will stop.

This is an interview with Sarah Cannon. It’s nice to see her as herself. Minnie will always be loved.

" $1.98" That was the title of the Rip Taylor hosted beauty pageant parody "The $1.98 Beauty Show". Anyone here remember that?

I think the differences in country music singers has to do with politics and what they are allowed to say on air. Lucille Ball couldn't even say the word pregnant on tv.

Is there anything that comes out of this woman's mouth that isn't a gorgeously lyrical example of the spoken English language?

It's such a cool thing to see Minnie talk, but I wish that the interviewers would have allowed her to expound on any of the 50 points of wisdom she mentioned before they rushed her onto the next one.
