It's a sad, sad day. We will all miss the Red Ram.
You have one more option- pay a shop who has much better diagnostic equipment and more experience on this issue. If you try to sell or trade in the Ram now with a known problem, it will drop its value so much, you will likely be giving it away. If you put $300-500 into a high quality diagnosis to get it running correctly, your resale value will be much higher. Once corrected, then sell it while it is running good. Many times the price of diagnostics will add more than its cost to the vehicles resale value, especially when used cars are selling at such high prices lately. I have been in the HD truck repair for over 40 years, and I have had to admit a few times that I did not have the knowledge or equipment to diagnose every fault on a vehicle of mine, and needed to pay someone else for their skills. After all, you have saved a lot of money by doing almost every other repair and maintenance jobs on your vehicles, so you are still ahead of the game. Asking for help is not giving up.
Hey Dave. Have you ever thought of bringing it to a Garage that has seen almost all problems and false readings from testers? You are shooting from the hip and maybe it is time to let a seasoned mechanic look at it. Tell him what you have found and what you have done. See what he says. It can't hurt. Good luck Buddy.🍁👍👍
Dave that’s sad to see but I feel your pain. Don’t know if you remember but we both did our camshafts at about the same time. I just ended up spending $4,300 last week on rebuilding the transmission. I don’t know if I want to keep it because I have invested so much in it, or if I should sell it now while it is running well with no trouble codes. Sometimes being so handy can be frustrating. If I just had a well paying office job I could pay someone else to deal with this crap! At least doing this keeps me watching other talented people like yourself.
Good luck with the next vehicle. Im looking forward to seeing what you get. 😉
Hi fieromike, I also repaired the camshaft myself and we also wrote each other a lot. Sorry to hear about the transmission - a nightmare....
I'm always on the verge of selling the RAM too, but unfortunately I can't find a window of time when everything is in working order. Something is always...
@@mikeHD74 yes I remember!

I suppose the real hard part about selling the truck is finding an adequate replacement for the right price.
We will get a winner one of these days. 😉
@@fieromike1 What exactly is going on with Dave's RAM truck? Electrick? I can't figure it out. Maybe you can tell me?
Sorry to hear that Dave. I am a Ram owner myself. I have a 2018 Big Horn. They are good trucks. You will have certain issues with any make out there. I agree with the others, before you throw in the towel, " bite the bullet" and let a good Ram dealer diagnose the problem.Their computers are more advanced than the ones we can afford to purchase. If its something that you can fix, it still is way cheaper than the price of what these trucks are selling for these days. In the meantime, check out this gentleman's blog on You Tube....Dodge Ram " misfire at idle". His site is called Fixing Cars With 15th St. Automotive. I am rooting for you. GOOD LUCK.
This is the first time watching you that I feel slightly disappointed in your efforts. I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado and have had dozens of hair pullers and I kept on it. Don't give up! Keep going with the advice your getting and the Red Ram will live on!
Well that really sucks Dave, but at least this happened before you did all the other body repairs you were planning.
I'll echo the others who say it may be worthwhile to pay a shop to diagnose the problem. And of course, check your main grounds. If you do decide to part with it, you may want to think about getting a work van to replace it. The cost of trucks right now is absurd. I know, I gave up my beloved pickup three years ago. I got a car to replace it, because I couldn't afford a truck. Maybe a project truck? Old F150 or C10 square body truck might not be too expensive, especially if you find something in need of some MINOR repairs. I saw a few on Hemmings just yesterday, but my market and budget may be totally different from yours. Good luck whichever way you go, Dave. All the best to you, from another Dave.
If only money was no object eh, but we all live in the real world. Sacrifices will need to be made to get the vehicle I really want.
I know you hate to give in , I have been in business for over forty years and have maintained and repaired most of my equipment over those years but even I run into problems that I’ve not been able to over come and finally had to send them to a shop that had more experience and tools than I . Good luck on what ever path you take .
Shawn
Thanks Rusty. It does break my heart, but I know when I'm beat.
@@ScottRods just curious have you check your grounds, body to engine and engine wiring harness . With your driving lights flashing sporadically and being on a different wiring harness it could be a bad main ground . My diagnostic equipment can tell me all sorts of good info and the result , but can’t tell me if I have a wiring problem or find it . Wiring issues are the worst to deal with .
Hot rods are much easier..lol
Love the sad part !
This was a while ago, I can't even remember what happened next, lol.
Went back over previous videos and it seems like the original problem was never solved and adding parts only created more codes. Still believe it's an electrical problem not mechanical . With a mechanical breakdown it doesn't go away and return it stays broken. There's an electrical glitch be a ground , harness or sensor . Then again a replacement vechical will repair it. Your choice Dave gd luck
Use the function of grapich display of missfire on your diagnose instrument when you dirive. Then you can see how the missfire behaves.
Yep, that is the decision I would make as well
I'm guessing it might be a ground wire your front running lights were blinking really funny when you pulled back into the driveway had a 5.3 Chevrolet Suburban 2000 had a ground wire to the rear passenger head on the engine truck would shut off then start back up later shut off start back up later eventually it got so bad the truck shut off and didn't start did UA-cam search said it was that wire fix that wire run perfect but it was given all kinds of weird lights and service lights just my guess one of the ground wires.
Thanks Butch, but I have LED bulbs which look like they flicker on camera.
Time for you to take your truck in to the garage and have them find out what the problem is.
Sorry for your loss. Im sorry but i had so many emotions on that video lol i laughed at your failure because i have been there lol and saddened at the loss of what looks like a good vehicle best of luck to ya man.
Thanks Brian. It's a tough one. We've had a LOT of good times in that truck.
Have you considered contacting one of the other UA-camrs like South Main Auto who is an absolute wizz when it comes to diagnosis . Just an idea .
Well that sucks, especially after all that work.
It's homework time to find a replacement vehicle
Hello Dave, please excuse , my English is not very good. What exactly is wrong with your RAM? If you give up something serious must have happened. I have also disassembled my Hemi and installed a new camshaft and I have nowhere near your experience, but I got the RAM running again, thanks to your tips and those of Fieromike!
Nooooooooooooo
When can we uncross our fingers???
I guess you can do that now, but thanks for trying.
Say good by and buy a chevy
I HAVE a Chevy, lol
