    nDLC is Glocks using Nitride-with a Diamond Like Coating (aka DLC). Tenifer is simply the Trade mark name for a proprietary blend of the Nitride process. Melonite is another proprietary Nitride process too. Hope this helps some of you out in knowing what nDLC coating is. Also, should be noted that Tenifer, Melonite, Nitride goes on Clear and is a metal treatment and NOT a Coating or Plating. Nitride will adhere with the molecules of the metal at the substrate (outer most layer of metal) which allows a very hard case hardening, as well as lubricity. So if you have something that's Nitride and see color wear. The Nitride is still working. Usually manufactures will Nitride metal then Black Oxide over. Other companies will use DLC (Glock) on the FN FNS model, they use Nitride and then a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD)....PVD is very durable and similar to DLC.

    I recently bought the Gen 5 G17 FS. I really like the way they rounded the nose, the flared mag well, the finish, the front serrations, and the trigger. I do still like my Sig 229 better because I shoot it more accurately.

    When the glock 22 gen5 comes out in all gray I'm buying it. Shipping them with real night sights and no finger grooves takes care of my few glock concerns. Pretty minor but not sure how I would like the mag strip opening on front strap. My HK vp40 has slight openings on the side of the grip/frame, which are out of the way but still useful. Great video as always.

You can't find a more reliable Combat Grade Polymer Weapon. Nice Gen 5, but I don't need or like ambi anything, the new marksmen barrel seems ok. Nice review, both tabletop and range.

    Thanks for a detailed review in Parts 1 and 2. Don’t have many comments except two.
    1. The steel target support “ring” is irritating in combo with the paper target. Perhaps they need to tune it better :)
    2. The Blue bullets appeared to have a negative impact (sic). Certainly not something I’d like to try. That’s just me.

    Justin. I held and shot a 19 Gen 5. It shoots great. Downside is... I really wasn't impressed i guess because it didn't feel right in my hand. I'm spoiled with my finger groves. All and all i might revisit the Gen 5 in the future. Maybe if and when they come out with a full line of firearms. For now tho i believe i will stick with my Gen 4's and call it good. How do you keep the rounds from ricocheting when shooting steel?.I've seen others shoot them from within feet and could hear what sounding like bullets whizzing by...

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel 6 років тому +2

      Steel must be shot from a minimum of 10 yards with a handgun. And the target ideally should be at an angle that sends the lead spatter straight down. Even then, some fragments coming back to the shooter are possible - which is why good eye protection is crucial. Anyone shooting steel closer is risking serious injury.

    Is it traditional Land and Grove rifling ?

  • @brettkoski
    @brettkoski 7 років тому +1

    I was under the impression the Gen5 had a traditionally rifled (land and groove) barrel? Polygonal and Hexagonal mean the same thing (a hexagon is simply a 6 sided polygon). Glock website has the Gen4 listed as "hexagonal", and Gen5 listed as "hexagonal (gmb)". Is this some sort of hybrid polygonal/land and groove rifling I wonder? Or am I just missing something here?
    Thanks for the video!

    • @johnmorrison2226
      @johnmorrison2226 7 років тому +1

      The most knowledgeable people think the barrel is the "marking barrel" also known as the "Miami barrel". Essentially, it has extra features, similar to lands and grooves on each flat side of the polygon. This allows for easy forensic matching of bullets to the gun. This is important for law enforcement agencies that wants to account for bullets fired. However, it appears that these features are formed in the barrel bore when it is hammered into the polygonal shape, and not cut like traditional lands and grooves. The barrel has been used by several LE agencies and is used on the G42 and G43. The barrel crown is new.

    It shoots like a glock, which is a good thing. I only have one criticism of glock and it really is nit picking, but every since the introduction of the gen 4 glocks the ejection has not been what it was in the early 2000's and 1990's. They have fixed the brass to the face for the most part but the casings just don't fly out like they do on the cz's, sigs, and walthers. My early gen 3 glocks spits brass out at least 10 feet away. Nit picking-yes, real issue-no. It just kind of bugs me when shell casings hit me on the arm or on top of my head. On my list for next year are the gen5 19 fs and 34. Wishful thinking that they will make the 34 and 19 w/ front serrations in gen 5 configuration

      Put in a slightly weaker recoil spring and the brass (ejection) will be thrown farther. That being said, the gun will get beaten up more and smaller parts will subsequently fail sooner. There's always a trade off. As for the ejection pattern on the new 5th gen Glock's. It appears good enough.

    • @sapphir8
      @sapphir8 5 років тому +1

      Funny enough, I just picked up a CZ 75 Compact (I'm way more of an indoor range guy) and brass hits me all day. Must be bouncing off the side panels at an indoor range. I get hit in the head, face, wherever. My 3rd gen Glock 23? Nope. Granted one is significantly broken in more.

    I wouldn't recommend the Sig v crown for defensive ammo, it has a track record for not expanding through the IWBA protocols. I don't understand why either because the projectiles are supposed to be manufactured by Sierra which is a reputable company.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel

      I've seen those "results" and ignore them because what I've seen myself is much different. I don't do ballistics tests, but I also don't put blind faith in some of the ones done. Still, if it drives them to further improve the round - all the better! But I find it to be the most consistent and accurate round of those I've tried.

    Got a question for the community if you have not have a concealed weapons permit but it's in your bag in your car can you still get in trouble if you say you're going to the range? In the state of Georgia knowing it's a constitutional open carry state

    • @tailgunner66
      @tailgunner66 Рік тому

      You won't get in trouble if you're legal to carry with a permit. If you can pass the background check (the criteria of the BATFE 4473), you can carry in Georgia without a permit. Of course Constitutional Carry doesn't allow you to break the law so the activity of going to the range is perfectly legal.
