The MADNESS of BREXIT - Biggest Act of Self-Imposed Harm Ever

  • In the first quarter of this year the UK emerged from recession with growth of 0.6%. This was hailed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, #jeremyhunt as a huge triumph. In interviews he claimed that the UK was growing faster than any other country in the G7, that the UK is creating more jobs than any other country in Europe and attracting more inward investment than any other country in the world except the US and China.
The #oecd however forecast that the UK would have the lowest growth in the #g7 next year and the second lowest ahead of Germany this year.
In the meantime the #nhs , schools, the court, the police, local authorities, the prisons are all in crisis and 14 million people in the UK are living in poverty.
Every day further obstacles to trade with the EU are being erected as biometric checks are being introduced and goods coming into the country are having to be checked.
All of this adds no benefit whatsoever to the UK economy.

TBH, Britain, (the most troublesome member ever) did UE a great favour by leaving. They showed the world firstly, how stupid it was to leave a guaranteed, tariff free market for both goods and services. One of UE s 'cornerstones is peace between it's members. But Britain by order of "the idiot Bush", did exactly as General deGAULLE said they would, by putting American interests first. AGAIN ! It also strengthened the Bloc in all ways. The evidence does (I think) prove this, as while UE goes from strength to strength, Britain wallows in self induced chaos ! True for the greater part corrupt, sleazy, incompetent Governments have ruined Britain, but BREXIT as the catalyst !

I was over earlier in the year on business (in Crawley and also in Yeovil) and the level of social decay is absolutely striking. Whereas in both Portugal and Spain there is _constant improvement_ the UK seems to be in constant, and fast, decline.

My father (God rest his soul) always said to me, ‘son the Tories make the rich richer and the poor poorer’. How true this is. Sunak, Mogg, Hunt and many more have feathered their own nests by various measures: Austerity, Brexit, pensions, benefits. Sunak made a fortune during the bankers crash in 2008. Contracts, knighthoods, lords and baronesses for their mates. PPE fiasco was massive for their mates. Then they have the audacity to say that we need to pull our belts in while Liz Truss ruined many thousands lives by making rents and mortgages nearly double. How can a PM honestly know how it is to struggle when he and his wife are multi, multi millionaires? In my opinion, if you are a millionaire you should not be a PM or an MP.

I agree but also believe the woke Labourites are even worse. The way forward is to have a party that allows the people referendums on all major issues. Take a Consultant in the NHS and a bill about the NHS being debated by people who know almost zero about healthcare. Is it right he has only a choice of two parties which are at one on many issues? Where is the fairness and common sense in that? Whereas if the bill was put to a referendum knowledgeable and interested people could have their say and would make for a far better outcome.

Thank you Michael for this video. One of the most worrying aspects of all this is that once the current appalling government has been booted out, we'll get Starmer who apparently wants "to make Brexit work". This is a ludicrous position to take. It's not so far removed from those deluded Brexiteers who feel that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with Brexit, it's just been badly implemented. You just can't polish the proverbial item of waste matter no matter how many times you try. Last week Natalie Elphicke said that Starmer now "accepted Brexit" which apparently made it OK for this extreme right-wing migrant basher and Truss supporter to cross the floor. The last thing this country needs is a PM who doesn't have the honesty to admit that Brexit has caused and continues to cause immense damage to the nation, and should be reversed as soon as reasonably possible. We need a way out of this mess, not more of the same with some performative tinkering on the periphery.

06:15 - ""Almost impossible to export . . .". It's so frightening. Exporting is a natural extension of so many businesses. Our economy depends on it. "Damaging exports" is like "damaging trade". After all, trade, no matter how near or far, is what our society, even what "civilisation" is built on.
If it's not worthwhile "exporting", it might someday not be worthwhile having many kinds of "business". Brexit is a social, even a civilisational disaster.

He is a landlord with many properties. I cannot understand why Starma doesn’t come out and say that Brexit needs looking at again? Truss denies that she wrecked the economy and has been rewarded with a pension for life, plus the money earned with her speeches. It feels that I am living in a parallel universe where cheats, liars, fraudsters and greed prosper. Not one of these Tories have any scruples or decency.

‘Fixing Broken Britain’, by Alun Drake, looks like a very interesting read, thank you, Michael. I am sure it will have, contained somewhere between its covers, some reference to that amazingly perceptive quote by Jeremy Hunt, MP, and Chancellor of the Exchequer, in the Brexit Tory Party, which goes like this: ‘frictionless trade with the Member States of the EU, would be enormously beneficial to the economic prosperity of Britain’. Such an insightful and sensible recommendation. Oh! wait a minute! It’s what we once had - surprise, surprise! It was all thrown away by the delusional Brexiteers, and now we are left with this economic and bureaucratic shambles! Brexit broke Britain! Vote the Tories out of power!

"Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face" is the BEST way to describe the upheaval created by Brexit.
Back in late 2003 when I was in London as an international student a couple of Poles I met in the hotel I was staying in lauded the decision of EU inclusion(though it increased costs back home) as it gave them the right to travel and work freely in the EU and that time the UK too.
But even then Eurosceptics pointed to cheap foreign labor taking over British jobs and imported "lesser culture" when later buoyed by the likes of Nigel Farage gave them momentum to dissipate their wrong headed notions to invoke Brexit which I'd rightly predicted on the eve of June 2016 would cause the UK to implode(though I'd left back in 2005 but was able to discern what is happening) and now the nation has correctly and perceptibly "shot itself in the foot" and the right-wing is inciting going further down the rabbit hole by otherising foreigners.

Michael, I know you speak Italian fluently but you definitely CANNOT speak or understand Tory. Tory is a different language. Hell, it's a wholly different syntax. It requires neurolinguistic reprogramming to master it fully.
You mention that : the NHS is falling apart, waiting lists are at record lengths, schools are falling down, the justice system is seized up, there are record police shortages. Also there are medicine shortages, food supply chain issues, prisons are overflowing, living and rental costs have never been higher leading to record homelessness and rough sleeping, a breakdown in council services and filthy streets with uncollected garbage, rivers and lakes and beaches are full of doodoo, utility prices are stratospheric, and businesses are hamstrung by bureaucracy and high import costs due to a tanking pound. To which yes, yes, yes, yes and yes.
BUT, the important thing is that the RICH have never been richer. They are running out of new toys to buy to indulge themselves with. The rich get ever richer while everybody else, which will soon include the "middle" class gets ever poorer. Tory Nirvana. Things are for the BEST in the best possible of all Tory worlds. They serve the interests of a small number of people who are their masters and (hopefully) the providers of cosy directorships upon electoral kicking out time. So in Tory land, things are absolutely marvellous and only a curmudgeon can complain.
