...amazing performance from this trio. Calvin's rhythmic clarity is stunning to me. His solos are beautiful. How have i never heard of Mr. Keys till today?! Will immediately listen to any albums i can find. Gotsta say that the drummer is superb. All three to be sure.
I just heard Calvin in an interview the other day on KCSM talking about the Memorial Tribute that was planned for Jeff Chambers in the name of a scholarship named for Chambers who passed away last year 2021 in May. "I'll Remember April" was played with Jeff on Bass. It was something beautiful...I'm here trying to find it to send it to someone special....The Tribute was being held at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA... Gloria Jean
As josephmiller44 has mentioned, Calvin Jays is from Omaha. My hometown too. I've seen him live in Omaha in the Old Market district downtown back in the early 90's at the Howard Street Tavern. He is a great guitarist. Thanks for this clip!
Just sayin', high praise. Without that tune, I would have most likely never run across the brilliant Mr. Keys. A tip of the cap from one of the most well renown guitarist in the world to another brilliant lesser known musician is not a bad thing. It helps us all dig deeper into the roots of the music we love to play, listen to and explore. Peace.
One of the best shows I've seen was Keys at Bach Dancing and Dynamite in Half Moon Bay a few Years ago. Funny...years before that, I walked into a downtown San Francisco hotel on 3rd, and Calvin was playing in the lounge as a solo... I lucked out. I was the only guy in there who knew what he as really getting.....I think the hotel has changed hands...
This man is so brilliant. Can you compare him to the guitar greats of the past ? Like... ok, I don't want to sound stupid, every guitarist is unique but, well, I just found him on UA-cam, never heard of him before and I wonder if he could successfully compete with... :)
Feb.6th: Happy birthday Jazz-Soul Jazz Guitarist Calvin Keys...I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. Keys at an album release party; spent time speaking with him and he was kind enough to autograph two of his albums for me../ keepin' that vinyl. Thank you and God bless. Thanks for the upload, doubledavemusic. Blessings
RIP Mr. Calvin Keys. Thanks for the sounds and the talent. 🕯👼

Pat Metheny has a tune on his Day Trip cd called Calvin's Keys, written in honor of him. If Pat writes a tune with you as it's namesake you can play!
calvin keys is great. i have his album "proceed with caution."
it's strange though, there's like absolutely no info on him online at all
thanks so much for posting this this and thanks to Calvin and the guys for the music. Man I really love the tone of that Heritage
